2024-10-15 02:38:36 +0000 UTCI would definitely agree with Ange that MHA is overhated. It's a hugely popular show, it has some very enthusiastic fans, and it's been around for a while at this point. Shows like that tend to draw a lot of hate no matter the quality. I personally love My Hero, it's been bringing me joy for a long time. I remember staying up until 4 AM on school nights, waiting for the weekly release of season one on Crunchryroll when I was in high school. Season 7 just finished airing, and there I was in my mid 20's, coming home from work excited to watch the new season. It's not a perfect show by any means, but it's really damn good, especially if you like character-driven narratives. I'm glad you guys enjoyed the movie, and like others are saying, they get even better from here :)

They fit neatly into the timeline, and nothing in them outright contradicts the main series (and some of the later seasons may or may not start to reference a few aspects of them), but you don't NEED to see any of them to understand the story. Personally, while I like them a lot (at least the two that I've seen), they're a little too bombastic and fanservicey for me to take 100% seriously, but I'm fine with anyone who does. I agree Melissa's great though. And it probably wouldn't hurt to keep her in the back of your mind as you get back into the main story.

2024-10-14 20:54:37 +0000 UTCI've heard that a lot of the hate MHA gets is because of the fandom's craziness though I cannot attest to that personally since I was not part of most anime fandoms lol. I also don't believe that any anime/manga series should be slept on just because of how "bad" the fandom is. That's a lame excuse. I agree that MHA is truly a remarkable shounen series. It may not be on equal levels with shows like DBZ, Naruto or One Piece which are the shounen a lot of us grew up watching/reading, but it's got the similar type of heart and craziness that shounen is known for. Given how much you guys love character-driven shows like Haikyuu and Frieren, I'm sure you will enjoy MHA in the same way because there are some really spectacular character writing in this series, both heroes and villains. It's such an honor to retake this journey with you two! <3

I was laughing my butt off at how Carlie got 'jealous' of Melissa on Uraraka's behalf xDDD Btw you guys missed some scenes in the credits so maybe you can keep in mind to watch those for the future movies, usually there will be some post credit or in-credit (I don't know what to call those) scenes for these movies. Also some of the plot points and references from this movie will show up in the anime. It will be fun to see if you guys can pick it out hehe. One scene with AFO (All For One) especially. Someone already explained but no, no one knows that Deku's quirk is the same as All Might's. People just think of it as a power-type quirk similar to All Might. Bear in mind that no one knows exactly what All Might's quirk is except for the ones he's told it to. The general public and other heroes all just think it is some kind of power-type quirk. All Might himself never answered that question in his interviews. (he mentioned this in season 1 ep 2). Thank you for enjoying this movie. My personal favourite MHA movies are the second one and the latest one that released this year, so I'm very excited for when you guys get to those. But now, let's go season 3!!!!

2024-10-14 19:00:24 +0000 UTCI loved this movie!. And yes, the 2nd movie is even better! You can safely consider that the events of the movie didn't happen. In general, all shounen movies are like this. And by the way, even in this movie, no one figured out that Deku has All Might's quirk. They already knew that their quirks are similar (except that Deku damages himself with it), and that Deku says smash with every move, but everyone thinks that he says that only because of admiration. The only thing which is not perfect about this movie, and almost every shounen movie out there, is that the main character always suddenly gain extra strength out of nowhere in the end to beat the villain! I mean he could deliver a 100% punch because of the guntlet, that's fine... but how could he keep up with All Might's full speed and run along with him without damaging his legs?? XD It doesn't make sense, and if it happened in the main show everyone will complain. But because it's a movie and the events are not in the actual story, we can just forget about those details and enjoy the scenes :)

2024-10-14 17:54:58 +0000 UTCThe movies are canon in the sense that the characters may be referenced/appear later on like you said Ange, but I'd say the story and consequences of the plots are largely ignored by the characters themselves moving forward. Kind of like bottle episodes in that regard. Someone else said "soft canon", I think that's a good way of putting it.

Also all of this is canon so keep that in mind for future seasons. It won't pop up much because they sort of like to keep the movies slightly separated from the main series but these characters and the background on all might is important to remember in the distant future.

If you want to watch chronologically you'll need to look up after which episode of which season for those movies as one movie takes place i believe half way through S5 and the other after it. Double-check that though as I may be mis remembering

They're directly tied, but it's a pretty weak connection, and they aren't a part of the main storyline, so don't expect plot progression like in mugen train.
