Time to start watching this show with you :) I don't care what people said about this show, I enjoyed it throughout and recorded it on my Tivo when it was releasing when I was younger lol. 2024-09-01 00:42:54 +0000 UTCIt's not that Korra not being a pacifist misses the mark, it's how she's written that misses the mark. The show tries to have this angsty teen character that struggles with doing the right thing, someone who's rash and reactionary. It's actually a really interesting take on having her be the Avatar (and main character) because you'd expect an Avatar to be wise, patient and considerate. So the groundwork for this to be interesting is there, but the execution is flawed. I'm not going to explain it all here, as to prevent a spoiler conversation, but I think the writers didn't know how to write this kind of character into someone compelling through the entire series. I'll add that I do believe Korra's writing improves a lot in the later seasons, but it stays inconsistent for too long.

Because of this, the writer's initially worked to tell a full-circle story in one season. It's most likely why Korra is seen bending 3 elements as a toddler, fast-forwarding to her teen years. They simply didn't have the time to build up a mastering-journey like they did with Aang.

2024-08-25 22:26:34 +0000 UTCI like Korra, but I do find its pacing is rushed. It has great ideas, but the execution was hard to digest with the torrent of things happening all at once IMO. ATLA's flow with how it teaches the lessons and pacing the story was very organic, natural. Upon reading the comments, that might be because apparently the series was only greenlit for 1 season, so they had to fit all their ideas in the 12 or so episodes.

I think you guys said Toph was dead which was not confirmed in this episode, she's a ??? - Sokka was confirmed dead 3. Avatar Aang would have died immediately before Korra was born, as she is his reincarnation. The avatar doesn't come into a child around age 5 - that's just when she started bending and they could confirm it was her.

Its hard for a show to be its own things when its under such a big shadow. I think season three was when it finally hit its stride and found its identity as a series separate from ATLA. I have a a lot to say but I wont spoil by complaining about plots I wish were better handled. All in all, its a fun time, just not as iconic and groundbreaking as ATLA.

2024-08-24 18:31:41 +0000 UTCSome things you need to know about LoK: it wasn't yet green lit for multiple seasons when writing for Season 1 started so you're going to feel a jarring pace when it comes to storytelling, meaning they were writing season 1 with the knowledge that there was only going to be 1 season, not 2, let alone 3 seasons. Second is that ATLA was so good that people couldn't help comparing the two stories, in particular the two Avatars, their personalities, and the way they make decisions. Aang is held to such a high standard that Korra is forced into a position of living up to that. Third, LoK unfortunately suffered because the lead was a female POC, and a sizeable chunk of the derision it got was because the more ... backwards side of the fandom couldn't handle or process her complexity, especially in the later seasons when sensitive topics come into play. So please don't be swayed by the comments for now and just enjoy the show at face value.

Also saying things like “you’re entitled to expressing your opinion” or “free to express yourself” it’s pretty unnecessary because that is a Given. TLOK has good soundtrack and good fighting choreography other than that the story is poorly written and so are MOST of the characters (with very few exceptions) feel free to label my opinion as “purely based on emotion” as well for as long as that helps yours feel validated.

I'm huge into Aang's philosophies and I think Korra differs from him in a lot of ways. That doesn't have to be a bad thing necessarily, and sometimes it's really engaging and compelling, but overall it misses the mark. This show has a rough time writing it's villains too (not that the writing is all bad, but I'll clarify this at a later point in time). I'll give my full thoughts on it at the end of the series, as I don't want to spoil anything. I want to make it clear that I don't think this show is bad, I just think it's inconsistent. Despite all of this, I still enjoy re-watching this series. I'll also clarify that I actually think there are some parts of this series that are significantly better than ATLA. You'll just have to see for yourself.

The music, characters, villains, action can be just as good as the best of ATLA. Season 3 of Korra is a personal favorite, some days I'd even rank it as my favorite season of either show. Overall it's nowhere near as consistent as ATLA, much of that had to do with outside factors. Nickelodeon really screwed the production side of things, but that's a whole other ball of wax.

And no im not "trying to get them to hate the show as well". I might occasionally chime in when LOK screws up the lore and give some info of how it originally was, like in this chase korra being able to bend 3 elements at 3 years old being nonsense (normal babies start talking between 12-18 months) im sorry but if youve payed any attention during atla that doesnt make any sense... another example is toph: she is a prodigy/ legendary master of earthbending that probably only is seen every few generations, and she only bends ONE element, she was 5 when she started learning earthbending from the original benders (badgermoles) and only mastered it over time but her being blind obv. accelerated the learning curve due to neccessity. Korra is 3 and bends 3 elements... and this isnt just my opinion, many people share the sentiment that this isnt in line with everything being set up. do with this information as you please, except for taking offense to it because its starting to get annoying how bitchy people get

That aside I'm curious how you guys will receive this show. Definitely some parts of this show I felt a type of way about it but it's easier to digest when you keep in mind that she's a very different avatar from aang and it's a whole new era.

"no where in avatar do they say an avatar can’t bend three elements in childhood, knowing how to bend isn’t the same as mastering it." i never said it was said literally word for word in the show but its definitely inbetween the lines, bending the elements takes years of practice... think about it logically, roku was 16 when he left and started his training, he was definitely end of 20s if not older when he mastered the last element. but yeah sure korra can bend 3/4 elements as a toddler... my expectations for LOK definitely arent the sole source of my disappointment but im not sure what standards you have when mine where wrong because i mostly expected to keep the canon in line and not re explain / over explain things that ruin the lore... i think thats a reasonable expectation, why do you think most star wars fans dislike the sequel trilogy? because it doesnt respect the lore set up in the source material. same thing here. also i wouldnt be disappointed if i didnt see the potential this had but thats obv. after it being an atla successor... you have to interpret this show on a very superficial level to believe that it follows the same strengths that atla had (like saying its the same because theres bending in here and an avatar... thats the bare minimum)

2024-08-24 11:20:39 +0000 UTC"dont watch it then" is a horrible take, im a great of atla, its probably my favorite franchise, so of course im pissed at the lore changes done here... also no stop lying theres no canon ATLA content that says a toddler can bend 3 elements, also kindly, please re watch ATLA because that show makes it clear that bending 3 elements at 3-4 years old is more or less IMPOSSIBLE... she didnt even have teachers or nothing, look at how far katara got, being MUCH older than korra and barely being able to bend without a teacher...

2024-08-24 11:19:18 +0000 UTCit’s natural to feel sad about the Gaang being old/dead/not center stage anymore. I think it’s one of the reasons many people dislike Korra. but give the new characters a chance! and just keep in mind it’s not ATLA, it’s a different show.

2024-08-24 11:14:48 +0000 UTCeasily in my top 10 most disappointing shows out there, even the way just the first episode starts is bad, no toddler can bend 3 elements and if you think that then rewatch atla please, and if anyone still think so then watch it again until you understand (its not hard to understand tho)... have fun tho, especially the s2 writing is so garbage its almost good again... also since Carlie asked no the writers are somewhat changed, some of atla are still on board but i think around half of them werent involved with atla (and it will show), i also think its sad that you guys watch a masterpiece of a show that could've built an amazing franchise and then approach the successor with "no expectations".... that makes little to no sense at all, or could be translated to we know this show might suck but because theres fans that we dont want to disappoint we'll pretend its fine
