For example if you're messing around as a kid, your mom would yell at you to "become a human" or "act like a human". Not very satisfying but I guess if Luffy ate the human fruit, he'd get all serious and file taxes etc.

They remark later that its hard to believe such a well mannered man is the brother of someone like Luffy haha
