Soul searching and understanding that he was wrong is one thing, but actually making reparations and learning to do better is something else entirely. I kinda hope he does, but if that happens, he's gonna have to do a LOT more than just have an internal monologue and fight a villain. For what it's worth though, this was a cool fight

2025-02-13 23:56:40 +0000 UTCahh, i see what you’re saying. i think the stakes are intentional given how strictly the story is told from the perspective of the kids. the whole point is that the world they’re preparing for isn’t the world that will exist when they’re finally in a position to participate in it. the goal post is constantly moving at the same pace they grow. in some ways, the stakes of the tournament do reflect the stakes of the world more broadly due to the era of peace they’re living in. not only that, but for the kids this is the highest stakes moment they’ve ever participated in which is why deku literally mutilates his own body to (try to) win. and while the adults say with their words that he shouldn’t do that, he is only rewarded for this behavior in practice as the teachers know what can be asked of them even as they scramble to understand the quickly shifting landscape. idk, this idea of kids being sold a false picture of the world they’re preparing for is something i think this show does a great job of and i see it here. but also understand that, given the hype of the moment, it feels a little out of place in such a controlled setting.

To me, All-Might is just one of the best anime/manga characters ever created. He touches my heart like not many can. So of course him vs AFO is one of my favorite moments ever.

Deku v Shoto is objectively the lowest stakes fight of the big fights until now, so understandably I rate it the lowest. As for All Might v AFO, agree to disagree I guess. I don’t know when it should have been but it definitely felt too early for me. AFO had barely any time to build up, and All Might’s also had to retire too early. I think it would have been possible to start developing Endevour before All Might’s retired. His growth doesn’t have to be tied to All Might’s retirement

The music and animation were peak, and the characterization of Endeavor was top notch.MHA is probably the only shounen title that has multiple fights that manage to make me tear up. Endeavor sees a bit of the monster in himself in the Nomu--hungry to prove its strength and its collection of multiple quirks ( Endeavor's whole purpose of having a quirk marriage was to create a baby with multiple quirks that will overcome his own shortcoming of not being able to physically withstand overheating). If All Might is the Superman of this verse, Endeavor might be the Batman, less-celebrated and not as physically powerful. This is the ep where we learn that Hawks has always been an Endeavor fanboy at heart ever since he's little xD, baby Hawks' cuteness always gets me.

2025-02-13 07:03:39 +0000 UTCSo for me this episode and all the season its my favorite alongside season 7, idk why the people they didnt like the part of gentle and the festival, when its necessary for the develop of the history, and some characters and give a breathe after the epic fights, this episode and all the meaning, the animation, the parallels and of course this insane soundtrack of endeavor. it makes one of the best episodes of my hero. For me endeavor and his family its the best plot of all the series and always make you so emotional and i always cry when i see them. Love the reaction guys and love you both. Cant wait the reaction of the nexts seasons and if u think this episode its the best of all the series, u will be suprised that even more episodes can be more PEAK than this one.

I believe it is one of those cases where it suffered a lot from being a weekly episode. The slower parts turned a lot of people off. But if you binge it, the peaks work so much better.

In the grand scheme of all the hype moments in MHA, the first Deku v Shoto fight wasn't all that hype imo. And in season 3 All Might v AFO happened a little too early in the story imo which made it feel a bit anticlimactic to me. This fight however was perfect for this point in the story. It's high stakes but it doesn't spoil the momentum for the rest of the story. Instead it actually sets up for future arcs. I am curious to hear your thoughts on season 5. I actually think it is more similar to seasons 2 and 3, and I think 4 is better than them all. But that's a personal take. Looking forward to your thoughts

One Piece also suddenly started improving its animation around this time. It's unfortunate for MHA, they were still animating like it was the early 2010s, so it looked unimpressive by comparison.

