SPOILER AHEAD please carlie and ange avert your eyes. I mean the writing is just a mess, you got all thoses episodes and seasons about how the quirk and hero society actually is full of flaws and quite dystopic and like deku is confronted to all that but still fight like the good little soldier of the system to restore that same society and status qo with the same problems and flaws. Also this was supposed to be the stroy of how he became the greatest hero (wich he did not lmao) but it's just the stroy of how he became a cuck and employee of the month at mcdonalds and how he could've never been a hero without a quirk.

Kind of ironic that your whole comment is about bashing people for having a different opinion from you and then you end your comment with "that's just my opinion I guess." People are allowed to have their opinions and not like things just like you are allowed to have yours. I personally thought seasons 4 and 5 were very weak. I still liked some arcs and episodes in them but they lack the cohesion the earlier seasons felt like they had. For example if you look at U.A sports festival i think it is one of the best arcs in the show bc it juggles a large ensemble of characters masterfully introducing you to new ones and developing older ones I love it. The episode that introduced Shinso is a good example. But if you look at the joint training arc then you can see the difference in writing where most characters are getting sidelined or are heavily involved but with no meaningful development all to focus on a couple of main characters that we don't need more of. If not for Bakugo and Shinso this arc would be irredeemable to me. I personally never got as hyped during the arc as I was even during Bakugo vs Uraraka and that fight was mostly listening to what people are saying on the sidelines but it is developing multiple characters at the same time in a meaningful way for both of them that gives us a better understanding of who they are we never get that in joint training or anything close. I picked these two arcs bc of how similar they are and bc they are handling the same cast essentially.

Really don't get why people dislike an emotional MC. Deku was born quirkless and bullied throughout his childhood, he is bound to have low self-esteem and confidence issues seeing others around him. He didn't have a father figure in life, he knows All might's secret and is watching him weakening while he has got a quirk he has no control over, I mean this is all overwhelming for a kid his age. Despite all this he is always the one to jump in first to save people, I feel those moments are always way more hype and meaningful because we know how he is usually. It's refreshing to see an mc who does not suppress his feelings and be all stereotypical macho all the time.

If this is how you react to the first season you’re in for a serious treat in the later seasons; especially the newest ones. Love how the show does a pretty good job showcasing everyone’s quirk, cohesiveness, and rapport with one another. Love anime’s and to me, this one is the one that hits me emotionally the most. What’s inconsistent about it? Sure it might over rely on mugufins and a failure to commit, in places. S6-7+ in particular. {manga reader} Thematically and characteristically it’s always been consistent.I think where it suffer is structure, making the initial experience of things anticlimactic eg ⭐️✨. But everything is set up and characters stay true. The counter balance to that, is that it’s so focused on thematics that some world building and characters don’t get enough time to individualise them selfs. It depends on the goal of the story, it’s not one piece where everything is constantly expanding, and volume long backstories for every character. Hiri opens up with a clear message he wants to explore “what does it mean to be a hero, when not everyone is created equal.” he does a decent job of doing that. The core is not plot or character really, it’s answering that question. Ironically especially season 5, it just goes understated because the scenarios to do that aren’t as interesting, in early parts. The problem with season 5 is again structure - Hiri desperately wants to get into the meat but can’t do that without setting up things, so in an attempt to ironically rush he puts it in one arc rather then spending it out. That’s why 2-6-7, are the most entertaining because it’s clear that he doing things he wants to explore rather then filling requirements to get there. Like Deku, he needs a goal to be for-filled.

Season 1 is great and I'm glad you both enjoyed it, but I think it's also the most 'standard' of all the seasons, if that makes sense. Like, the common criticism of MHA that it doesn't break the shonen mold applies by far the most to this season. From season 2 on, MHA really starts to build a unique identity, and I seriously can't wait to see your reactions if you're enjoying it this much already. (Also, don't let people poison the well for you regarding the later seasons. The absolute worst thing I can say about them is that the pacing in S5 is too slow, but if you guys could make it through the middle of the chimera ant arc, you've got nothing to worry about lol)

I disagree with sub having lows. I think sub is almost always consistent and the VAs almost always bring their best performance with their voices. Dub often sounds preachy and the lines feel out of place frequently.

