It's that time where everyone is SUPER friendly with each other in the comment section! We have a brand new poll up and we really like the variety we have on this one. These are some series that we have really liked the look of but have not gotten a chance to watch just yet. These are all highly requested series both on Patreon and on Youtube. If your suggestions are not in these options, don't worry because there'll be plenty more opportunities later on. The winner of this poll will be taking the Legend of Korra time slot. To add to this though, this point runs under the same logical premise as the video game violence premise which has been studied rather extensively and to this day has not been able to show causation between video game violence to real life persuasion. It runs under the same premise that liking a game like GTA is tied directly to reasonable assumptions about your character in real life. If positive portrayal of morally reprehensible actions showed strong correlation of normalization or adoption in society, the studies actively researching this field and pushing for laws against such things would have shown at least some semblance of success within the past decade plus of the push from this field. In terms of killing being worse than rape, I would say to each their own, but I do think my view on this is rather sound as it is shown in a majority of country's laws that by a majority will priotize the former charge much higher than the latter, there is a reason to it whether a person agrees with that or not.

The problem with content portraying social/morally reprehensible acts in a positive light is twofold. 1. We judge each other based on our decision-making and what we enjoy. If you regularly consume immoral content, it is entirely reasonable for people to make character judgments based on that. If I enjoyed watching terrorist beheading videos every day, my good friends better be damn concerned. 2. Before and ignoring point 1.. Positive portrayals of morally reprehensible acts normalize them. I hate to generalize and condemn an entire culture, but damn, look at Japanese entertainment... anyway. A moral actor in a society is entirely justified to be outraged and actively seek the prohibition of normalizing immorality. You surely must see this? ESPECIALLY WHEN THOSE ACTS ARE EXPLICITY PREDATORY. (I'm purposefully not going to address you acting like killing someone is a worse act than statutory rape. Logic fully died there.) Now, I'm not saying you can never portray such acts. As long as you do so responsibly. I think MT does a decent job of portraying Rudeus' degeneracy negatively or showing the acceptance of the world he's found himself in as negative.(like damn the nobles literally have children sex slaves) But I think it's fair to disagree, and many scenes in MT made me uncomfortable enough to fast forward. Not everyone understands that you aren't supposed to self-insert as the protagonist in every story and that character/world-building in fiction doesn't always mean "the ideal world". Wait until those people find out about GoT or Warhammer 40k.

No hate on them, though. Not everyone can enjoy certain genre. But i think some magical girl show is really good and would be worth reacting to. Like Madoka Magica or Lyrical Nanoha. Very entertaining. It's pretty far behind Mushoku Tensei in terms of interesting discussions to have about it but it's funny. Not an unforgettable anime like MT (trust me, you can't forget MT haha), but the quality, the jokes and the visuals are really good. A good anime to pass the time or when you want to laugh. Great voice actors too.

Where in MDUD the MC was wholesome and respectful in intent. I think people misunderstand a lot of early MT, scenes that aren't supposed to be fan service interpreted as such. But whatever Rudy *is* an absolute degenerate so who knows how they'll react. I like deeply flawed characters so maybe Im the sicko. I also enjoyed Game of thrones and every other character is a pedo or sister lover.

Now, im not saying that the problematic scenes in MT and MDUD are the same, so being fine with MDUD doesnt mean that you will be fine with MT, all im saying is that the outraged people are usually wrong (unless you only pretended to be fine with MDUD and would rather not have watched it, then you will certainly have problems with MT as well).

Justifying Rudy's behavior because he's physically 14 is obviously wrong but every time stuff happens the show presents it in the most uncomfortable and negative way possible. People would not have as much of an issue with the show if it did treat that stuff lightly. A good counter example is Oshi no Ko: a show in which a 30 some year old doctor reincarnates and then uses his advanced knowledge and experience in order to get onto a dating show and manipulate 16 year olds into romantic encounters with him so he can emotionally manipulate them into furthering his goals of revenge. Imo it's equally disgusting but people don't raise a big stink about it because it's downplayed so heavily by the show. I don't see the same thing happening in Mushoku Tensei; nearly every scene in that vein is presented in the most negative, creepy light possible. Mushoku's message from a literary standpoint is that "bad" people are capable of learning, changing, and improving if given the chance, the right support system, and a second chance. In order to demonstrate that though, the main character has to be a "bad" person and the kind of person who willingly does things like SA in order for them to demonstrate change and growth during their "second chance" and that they improve willingly (by existing in world in which it would be easy for them to continue to be an awful person). That is, to demonstrate in a realistic way a person changing from someone who willing does SA to someone who doesn't, the character has to do SA at the start and then be presented with the option later and refuse. It's possible you disagree with the core message that criminals are capable of rehabilitation but that's a disagreement with the core philosophy of the show and not about it "glorifying" or "treating lightly" SA. The reason those moments are so uncomfortable are because the main character is doing bad things and they are presented accordingly and appropriately and the reason it gets better later is because the character has changed for the better (the main theme of the show).