2025-02-12 23:59:05 +0000 UTCthis ep is absolutely goated. and yes, people that say this season (or next season) aren’t good are just insane. though, season 6 is just pure hype. 🙃 my absolute favorite part of this episode is how they capture all of the intense, complex, and even paradoxical emotions that the todoroki family is experiencing during the fight. watching a man that has objectively treated them all horrifically being cheered on by the public who has no clue what kind of man he really is and having to confront that it’s still right for them to do so. that he is that horrible person and also a real hero AND they’re father and husband who, no matter what, they can’t help but still have love for and not want to see him die. the way we see shoto standing there stunned as he wrestles with these feelings and finally resolving to seek reconciliation with his dad in spirit by honoring endeavors request to watch him. ugh, it’s just all so good.

I am an advocate for season 5, sure it is a bit slower paced, but for character growth, world building and a few unbelievable moments I say it is still a very good season overall. It just gets overshadowed by the greatness of the other seasons.

How insanely flawed he is, but also recognizing those dark, dark flaws inside of himself and learning to overcome them is my favorite aspect of this series. Endeavor is someone who let his obsessiveness and drive take over him and he made horrible decisions that led to the destruction of his family. Horikoshi really struck gold when writing this character, I think. Him seeing himself in the Nomu is my favorite part of the episode, by far. Because it really is what he was, boiled down to it's core. He was obsessed with strength to the point of destroying everything. Endeavor will continue to be the best part of the show for yall, I can already see it.

Reminder that the when the movie was release in Japan is was in line with the manga's timeline, not the anime's. I remember back then all the MHA subreddit posts warning anime onlys NOT TO WATCH THE MOVIE YET. We should not encourage them to compromise the quality of their season 5 reactions. 2025-02-12 18:04:12 +0000 UTCFirst time this aired, when the smoke cleared and Endeavor was standing there with his fist raised I literally jumped off my couch with a "HELL YEAH!!!!" I hadn't even realized I'd been holding my breath, which surprised me because I'd never had such a visceral response to an anime fight, regardless how epically scaled. Maybe it's because I'm older and a parent myself, but the Todoroki family storyline was always my favourite aspect of this whole series. I just find it a more realistic portrayal of how emotional and complicated such a dysfunctional family dynamic can be. There are no easy solutions. There is no "I'm sorry" and everyone's magically healed from their trauma. Endeavor abused his wife and kids. There's no sugar-coating that. They are rightfully still afraid of him, and the series doesn't give him a free pass on that. It holds him accountable and goes "Sometimes there's just no going back. Deal with it.". He himself is committed to doing/being better now, regardless whether it'll ever absolve him or win back his family, because right now that's all he can do. He is ashamed of who he used to be, and how he hurt his family. He knows he can't be forgiven, but he can still be BETTER (as a father/hero/person) than his past self. The following seasons explore more of the Todoroki family and it's so fascinating!

Ngl I think Hawks is mvp for the last episode. Then endeavor here. In the aftermath of last episode, he doesnt seems like it. But after this episode, it changed my whole idea about Hawks. He essentially goaded/trick Endeavor into becoming the leader they needed in hindsight and gave him the perfect speech into this episode and led him (even by accident) to Nomu. Endeavor took the push, but Hawks def pushed him to where he needed to be. I also like Hawks is prob the ultimate all-rounder. Kinda a hybrid of Lida, Ochaco, and Momo. He is not a no1 type of hero, but he can lead like momo/Lida, he is fast like Lida, and he is basically the rescue hero like Ochaco wants to be and he can fight as seen by how fast he beats the Beta Nomu that was beating up average heroes in S2. Both Endy and Hawks are prob in my top 5 char. I feel like its Aizawa, Hawk, Todoroki, Twice, and then Endeavor

