I know I'm late to the party but I agree with Carlie, Kuvira is and has been a villain...Ange was saying that she hasn't killed anyone but when we first saw her this season she was literally going to leave those bandits on the train tracks to get run over if they didn't pledge their loyalty lol

She’s even right about most things, such as Prince Wu being a handpicked fool meant to make the Earth Kingdom easier to exploit by other national interests. In terms of realpolitik, after protracted periods unrest and instability (often caused by negligent kleptomonarchy), people do tend to gravitate towards charismatic leaders with authoritarian bents. Kuvira suffers from being a cartoon villain, because the smarter choice, the choice more in line with the character of her upbringing in Zaofu, would be to still abolish the monarchy, but instead create a parliament of federated city-states with herself as Prime Minister or Chief Executive. I imagine that would’ve been accepted by the rest of the world leaders with relative ease. But due to her role in the story, she needs to fill prison labor camps with dissenters she wouldn’t realistically have had, and a singular obsession with the forceful annexation of Republic City and Zaofu, creating enemies out of trading partners and making the Earth Kingdom a pariah state in the eyes of the world. It’s just like, she’s too smart for her turn into militaristic fascism when she was doing so well with militaristic neoliberalism.