MT does none of that, it uses SA as form of entertainment (which it fails to do bcs surprise surprise no one enjoys SA material) it jokes about it treats it lightly and not in a way to coitize it or even invites the viewer to "think about it in a deeper way" as some of you tried to sell it as. the mc gets rewarded and the show tries to push him down our throats that we somehow supposed to like him or feel sorry for him. i noticed a lot of you try to dismiss those of us who don't want to see it win as intellectually inferior or that we're childish (over a pdf show over all things lmaoooo) when in reality you guys refuse to describe the show you're recommending for what it really is. if there is nothing really wrong with it defend it instead of saying "well the direction is great, the music is great, the animation is AMAZING just ignore those uncomfy moments it gets better later" please explain those uncomfy moments and explain when and how does it get better isntead of beating around the bush and lying about the mc's age (legit saw someone who WATCHED THE SHOW go "nuh uh hes 14 hes not a pedo :/" like????? if you're so knowledgeable about isekais you know damn well that man is in his 40's

People that take entertainment from going on mass killing sprees in GTA for example, show zero causation with translating anything from that to real life. You can be completely comfortable and fine with fiction that would be morally reprehensible irl while having zero connection to enjoying that in a real life setting. Killing is arguably worse yet for many shows its just this silly thing and none of these come under scrutiny but suddenly with the topics you're mentioning the logic is different? It's perfectly normal to have different preferences, and if MT is not to yours, that is also normal. What isn't normal is judging people's real life disposition based on their preference that differs from yours for the above reasons.

Is it a show for Carlie and Ange? I'm not sure myself, very heavy watch in some aspects (not just the sexual stuff) even for someone who have seen a ton of animes but rewarding for people who are open minded in the long run. Not my favorite show of all time but definetly worth watching if you are an anime fan (when you have already watch a lot of stuff and want to try something different for exemple) at some point.

I think if they Left out his back story it would stop people like you from hating the show blindly but also take alot of depth away from some of his character choices and development later on. And I don't think i makes sense to say that he was a pedo to begin with. He was a shut in with no actual connections to anyone outside his home due to a traumatic experience. He never was a pedo in his first life and after being reborn he strives to be a better person than he was before including with how he tries to connect with the people around him. If you didn't get that far in to know that you probably didn't watch more than 1 episode. I think the first like 5 episodes are heavily saturated with memories of his past life so you're drawing too much connection to the world that he literally died in and not acknowledging that he was reborn.

Konosuba - isekai pure comedy Classroom of the Elite - psychological thriller, all about manipulation and competition among the students. Windbreaker - more on school fights. If you watched Tokyo Revengers then it's similar but I like the animation of Windbreaker more. That said, without spoiling, there ARE GOING TO BE MOMENTS WHERE YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE WATCHING WHAT IS HAPPENING ON SCREEN. The thing is, you’re SUPPOSED to. I think you guys are mature enough to understand the show and condemn the actions that a certain character is doing without immediately writing the show off. At the end of the day, I think it’s important to remember the context the show/manga was created in and who it’s about. It is HEAVILY influenced by JAPANESE culture and world-views so it touches on things that you would NEVER see a western show attempt to tackle. Sorry for my rant, but, Mushoku Tensei is 100% worth watching… especially just to experience the first season. It’s a masterpiece. You’ll note that HIGHLY respected anime reactors have reacted to it and have had very nuanced conversations about the characters and their decisions. Rant over.

Ainz (literal genocide), denji (degen in every way possible), jinx (crazed murderer made to be charismatic), sukuna (again murderer portrayed as charismatic and likeable). These are just a few examples but its literally most anime unless you're watching slice of life where there is meant to be a sort of family element to it where you are meant to be able to watch it with the whole family and the kids are able to take away some aspects of morality from it. In most cases though, there are so many aspects of things that are not morally acceptable and yet they aren't deemed problematic, and for good reason. It's because as adults, we should be able to separate fiction from reality and understand that we should never be using a show as a reference for our moral standards. That being said, I can understand if the main character in MT is unlikeable to you, I think that take is perfectly fine, however I don't think the issue is specifically a pd issue like you're saying as this logic is not consistent with the above. I think it just plays a part into the unlikeability for your specific preferences. It's a bit of a stretch to try to make any sort of moral implication on the audience of the show past that imo.

