My Hero 5x1 FULL REACTION!

Animation / budget it does (and of course it would, look how much the industry has changed between movie 2 and 4) but IMO: (spoilers for others) the story content, how it ties to the main storyline so directly, and is essentially the original intended ending make it still the best MHA movie to me.

My only issue with season 5 is that the pacing does drag a bit, but it also has a lot to build up to the next season. Still, it never made the series less enjoyable to me.

Funny how Endeavor hates the school motto, but he really embodies "Plus Ultra" (sometimes to an unhealthy degree). Man gave himself 0 points for the Nomu fight xD Compared to a lot of covid seasons(like Haikyuu S4 xD), Bones didn't do that bad on the animation. I actually think that the worst part of this season is the production team's decision to condense and move MVA, just so they can cram a movie-promo episode in. But I think the content won't be too bad for anime-only watchers, so they'll prbly only experience pacing issues and padding.

This episode was a good refresher for the class I think. Showing how much better they've gotten themselves and at working together. It's back to the grind of school and trying to become a hero. Which I like.

Might be kind of hard to do with everyone constantly mentioning it, but try not to get too in your heads about season 5's quality. Honestly, you both already pretty much nailed it - season 5 is the COVID season. It'll still have moments of peak animation, really compelling character moments, etc. Basically, everything you've come to expect from MHA, but it's going to be in the context of the animation team occasionally having to make sacrifices to accommodate the more restricted production resulting from COVID. So, there will also be more padding/flashbacks than you're used to and, as the season goes on, more times when the animation isn't up to the usual standard. If you can roll with both of those, you'll probably end up enjoying this season just fine.

I think the MVP should be Hado; she got Amajiki in gear, and took her role as villain seriously, bringing out the best (and the crativity) of class 1-A.

Season 5 in the anime (those chapters week to week) were the slowest part of the whole story. Not great pacing. Anime definity fixes most of those problems, but the source material isnt that great. Then one of the greatest arcs in the manga gets condensed into like 5 episodes near the end of the season, which I thought was a disservice. I could definitely see why people think season 5 isnt great, and I do think its the weakest overall. Season 6 and 7 are Hype and the upcoming season will be hype as well though!

COVID started during season 4, but season 5 really is the COVID season. That said, COVID didn't really have anything to do with season 5's problems. The COVID delays mostly affected the Nomu vs Endeavor fight, which was fine because the episode itself was amazing. Horikoshi struggled with his own mental health after writing the Overhaul arc. The chapters adapted in the first arc of s5 are pretty short and there was a lot of weeks off in an otherwise weekly release manga. The anime, sticking to its usual 2-3 chapters per episode style, didn't have as much to work with for the first half of season 5. The content that is there is pretty good though. There's one episode I often come back to in this arc. The whole season gets back to normal form after the first arc.

As Ange already said its more of a buildup season. But its still a good season in my opinion not as good as season 3 and 4 but still very enjoyable. Didnt rewatched this season very often but happy to see it with you once again.
