2024-09-19 23:41:01 +0000 UTCAgree, the lockdown was not targeted at a small minority group. This is much more in parallel with racist governments (as you pointed out). Remember that this show takes place in a time similar to our 1920's - and that time period had some very extreme ideas starting to come out about controlling minority groups (cough nazis)

2024-09-19 22:16:15 +0000 UTCTarrlok proposing an apartheid regime in response to a popular insurgency is wild. Like, you’d have to know that would absolutely supercharge Equalist recruitment. The Avatar world must have like, reeeeally bad political science education. The lockdown comparisons are pretty off base though, imo. I know it’s an emotional topic for people, it sucked for me too. But the reference point here is specifically the Boer colonial government of South Africa, which would routinely cut off power to poor, majority black neighborhoods then kettle and catch the people who came out to protest it. It was one of the more common forms of collective punishment during that administration.