(I confess I had to watch the reaction twice because the first time I was hooked only watching Endeavor's fight again xDD) Ok, let's talk about Endeavor. The Todoroki subplot is hands down the best subplot in MHA (I'd even call it main plot part 2 with how integral it becomes to the overall story). Trying not to spoil too much here so I'll just say, we have only scratched the surface with Endeavor this episode, and from here on out is when the real story unfolds. At this point in the series we are meant to root for Endeavor and be in awe of him as a hero despite the reminder that he was abusive with his family. It also serves as a nice checkpoint for Endeavor the hero/man on a personal scale since the last (and first) time we saw him fight the Nomus he was still high up in his arrogant asshole persona. Yet another reason why I love this episode so much cos it's such a 180 from back then! Endeavor is one of my favourite written characters in MHA, easily a top 5 for me from the whole show (not in terms of favourite characters overall though, I like him as a hero but not as a person). The writing is just SO GOOD. What I love most is how we get Shoto's character development done in a beautiful as a sort of a byproduct (dunno if that's the right word) of how well Endeavor's character is written, because in the story Shoto is everything good and great that Endeavor himself failed to become. You get a glimpse of what Endeavor could have been by looking at Shoto's character and vice versa. It's just so beautifully done, ugh! Ok I'll stop there before I ramble into spoiler territory lmao. Speaking of beautiful writing, people who hate on S4 and S5 are the ones who want some badass fight scenes every other episode and don't care much for the actual plot because both seasons (S5 especially imo) are almost peak narrative wise. S4 is a great setup to the next season where the story really starts to pick up. I personally don't believe MHA has a weak season, I think every season serves an important purpose to push forward the story. Maybe there's a small portion of S5 that seems slow in comparison, which is expected given it was made during the pandemic if I remember right, but still important to the plot. I'm really glad you guys didn't let the naysayers stop you from enjoying S4 the way you did! There's so much to look forward to in the next season! Like oh man I'm already getting chills thinking about your reactions to some of the episodes lmao! What we got with Endeavor and his family is the tip of the iceberg this episode. A lot of stuff with Deku coming up as well! Btw don't worry about the scene at the end with Deku and OFA, you're meant to be confused rn, you'll get your answers soon. There's a LOT to unpack with OFA and we'll do it soon and it's going to be EPIC haha! Thank you for such a wonderful reaction you guys! 2025-02-12 16:12:28 +0000 UTCthis might be a little lengthy (it is) but I can also talk about this episode a lot lol Some blink and you'll miss it moments to show how even more badass the fight was: -When Endeavor realizes the building is gonna collapse he signals Hawks then slices the building into smaller pieces so Hawks' feathers can carry all the ruble and prevent it from falling on the people near them -At 16:50 when Endeavor yells out hawks you can see the flame on his side make an arrow shape directed UP to signal Hawks to bring him higher really just goes to show badass and professional the no.1 and 2 hero are to move in sync and with minimal direction from each other but still have incredible teamwork Then of course the theme of Endeavor proclaiming to 'Watch me' and so many people around him echoing that statement -We have the pink haired boy shouting at everyone to look -Hawks explaining how he has always watched him so he knows how endeavor has been the only one even attempting to catch up to all might -And of course shoto saying he's watching and just all the family and everyone else also all watching the no.1 hero :) just so so good Also really loved his monologue at the end about how he sees himself in the nomu. This nomu was especially obsessed about looking for the strongest and defeating it so it can be the only one standing... and as he sees that he realizes that for his own start he needs to literally and metaphorically kill it and what it represents. Then when he comments about hating the plus ultra slogan i couldn't help but laugh while there was tears in my eyes lol he can be so unintentionally funny too and okay last one maybe on endeavor stuff! but it also showed how his weakness is that he can overheat whenever he uses too much of his fire power which is the reason he created shoto so the ice can help balance everything. I really liked that scene and how it showed him in retrospect and just how everything came to be and yea parallels with the nomu again cool shout with the endeavor injury btw reflecting shotos hehe okay now lets move on to the after credits of course its nothing much to go off on but when I saw it the first time I remember getting goosebumps when the other people appeared and the music played it was so mysterious and idk it was just so interesting much mystery much theories also a quick refresher! this isn't a spoiler since everything was said in the season 2 ep where all might explained about one for all -All for one wanted his younger brother to submit to him -He thinks his brother is quirkless -So gives him a stockpiling quirk which to someone like his brother would be useless -Surprise his brother isnt quirkless and has the power to pass on quirks (which alone again is useless) -The two power merged into becoming what we know as One for all the end~ haha so i think this was enough of an essay maybe if I remember of some more stuff i really liked ill comment some more but for now as always really really enjoyed the video~~ To season 5 we go?

Season 5 does have some slightly more valid criticisms as far as animation goes for the second half, but it's still amazing. This episode is phenomenal, a top 3 episode for sure. My Hero is an S tier show no doubt about it.
