Nah Carlie was 100% right to give Shoto MVP of Ep 10!! If Deku got MVP for encouraging ppl he'd have it almost every episode. Deku is a hero/encouragement to a lot of people but Shoto definitely deserved it this episode

2025-03-18 00:32:50 +0000 UTCDeku is clear MVP for me for ep 10 clear MVP. That development of Shoto would not have happened at least not this early on if it wasn't for Deku.

2024-12-13 10:52:35 +0000 UTCEpisode 10: Deku is probably the clearest MVP of all MVPs ever in the history of MVPs. He could have beaten Todoroki easily from the get go instead of enduring horrible pain just to save him. If Deku was just a bit egoistic he would have used a serious attack instead of only defense right away, and then that wouldn't even have been a fight. Todoroki only won because of Dekus actions and words. To give MVP to someone who got a win gifted, and has been saved is probably the craziest stretch i have seen so far. He is super cool though. Even though that might sound like im mad, i am not. Its super entertaining to see, which is why i am here for :)

2024-09-08 02:14:57 +0000 UTCSo excited to watch these reactions! Also, not so fun fact - since Todoroki is able to withstand really high heat, a big fan theory is that the burn is actually from his mom trying to help him with her ice.

2024-09-06 11:50:33 +0000 UTCep 10 was epic as I remembered (still one of my fav fights of the series). They kind of explained what happened, but basically Todoroki created a bunch of ice, which Midoriya dodged using OFA on his feet. Todoroki then used concentrated heat causing the cold air to suddenly heat up and quickly expand (the force of which was so strong that it pushed Midoriya out). Also loved Ange's shoutout for Kaji Yuuki. There was a time when I hated his voice since it was everywhere (esp. his Meliodas' voice), but as he got more diverse roles (like Kenma, Eren, +Todoroki), I've started to respect his range. Top VA for sure.

2024-09-06 05:21:35 +0000 UTCWoah no way you really went "hitting a 5 years old child is wrong BUUUUT" That's wild. There is no "but" after "hitting a child is wrong". You claim you're not defending him but everything in your comment screams the exact opposite lol... You admit he slapped her but also say he didn't beat her up. Slapping your wife IS beating her up. The fact that you don't think so is honestly scary.

2024-09-06 05:06:13 +0000 UTCAgreed haha, I'm a todo-baku-deku stan overall so either is a win for me but Deku just gives off the "My Hero" vibes perfectly in ep 10, especially with how that shapes Shoto up later in the show.
Meg
2024-09-06 05:01:54 +0000 UTC100% agree!! i’ll give it to carlie that deku doesn’t deserve all the credit (it’s todoroki’s moment after all) but the hero for me was definitely deku for all the reasons you stated xD especially mirroring all might in not only action but wisdom too is crazy like the impact he had when he delivered the line “it’s your power, isn’t it?” gives me chills every time
# vivi
2024-09-06 04:29:05 +0000 UTCCarlie let’s go, another W I get it that Deku was the factor but it was Todoroki’s trauma and him overcoming it even if it’s 1% still such a huge dub for him bc it was his choice and his actions

2024-09-06 03:23:41 +0000 UTCI'm sorry, but he absolutely did hit her. It's shown happening multiple times, not just this episode, and it's shown more graphically in the future too. Yes, the "put her in the hospital" line is about a mental hospital and I agree she should be there because what she did to Shoto is absolutely NOT OKAY. However, Endeavour essentially gave her so much PTSD from abuse that just the sight of her child walking into the room triggered her into reacting that way. Not an excuse for her to do it, but it is Endeavour who pushed her to that point. Phrasing it as "no matter what abuse she was under, what she did is her own doing" diminishes Endeavour's role in leading to this incident with Shoto and puts pretty much all the blame on her. She shouldn't have done that to Shoto and she's not justified in doing it, but it is also Endeavour's fault for pushing her until her mind broke and she couldn't tell the difference between Endeavour as her abuser and her child because he looked like Endeavour. Saying that "he's training him" doesn't make it not abuse. He's hitting Shoto to the point of throwing up on the floor, hitting his mother in front of him (emotional and physical abuse), isolating Shoto from his siblings (emotional abuse), and verbally abusing Shoto constantly by telling him he needs to be better. He's also putting all of Shoto's value as a person onto his ability to perform as a hero FOR Endeavour, not for Shoto himself. Telling your 5 year old child that his only worth is to fulfil your personal goal IS abuse and messes with a child's mind and self worth for the rest of their life. "Training him" should never start this young, or without the child wanting to participate - which Shoto clearly didn't want as we can see him having to be dragged down the hall when he wants to play with his siblings instead. Even if Endeavour considers this "training" THIS IS ABUSE. And that's only what's in THIS episode! I know you said you weren't trying to defend Endeavour, but that is very much how it comes off from what you wrote. You are free to like the character and his role and development throughout the story (he is well written), but that doesn't change the fact that he is abusive and DID hit his wife and child. There is no mistranslation there, it's just a fact.
Jamie
2024-09-06 03:07:28 +0000 UTCYeahhh, I'm a little confused by what you're trying to say here. The audible slap definitely wasn't a 'mistranslation.'

