I’m just catching up on Kaiju No.8 because I finally have started watching myself and I’ve been watching dub for a change - which is really good too! - and Ichikawa calls Kafka ‘sir’. It’s just like you said here, they’re an adorable duo lol

2024-09-22 15:05:04 +0000 UTCAs others have mentioned, they're all using the same suits, it's just a matter of how much power you can draw out of it. We see that Shinomiya has her own version of the suit in the parking lot (she's not using this for the exam, they're all wearing the same one for the test) so she clearly has experience with them and a high aptitude for it. Another thing to notice about the suits is that the more power you can draw from the suits, the stronger you are with everything else such as Shinomiya running on the walls. Picking up the heavy equipment like the guns is easier as we see Kafka who is at 0% can't even lift his while Shinomiya is running around on the sides of buildings with hers. We also see that the more power you can draw out of the suit, the more firepower the guns produce. Shinomya basically one shots all of the kaiju while the others have to take multiple shots to kill them.

2024-08-31 04:44:44 +0000 UTCThe suit that Shinomiya uses in the parking lot is basically the one that they give you for the exam, but it's her private one. The big deal there is supposed to be that she has private military equipment of her own. But she's not using that one in the exam, you can see the designs are different, too. Simply each individual can draw out a different percentage of the suit based on aptitude and hers is way higher than the rest of the others. The second highest one is almost 30 points below her. That's a big part of the reason why she's so much better here. Of course there's also probably a lot of training involved.

2024-08-30 04:55:25 +0000 UTCThe military/defense force would not allow Shinomiya to use some special suit that gave her an unfair advantage during the test. That would defeat the purpose of putting these people through a test in the first place. She simply has a high aptitude for bringing out the suit's power. Maybe because she has trained with the suits or spent a lot of time in them, we don't know.

2024-08-30 04:53:05 +0000 UTCWell, she was wearing the same suit as everyone else. She wasn't wearing any special suit or anything. The Defense Force wouldn't let someone have such a clear unfair advantage like that in a standardized testing scenario. It doesn't make sense.

2024-08-30 04:51:16 +0000 UTCIdk about that one. I disagree. Shinomiya is still at least competing on the grounds of what is "possible" for a human being. Kafka is no longer human and has INSANE power when using his Kaiju powers. I agree with him (Kafka) and his choice to NOT use the power.

2024-08-29 23:28:20 +0000 UTCI was hating on Carlie's take at first, but the more I think about it Shinomiya is just naturally talented or "gifted" which gives her an edge, and you can think of Kafka's ability as him being "naturally gifted" too, so using his own skills shouldn't make him feel like he's cheating.

2024-08-29 18:05:56 +0000 UTCCarlie and ange I just wanted to clarify that Kafka chose not to use his powers during the exam because he knew that he would get killed on the spot and also he wants to be apart of the defense force without using his kaiju powers but that is all I can really say because I don't want to spoil it and regarding Mina just let the writing cook
