2025-02-17 09:29:55 +0000 UTCI’d like to add this about Sanji here. Sanji is kind but he is not nice to guys. Some examples include Alabasta where he berates Usopp for being defeated by Mr 2 but brings him back his goggles. Another is in Skypeia where he has Usopp come with him to rescue Nami. Usopp was helpful in getting up there and he did say he would sacrifice Usopp but if he left Usopp on the Merry, Usopp would have been alone and too far away for him to protect. Sanji saying he doesn’t care about Usopp being a sacrifice is an example of him not being nice, but him helping Nami and Usopp escape Enel by sacrificing himself was him being kind. He and Zoro bicker a lot, and Sanji does sometimes kick Luffy but he shows how much he cares that Luffy doesn’t say the wrong thing by kicking him here. And I one hundred percent believe that he would be there for Zoro whenever he is needed. There are many examples of this even past this episode that some people see and think Sanji is being mean or only doing things for the ladies but that is not true. Just remember that Sanji’s love language comes from the bickering on the Baratie.

I love that its the first big fight but you can see how it has indeed been building up for Usopp culminating with him feeling useless losing the money and then also finding Luffy seemingly cavalier about leaving behind the Merry. Zoro is the best vice captain, always solidifying Luffy when he's faltering.

I understand Usopp. He isn’t a powerhouse like the monster trio, nor does he have a specialized role like Chopper as the doctor or Nami as the navigator. bro is not even as strong as the newest member, Robin. In his eyes, his only real contribution is the Going Merry :( He poured everything into maintaining the ship, yet despite his efforts, the Merry continued to deteriorate. If the ship is now broken and useless, and his only usefulness was tied to the ship, then what use is Usopp? The crew sees Merry as an essential part of their journey, but now that it’s no longer functional, they’re prepared to let it go. Won't the same happen to Usopp? He couldn’t even protect their money, let alone recover it once it was stolen. Once the Merry gone, won’t the crew realize he’s just as expendable? It's so well and intentionally written that I never not cry rewatching this scene. good reaction guys! I’m happy I could see ange crying at least once in my lifetime😂

At this point in the we are invested enough in the story that these interactions hit much harder. This also means that if you ever revisit some older episodes, they're going to hit even harder! Sanji's backstory makes me cry every single time

2025-02-15 18:13:35 +0000 UTCsuch an underrated bond in this series is sanji's love for usopp like he truly treats usopp as a little brother. noticed it from when he took back usopps goggles from bon clay to this, he has always acknowledged usopp's role and credited him. and he understands the gravity of luffy's words when he almost tells usopp to get off the ship. he's my goat...also nami being disappointed with luffy bc she trusted the crew would never break apart...just sad all around and such an insane character moment for both luffy and usopp

His most cherished friends and those he regards as family all share this sort of relationship where they continuously fight amongst each other yet deep down there's no doubt they would risk anything for each other if it comes to it. Sanji is a far more complex character than most people give him credit for. My all time favorite Straw Hat! Btw - looking forward to all the tears to come. This arc is just really the beginning of One Piece :)