2024-09-05 20:48:44 +0000 UTCMy vote is for Deku for MVP of 2x10~ He really did not have to do what he did for Shoto, but like All Might said, he truly has the heart of a hero. Deku saw how upset Shoto was about the whole situation and on top of that, his lack of effort in the tournament overall. He decided he couldn't overlook it, despite knowing that it could lead to his detriment.

2024-09-05 20:47:22 +0000 UTCAppreciate you two still dropping videos for us! We know you're going through a really hard time right now. Wishing you two all the best! I agree with other comments here about really hashing out the criteria/requirements for the MVP segments. You two were approaching it from two different angles, I feel. Carlie's right in her argument for Todoroki since 1) he was obviously the winner of the match, and 2) he was overall the better fighter, even before using his fire. Even Deku recognizes that his judgement/mobility/power are all incredibly impressive. However, Angelo is also right in his arguments (and I always felt the same way he does, to be honest!) Deku was the MVP in EP 10 in the sense that despite wanting to win, he ultimately wanted to HELP Todoroki even more. He apologized to All Might because he realized that if he just kept his mouth shut and exploited Todoroki overusing his ice, there's a chance he could have won. Deku being Deku though, he saw his classmate was hurting and not reaching his full potential, so he encouraged him and egged him on, even when it led to him getting DEMOLISHED. All Might saw it too. Not mad about Todoroki getting MVP, but I do respectfully disagree 😊 Looking forward to seeing how surprised y'all will be at the end of the sports festival! The next half of Season 2 is just as kickass.
Charles
2024-09-05 20:43:07 +0000 UTCShoto’s mom’s actions had nothing to do with Shoto’s personality since we saw he was a sweet kid who looked up to All Might. It was only his appearance since he inherited both his parent’s hair and eye color (right side: white hair/grey eye, left side: red hair/blue eye). When she was talking on the phone he was peeking in with the left side of his face, so all she could see was the side that scared her and she flipped out.

2024-09-05 20:10:04 +0000 UTCThis is the only time I care about MVP. DEKU IS 100% THE MVP OF 2x10. Without Deku pushing him and reminding him that the power is his own, not his dad’s, Todoroki never would have gotten out from under that anger and accepted himself. He would have continued to be hate an entire half of his own person. DEKU SAVED TODOROKI.

2024-09-05 19:08:35 +0000 UTCDue to an odd translation, I want to clarify just a couple of small things: Todokori's dad never "beat his mum up", the slap there is meant to isolate and push his mum to her limits. The thing is, no matter what abuse she was under, what she did to Todoroki was her own doing. Endeavour still plays a part in her trauma and helps it get there. As for the "I put her in the hospital" line, that is just much harder to read through translation, but think of it as "mental hospital", he didn't beat her relentlessly or something, he put her where she technically needs to be. Even if he dropped dead the next day, she needs to be there due to her capacity to pour kettle water on her kid (trauma or not). None of the above is defending Endeavour's actions or goals, but I love this episode a ton, and it is a bit sad that it has to be narrated this way for maximum shock value, to me Endeavour was always like a Vegeta. Hitting Todoroki at 5 is wrong, sure, but he's "training him", much like a Vegeta, he doesn't see a kid, but the potential, in my eyes. I think y'all will progressively love each season more and more, some people say it falls off in certain seasons, but, respectfully I assume they're very young fans who hate exposition. All good shounen have exposition arcs to make you invested more into future events... I think people who don't like the exposition for MHA expected it to be more of a school battle shounen with a heavy emphasis on a slice of life. Looking forward to future upload <3

2024-09-05 18:53:03 +0000 UTCNo Deku = No left side from Todoroki. Deku is absolutely the MVP. I'm not even sure how you could come to a different conclusion. Even All Might recognized what he was doing for Todoroki.
Cap
2024-09-05 18:51:51 +0000 UTCDeku could have won the match if he didn't push todoroki to use his fire. He could have won the match well before the fight was over with in one big attack. Deku literally stated in episode 11 everything that has been said. You can be a todoroki fan all you want but the series itself laid out everything saying Deku was actually the most valuable person in the episode.

