O.P Eps 103-104 REACTION!

i personally think its totally fine that women get smacked too in a story basically called "everyone gets smacked"? like, i really dont like when stories treat women like people who cant possibly take any pain or any beating, especially in a fantasy story. ALL the strawhats as well as every other character are like...NOT normal people. theyre freaks of nature anyway! so surely, it would be more problematic to act like vivi, a teenager who managed to sneak into a secret crime syndicate as a pretty higih-up figure, couldnt take ONE punch from luffy? a weak one at that? also in episode 1, luffy literally absolutely pummeled alvida in the fucking stomach, and now one wonders there why luffy would punch a women lmao

lmao luffy took smacking sense into someone literally. i def think the scene is a little distasteful, realistically vivi punching is nothing compared to a punch from luffy who has literally defeated arlong. i don't think it would pass if it was released today or if they did in the live action. and i think oda is also aware that punching a woman back isn't rlly tasteful. there's a reason no one touches nami in the crew even when she smacks them across the head. i guess he added the scene to drive the point home how mpassionate luffy was and to literally smack sense into vivi lol

I say naive because she's been trying to go for a plan where no one dies, and like Luffy said, People die. I think it's naive to think stopping a war won't end in a few casualties at the least.

yamato is a pirate trying to kill us? right i lost the plot. also you saying "it is very different to a hit a women who is a friend, these people are pirates that are trying to kill you"......as if that is a narrative that we see often in anime in general. fights are usually against two opposing sides, you're not gonna find a similar scene to this one. it doesn't change my point being, we've seen evil women being attacked (big mom) and good women being attacked (boa yamato, robin, bonny etc) i even mentioned other shows TODAY that show women being beat worse than male characters and they’re even more popular than ever so your point is immediately invalid. if anything media today is far more “brave” than it used to be back in the early 2000s (that’s why they’re remaking one piece to fix everything they censored from the manga) shows like jjk, made in abyss, jjba, kaiju no.8 demon slayer all show depictions of violence against women and children and no one is as “sensitive” as yall claim they are. btw it was yall who came up with this wild generalized claim that people have issues and are canceling shows because they have "sensitive content" (i still don't understand why your first thought was the n-word when we're discussing japanese anime but go off i guess) like no one mentioned anything negative about that scene with vivi and luffy in the comments everyone was joking around and yall came with "people are so sensitive nowadays, if this came out today people will cancel it for sure" like huuuh?? where did this come from?

He is correct. Oda would not write a scene like this today. You have competely lost the plot Greyxwaren. It is very different to hit a woman like Vivi who is a friend, compared to what you mention. He is correct, it was definitely perceived differently back then. Today people are tip toing like crazy around any sensitive subject. The world has become super sensitive. This is facts. Things like the N-word, hitting women/children, any single thing like this is super super hard to even talk about in this day and age. It was certainly different back when Oda wrote this.

This is a great idea! but I also think it should not be too big of a focus every single upload, but they can come back to it whenever they tick something off. Having a bingo card, sbs, 1 crew for this, 1 crew for that, intro song, etc etc. it will eventually become a bit overwhelming for most watchers when what we come for primarily is the reaction. I personally dont mind it, but im just pointing it out :)

I think they get it. They just had a pretty natural reaction to Luffy smacking Vivi in the face, but remember, Vivi was smacking him in the face too, she was first at it. They were just making jokes about it :) It is a reaction channel after all. They gotta react how they react :P People gotta remember it is a fictional story, and having a depiction of a man hitting a woman is a lot more taboo in the current day, especially in japan lets say. It was not so crazy to depict this when it came out, and it is just fiction after all. Oda wanted to make the moment series and have the proper weight.

dude wtf are you talking about, luffy would still punch vivi if that scene was written today. that's to speak of his character rather than what is accepted and what's not. oda already has sanji who constantly express that he'd never hit a lady, so your argument of "this was written during a time when hitting women was socially acceptable" that is just to show how transparent and straightforward luffy is. he doesn't beat around the bush, he doesn't sugar coat, and he sure is not gonna hold back any punches just because of what's between your legs. (SPOILERS AHEAD STOP READING HERE) you're saying oda wouldn't write such a scene today compared to the 2000's meanwhile just recently we had law and kid gang up against big mom (unless you wanna argue that big mom is not a women because she's old) and luffy fighting yamato when they first met and boa vs blackbeard (i can go on and on but i don't feel like thinking too much) my point is just because they're women doesn't mean they're untouchable in a SHONEN series. fights don't encourage violence against women irl and OP wouldn't be canceled because of that (if that's what your implying) plus other modern shows show far worse than luffy returning a punch so i genuinely don't understand your point

totally! but rather than naive i would say her approach was more diplomatic which i love since that's how she was brought up she understood her position from a very young age, like that instance with wapol during the reverie. her character is really consistent from start to finish and it's moments like these that remind me of that!

That's one of my top five favorite Luffy moments honestly. Vivi was being unrealistic, they were about to back track all the way back to where they started! This long trek they just did on the slight SLIGHT chance that Vivi can talk the rebel leader down. She was being naive. I think it really harkens back to Drum where Vivi showed Luffy that fighting isn't always the answer, well this time Luffy showed her that sometimes diplomacy isn't the answer either. Luffy said let's cut the BS and go straight to the root of the problem. Also weird as it is I love that he punched her. Vivi started that fight, she came at him with passion and with determination and he showed her his deepest respect by now treating her like a frail girl that can't take a punch. She's tough and he treated her as such! At the end of the day Vivi and Luffy are both leaders, her a future Queen and Luffy a Captain, this was a clash between them and im glad that when she used violence that he responded in kind. (even though we know he did hold back a bit since he is way way way stronger than her lol)

I would just like to comment that luffy, in fact, did not lose the plot. he always knew what the main objective/plot is. just like how vivi taught luffy a lesson in drum island to bend down for help, luffy teaches vivi something here. I think you wont get the true essence of luffys character until later
