In fairness the thud after the dancing scene is the clue in that she committed suicide without actually showing it. It's a good in-between and the information is all there. I mean, they clearly showed that she was miserable *Except* when she was with her daughter. Then she lost her daughter.

Undeath Ghost

Pretty sure this is following the general spiritual belief that children are more sensitive to the supernatural and spirits. The idea being that Aira does have a higher spiritual attunement than others and as a result when she was young she could see ghosts. But she grew up and didn't hone that skill (like Momo or Grandma) so she wasn't able to see them anymore until the ball boosted and re-awakened her spiritual senses.

Undeath Ghost

if you guys liked this episode, I think you'd really enjoy link click!

mb

Carlie you are right in you assessment that Aira COULD in fact see spirits as a child (or at least that one time). Her coming into contact with the golden ball has only awakened her latent spiritual power meaning something was always there.

The Great Santini

That was me with the end of Oshi no Ko episode 1. Cried maybe 20 different times watching people react to it lol.

The Great Santini

I know it's a week past but from what I gathered, Silky owed money to "someone", didn't pay it because she wanted to buy her daughter a nice dress and was punished severely for not paying. How tragic. She just wanted to do something nice for her daughter. Cruel but beautiful world.

Bryonna Yates

I haven't read the manga, but it sounds like both works really well in different ways. The dancing scene was so expertly created; it was so clear that those moments, her dancing, were her last moments as she transitioned into the afterlife.

Ethan J Soto

im kinda mad they did not make it as explicit as the manga but its still super good i wish hadn't read it

Jeff

someone's child getting kidnapped then ange said this music banging took me out🤣

Jeff

Such a beatiful and emotional episode, i was no expecting that and gave the anime so much more depth in the argument. The animation was just so beatiful and fluent. One of the best episodes of the year probably.

AngelFr0m Sky

Yeah the manga can be more brutal. I loved the way they showed the dancing scene here with the city lights in the background and the stars in the sky. It was beautifully tragic.

Shook

The camera angles in this episode were insane as well, the animation too. The music was in a class of its own though, it really made the episode so beautiful. Probably top 5 in terms of music in an episode for me!

Random123

The bang I think was the mom jumping off the roof when she was dancing. I think she committed suicide that same night her daughter was taken.

Hytechturtle

it is believed by many that kids can see spirits that is why she was able to see Acro silky but then lost that ability later on

charlie

This episode made this one of the best anime I’ve ever seen and it’s only episode 7

Jakai

We all got lured in by nut sacks and wieners, then got hit with emotional damage. At least with Violet Evergarden I felt it coming with the way the story is told. This came out of nowhere.

KuroNekoMataXIII

Aira could see her because animals and kids are more sensitive to the supernatural. The rooftop dance scene she was still alive and that thud at the end of the scene was her jumping off the rooftop. Super dark chapter even more sad in the anime beautiful job studio Saru one of the best episodes in anime in years.

AnakoX10

I havent cried for many years, this is probably 10th reaction i watched and i still cry like the first time

Nuvaa

I didnt ask for Violet Evergarden in my dandadan 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Daniel Molina

I assume Aira could see Silky because Silky was looking for a daughter and she was looking for her mom, that small thread of connection allowed them to see each other just for a moment.

DandyZombie

This episode broke me 😢💔

Maya Coleman

I think the reason Aira was able to see the woman as a child is because it's generally believed that children, old people, and animals are all perceptive to ghosts and spirits. Old people because they are closer to death, children because they've just been born (also who knows where we were before this? Some assume we've reincarnation, which would explain them also being closer to death), and animals because they are more in tune with nature (death being a part of nature). These are all just assumptions, but thats my two cents lol

britt m

It’s more haunting in the manga because the mother can literally be seen dancing on top of a building and gracefully ballet jumping from the roof. In this animation, she’s dancing on a peaceful water surface. Still, it’s beautifully executed—kudos to Science Saru studio. In the hotel room, we can see a man walking out of the door, which is a typical call girl/prostitute scene. Maybe the studio wants to avoid the controversy of a suicide scene and adult themes, and just give subtle hints, letting the viewers deduce for themselves.

Fajar Kurniawan

That’s nuts

Naqib _

Sometimes the story is about nutsacks and sometimes it kicks you in the nutsack

Night Sterling

you guys didn't miss anything, the anime was intentionally ambiguous about a lot of stuff - there's also a panel in the manga that didn't make it to the anime, speculatively showing acro silky and her real daughter reunited in the after life (last panel of chapter 17 for those who wish to see) the anime really did silky's back story justice, when I was reading the manga it was only a few panels, so my reaction was being horrified rather than sad - the piano piece here really brought the water works

Ang

My interpretation is that the void was her fate until Aira “saved” her and changed it, allowing her to meet daughter in the afterlife

peak episode

RoZiiii

this change deeply affected me more somehow. It was already so tragic in the manga but this adaptation where it seems like she was dancing in the stars and you hear her skull cracking after her daughter said "thank you" gutted me! thought i wouldnt cry as much because i already knew what was gonna happen but the direction of this episode was immaculate

chloe

Cinematic rollercooaster. Turns out b*tch-san (pinkgirl) not only had a ball of gold but also a heart of gold when it really mattered. 10/10

NootNoot

I feel like the woman va is the same as palm in hxh. If its true that would be cool considering her and palm have hair-like abilities.

Afiq Dee hya

In the manga, it is explicitly shown that the mom was dancing on the rooftop of a tall building, then leaped off to her death. That’s why you hear that “thud.” They “censored” it for TV version by making it more ambiguous. Also, in the manga it is heavily implied that the daughter was killed soon after the kidnapping, and mom and daughter reunited in the afterlife.

Jimbeezee

Ftom trying to find a weenie to this. 😭 I thought this was a comedy. Great episode 🥲❤️
