Sidenote: Dunno if you guys remember from S1, but Kana and Akane have two quite different acting philosophies (or ways of approaching acting). Akane does a thorough character study and tries to embody the character as close as possible (kind of like method acting, which I've read somewhere that actors like Christian Bale do). Kana on the other hand, approaches from a more analytical view. She morphs her acting according to what the director/script calls for and the interactions/chemistry with the other actors (hence why in Sweet Today she puts her acting more in line with Melt's such that there's not that big of a contrast between his bad acting and her own acting).

2024-11-01 23:18:33 +0000 UTCSo basically the reason they were allowed to get away with so much improv is because the play’s director said he adjusted the play to suit that style. A lot of the actors are teenagers who can be hard to work with, and the more popular ones are too busy with other jobs to make it to all the rehearsals. So they structured the play in a way that allowed actors to take liberties if needed.
