Bending the elements is just a manifestation of bending the spiritual energy inside yourself. the lion turtles unblocked the chakra on your forehead allowing you to access it. not everybody got their chakra unblocked, so winding down the generations, it's quite random who has it and who doesn't. Harmonic Convergence (the giant purple hue enveloping the entire planet) shifted the spiritual energy. including human's spiritual energy...unblocking the chakra to air bend for some ppl(think of it like a shaking skillet full of food and everything shifting to balance out flat on the bottom) That's my take anyhow. lol

Hebei moved between worlds as he saw fit, and would lose his temper and kidnap random innocent ppl for something other ppl did to the forest....plenty of examples of dangerous spirits.

I’ll be interested in seeing what they come up. Their thoughts always zig when I expect them to zag, like with them being so certain the airbending isn’t “real,” makes for entertaining discussions.

The show kinda just handwaves the spirit issue away by not ever depicting truly dangerous spirits in the physical world. Like Koh for whatever reason just prefers to hang out in its creepy domain. It does make sense though that some spirits would prefer their native ecology over life in the new spirit wild, it’s just too convenient by half that all the dangerous spirits do.

2024-11-23 23:51:16 +0000 UTCMy own head theory about why harmonic convergence made more airbenders was because it's all about balance. There's so few airbenders compared to the rest of the elements so it decided to tip the scales and balance things out. That's what I'd like to believe anyway.

Korra is NOT an official authority to any ONE group or people. the Avatar is respected yes, but She, nor any other Avatar could command a nation or people unless they used force to get them to comply. Imagine if in your community, a 3rd party person that didn't even live in your community, released thousands of dangerous and deadly animals or animals that threw the local ecosystem out of wack? you can't hold that person responsible....they aren't apart of your government....and you don't know if you government will be able to hold the 3rd party accountable either... Korra doesn't get to be upset at Raiko or the ppl for being frustrated or upset with her.....let alone try and convince anybody that that was the right decision....DOES ANYBODY REMEMBER KOH THE FACE STEALER? how can she justify allowing that to lurk in the shadows stealing your children's faces? or the scorpion spider spirit that take ppl to the FOG OF LOST SOULS! she is out of her mind! frankly, Raiko has grounds to charge her with crimes against humanity if anybody gets killed or maimed for allowing the portals to stay open! just saying....lol

In essence, if airbending is the ability to bend air, I personally don't see it as consequential that the bending was obtained via Harmonic Convergence/Spirit Portals being opened.

And like Ange said he most likely already has a background in martial arts or sth similar.. i mean look at the prison where they kept a NON bender, so he's gotta be dangerous