Season 7 has been very well received and probably one of the best seasons yet. I also agree with what others have been saying and that the show doesn’t really get worse, people just complain a lot. Part of season 5 was a somewhat boring training / tournament style arc but it still progressed the plot. That’s literally it lol, the rest of the episodes are all great

I still have to watch ep 13 reaction but I wanted to give my 2 cents about Shigaraki and the "sorry father" line. I could be wrong since I haven't been into MHA since it first came out but I remember always assuming and even now it just makes sense in my mind that he was apologizing to his father because the hand that got knocked off his face maybe belonged to him. I never got past S4 of the show so idk and idr if that's addressed or accurate but that's where my mind goes for that scene.

The OST you keep saying you love (All Might vs. Nomu & the end of episode 13) is called You Say Run. It's one of the most iconic OST's for the series and definitely hits hard! It's so surreal to have the manga finish its last chapter this week and come back to the start of the show with you two. I'm so glad you're enjoying it and can't wait to re-experience more of it with you! The hate My Hero gets after S3, in my opinion, is unwarranted. The first half of S4 is one of the best sets of episodes in the whole show. The second half of S4 has its low points, but like you said if you love the characters by that point you can get through those few episodes. S5 is generally considered a "worse" season but it's not as bad as people say it is. Mostly a pacing issue and they reordered some events from the manga. It's not bad, it's just not as well done as the rest of the series. S6 & S7 so far have been some of the best in the whole series though!

The writing and characters for MHA doesn’t decline but the main issue is 3(back half) to 5 has worse pacing. 5 having great moments, but the worst pacing of the show. 4 has really unfair judgments off fans - and while it might not be for everyone, it matches the stuff You / many others / and myself usually like - tone change is all. If you love the themes, messaging and characters of the show in general, you will still enjoy them. 6-7 are great, very Dragon ball in the best ways - be excited!

I think overall when you include everyone and every character the sub is overall better but the dub has worst but it’s highs are better than sub. The sub is more consistent but the dub highs are highs but lows are also incredible lows.

Totally agree. Even if you take the anime away and only look at the manga/story, it’s still a great time, especially is you actually care about the characters Horikoshi writes about

You might recognise the villain's boss as the same va as dimple sama :) Also for what it's worth I started watching quite recently, halfway through season 4 and the quality has never really dropped. I think S1 is the weakest at least so far.

This series is so good. Super happy you guys got locked in early! Also, the first half of season 4 is VERY good, imo. It's really the second half that most people weren’t as into. I think both 4 & 5 are pretty solid though. 6 & 7 are UNREAL.

I've only seen up to season 5 ending so far, and season 1 is by a large margin my least favourite season. It's still good, but it's only up from here in my opinion. Can't wait for some of the big scenes, and glad the two of you are loving it right now.

agree. it usually just comes across as people wanting more punchy, punchy, big booms, bright colors and having no awareness of the central themes of the show.

might seem like a minor correction, but the show does pay attention to these sort of bureaucratic distinctions. the nomu is actually in the custody of the police—not UA.

tbh, I think people are really overplaying Seasons 4 and 5 not being good, the show does not dip in quality enough for it to be such a major talking point.

frankly this is one of the few anime i actually prefer the dub for. wouldn't say one is inherently better than the other, but as a native english speaker a lot of the hardest hitting moments land a lot better with the dub.

Exactly, there will always be stronger and weaker moments, but that's only relative to the rest of the show. Overall, ALL seasons are very very solid and there's something to like about each.

You loved Season 1? great... wait for S2 and S3 and S4 and S6 and S7!! They're all better than S1 XD S4 is not weak... it's one of the best seasons... the only let down was S5, and it was not bad at all... it's good, just not as good as the others.

Yeah seriously! I love the dub and sub equally, and they each have their moments, but I will say some of the line deliveries in dub are actually top tier, while the voice acting is more “consistent” in sub

I think overall when you include everyone and every character the sub is overall better but the dub has worst but it’s highs are better than sub. The sub is more consistent but the dub highs are highs but lows are also incredible lows.

Nah, the dub might have some cooler lines on paper, but the sub provides way more impact to the lines imo.

In Dub his final lines against the Nomu are “now for a lesson, you may have heard these words before, but I’ll teach you what they really mean, go beyond. Plus ultra” to me it’s way more epic. Definitely watch if you get a chance!

This was the first time I really wish they watch it in dub. I hope you guys go back and watch the all might part of episode 12 in English on your own time. I would 100 percent say the dub is really great in MHA