2024-09-05 18:33:55 +0000 UTCI think the MVP/My hero segment discussions might get a little easier and better all-round if you guys figure out what exactly you want that segment to primarily be about, because unlike Haikyuu a sports anime, MHA is more ambiguous in that sense. For ep 10 if you meant MVP of the match/episode then it's Shoto (Todoroki), while he did essentially win thanks to Deku's words reminding him of his origin, he was also fighting a good battle before he used fire IN COMPARISON to Deku who was breaking bones trying to fend off Shoto's attacks. From a battle perspective it's clear who the better fighter was, even if Shoto let the frost overtake him a bit. But if you meant MVP as in the true hero of the episode overall then it was clearly Deku's win. I get Carlie's point that All Might and Shoto's mom also inspired him but literally without Deku's words Shoto wouldn't have remembered them and would have continued shooting ice over and over. Not only did Deku unintentionally help Shoto win, he healed Shoto's heart from that previous moment where his dad had reminded him that he was just his tool to beat All Might (right before his match with Sero the tape guy), Deku also reminded Shoto that his power is his own which Shoto himself knew (since he does still use his left side to melt his ice and stuff, just not in battle so technically he's not fully rejecting that power, despite his own resolve). And most importantly, Deku critiqued Shoto for saying he'll win by using just half his power, meanwhile everyone else is fighting with all they got which is essentially what this battle is about, for heroes to show their true heroism and fight fair and square with everything they've got. Him calling out Shoto for his own hypocrisy is what cinched it for me, and the reason Shoto remembered All Might's words about children owning the power they inherit from their parents showed that to Shoto in THAT moment, Deku was basically the same All Might who inspired him years ago. Given all that, I think the "Hero" here was definitely Deku. That's how I saw it at least. Just a suggestion from my end^^ The MVPs for this anime can be tough haha, but the challenge makes it all the more fun and I truly enjoy your discussions on it. Ep 10 was such a blast, I lost it at Ange's dismay over Cementoss butting in! xDD Ep 11 sets the stage for the second arc of the season and I'm soooo so excited for you guys. Can't wait to watch ep 12 next!

2024-09-05 18:14:49 +0000 UTCI was about to throw hands in that 2x10 MVP segment. Todoroki is ABSOLUTELY the MVP there! I agree with Carlie that Deku certainly triggered a lot of the introspection that Todoroki had during that fight, but there were a whole lot of influences (All Might, his mother, etc.) that ultimately allowed him to start the healing process and overcome his trauma to win this fight. Deku shouted some encouraging words at him, but the bulk of the work in this episode was done by Todoroki. Todoroki went on a whole arc of character growth in this episode. It's damn impressive, especially since he did WIN the match! I also disagree with people characterizing Deku as having intentionally given up the match to Todoroki by spurring him to using the fire. He wasn't doing a big self-sacrificing thing. He was definitely encouraging Todoroki, but he still tried his best to win, and ultimately was not able to do so. He also came out of that fight with excessively serious injuries that he inflicted on himself with no forethought to his future health. It was pretty reckless, and not a good decision on his part.
Rae
2024-09-05 18:12:26 +0000 UTCNo no no. Deku is 100% the MVP lol. He gave up his win to save todoroki from his own situation. Deku could have won if the match continued to go with todoroki only using ice. All might himself noticed that Deku gave up the match to save todoroki. The cement walls also actually were a lot more against deku than it was against todoroki because deku uses physical hits opposed to todoroki using ice and fire. Todoroki did great but without deku none of that would have happened.

2024-09-05 17:57:19 +0000 UTCThis is definitely a difficult MVP choice but I'm gonna have to agree that it should be Deku for ep 10. He basically threw the match by encouraging Todoroki to use his fire when he most likely would have succeeded in blowing him out when Todroki was partially immobile from the ice. He was too set on not using his fire to spite his dad to put his all into winning without the things Deku said. Words have power 💪