The difference is that when you are able to separate fiction from reality, you can take the absurdity for what it is, and view it as just that, absurdity in fictional entertainment. In no way should there be the expectation of moral imprinting from a fictional non-educational show. Also, on the topic of glorifying, it is common for anime to glorify things like violence, fighting, and killing. The reason this is generally not talked about is because again, it is understood that it's fictional, but for some reason specifically your issue is where the line is even though these things are arguably worse

I think so many people stay with the superficial and apparent aspects of the history. And for me it’s one of my favorites anime alongside re zero and one of the best isekai. Btw: just for my personal opinion, I don’t really like mashle, it’s very hard for me get bored for an anime but I found mashle very boring and unoriginal in many of his characters and history, and make me drop the show in the 2nd season. I really think the best 2 options are mushoku and konosuba, remarkable and very good anime’s. It’s sad that so many people are voting for mashle just to don’t let win mushoku.

Yes. For both these reasons, it's hard to recommend to anyone because you just don't know what people will bounce off of. If you can roll your eyes at the MC and watch the show, it's rewarding and there's character growth (not enough in my opinion, but that's just my opinion). If you can't make it even a couple episodes in, perfectly understandable.

No hate on Mushoku Tensei since I was one of the people who read and watched it, but, there is a lot of good isekai stories out there and MT is not one of them. Ill admit that the first half of the story is good, and a lot of people can forgive that the MC is a bit of a creep since they manage to set the premise and objective of the story from the start, and MC is determined on finishing this goal. The rest of the show just fell apart with 30% being the story and 70% showing MC with his uncouth behavior. Still its a good watch to pass some time, besides there are also a lot of memorable moments and good characters on this show, you just need to keep an open mind about it. I wish Classroom of the Elite win, but based on the poll it seems impossible, but I can accept everything on the list winning.

Semi-spoilers: The human portions are pretty boring and subpar, but everything else is great and really cool) - I'm In love with the villainess (reading the manga and soon the LN. I enjoy the story a lot. The anime suffers a bit some episodes from bare-minimum animation syndrome though sadly)

He's the same age in that world as the other characters involved. He still has his memories from the old world which is a reoccurring thing in all isekai and the reason he still views his internal self depiction as an fat slob of a man is because of the god who brought him into the world using that as a way to torment him upon their meetings. Later on he completely leaves behind his old life and you only see that depiction of him in front of that god.

2025-02-20 23:41:35 +0000 UTCAs someone who's seen about 17 episodes of Mushoku Tensei, I think there's some misinformation surrounding the MC. Without getting into heavy spoilers, he's a lustful guy that essentially gets a restart on life. There are many good moments, but there are many scenes that are quite uncomfortable or jarring to the average viewer. Some pretty heavy degenerate shit, stuff that I'm a little confused as to why it took the route that it did. It is a bit weird and I ultimately dropped the show because of it (going to likely pick it back up), and not because the anime is bad, but because I just don't think it's for everyone. If you firmly believe that the MC is off putting and a creep, then nothing will change your mind about him if you watch it in it's entirety. I think generally people need to take a step back and realize that you can dislike things about a character and still care about watching the characters and the rest of the show grow.

Imo the reason people have such a strong reaction to Mushoku is because it DOESN'T downplay the pedo stuff. It portrays it exactly like it is: creepy and weird. Oshi no Ko does a lot to downplay the weird parts of the reincarnation like the voice actor switching to different one post reincarnation and skipping straight to age 16 instead of lingering in the even more suspect years while Mushoku keeps the internal dialog in the older VA and accentuates how weird it is by focusing on the age where it is especially obvious how creepy it is. Mushoku does everything short of directly stating that it condemns the actions of the MC, especially in the first few episodes.

It's clearly a show when the mangaka reflects himself as the mc and fulfills his darkest desires. Literally. The world building is one of the best tho, as an isekai is one of the most aclamated. If you're able to watch a show entirely hating the mc you're fine. Konosuba on the other hand is an isekai based on pure comedy, a parody of every other isekai which have the same sinopsis almost always. It's a cummer show too, if you know what i mean: lots of waifus, big boobs everywere, asses etc. I've enjoyed that show more than the others just for the comedy.

The shows would not be huge in the West if that were the case. People call Made In Abyss and Mushoku Tensei problematic mostly due to child nudity on rare occasions and mention of genitalia. (Edit: The hilarious thing is, Ange loves Dragonball, which frequently SHOWS kid Goku/Gohan's penis', as well as OG Dragonball which has Goku slapping Bulma's genitals, having Roshi see her exposed on the island, and so on. I doubt the two of you will care about the very rare "discomforting" scenes the 2 shows mentioned have to offer <3)
