Just to confirm for you - the manga doesn't go much further into things, it also assumes that you have a certain degree of familiarity with eastern religions and philosophy ๐

2024-08-10 20:50:45 +0000 UTCSomeone behaving like an 8 year old doesn't mean I am gonna assume they ARE 8 year old. No way I knew giant was only 8 years old until I read the manga detail.

2024-08-10 20:49:23 +0000 UTCThey didn't 'shit' on the giant. His rampage had to be stopped, that's what they said. It would be same for Gabi if he wasn't a changed man. Giant didn't change into something nice. Plus... anime never mentioned Giant was an 8yr old with a compulsive eating disorder.

2024-08-04 09:36:21 +0000 UTCTo clarify, this story seems to have a lot of Eastern religion and mythology baked into its roots. A lot of the concepts therefore may be foreign and unfamiliar to many. So rather than your question that the world-building may be more expansive and detailed in the manga, I think it's more pre-supposing you are already familiar with Eastern religion and religious history when going into this show. I am not a manga/LN reader though. TL;DR: The show assumes you know the basics of Taoism and Buddhism. ---- As an example, the Middle Way (what Genji describes Sagiri as living) is a Buddhist concept: do not strive to any one extreme, but find the balance somewhere in the middle; that is the key to a healthy, balanced life and worldview. The Buddha discovered the Middle Way after having lived both extremes of indulgent over-abundance, and indulgent self-righteous poverty. As an Indian prince, he was very intentionally sheltered by his parents from the harsh realities of the world, and was basically like ATLA's Earth King living in Ba Sing Se... completely oblivious to reality. When he found out that the world was full of sickness and suffering, he felt immense guilt and shame regarding his ignorance, and he felt very very strongly for those suffering. He wanted to correct his ignorance about the world, and so he went on a journey after renouncing his royalty (and even his wife and children, I believe). He was disgusted by his excess wealth while others had so little, so he chose to live as a ascetic beggar with the monks, in hopes to find a better way to live, in order to discover the truth of this world (Enlightenment). After quite some time living in this extreme, however, he arrived at a revelation that not only is excess abundance bad for your body, mind, and spirit, but so is poverty (especially unnecessary and self-righteous poverty in his case)... you cannot even think or function properly when you're battered by the elements and starving (of course). This journey made him realize that balance in one's lifestyle and worldview is necessary for a healthy body, mind, and spirit... and that this concept can apply to practically everything: hence the Middle Way. Buddhism has some very interesting lore and concepts, if you're interested in learning more about Buddhism. --- This balance and "Middle Way" is also reflected in the separate Daoist/Taoist religion/ideology... the very famous Yin-Yang concept: even in opposites, one can find a semblance of the other.. they are all interconnected. You can find the masculine in the feminine and vice-versa, weakness and strength, light and dark... etc. {Wikipedia} "Yin and yang can be thought of as complementary and at the same time opposing forces that interact to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts and the parts are important for cohesion of the whole." This is also a concept explored in ATLA as you saw with the Northern Water Tribe's Spirit Oasis fish.... and may or may not also be a thing in Korra if you decide to watch it.

2024-08-04 09:13:54 +0000 UTCYeah, Carlie's right about the kidneys, but I think the bigger organ affected by that swipe is the liver. It's very large and the bulk of it is on the right side. Just a blunt blow there hurts and shuts down your nervous system (well-known in fighting)... but getting it eviscerated is something else. Fun fact: Hunger Games is more well-known, but the deserted island battleground concept actually predates Hunger Games by a Japanese novel and film, Battle Royale. I know that trivia was tossed around a lot back when the Hunger Games was trending though.

2024-08-04 08:25:39 +0000 UTCReally like this show. Thereโs a lot of things of binary things here. Men and women, Strength and Weakness, emotions and logic. The trick is to understand both and use thrive full potential. Thereโs femininity in men, thereโs masculinity in women. Thereโs weakness in strength and thereโs strength in weakness.

2024-08-03 19:18:28 +0000 UTCfunny that you mentioned lost, its really underappreciated and the ending was taken the wrong way by a lot of people (who didnt understand what they were watching)- its my personal favorite show because of the characters- that being said its true that this theory exists but again its a dumb theory (if youve seen the show) and canonically false.

2024-08-03 17:59:28 +0000 UTCSo just to clarify the main reason that Saguri was so forgiving is because that Giant was essentially a child in a monsters body that is constantly hungry likely to his size. He hasn't developed and simply acts like a baby who just wants to be fed and play, but obviously he can't play with others without killing them. It's a tragic situation and that's why she is so forgiving.
Copycat
2024-08-03 17:50:02 +0000 UTCThe Giant was a problem for even Gabimaru, no wonder the two samurai easily fell. So far every Asaemon is competent in fights, unless they are against the giant. That giant probably had a curse cuz he couldn't stop feeling hungry. Once the hunger level is too high, he goes mad with red eyes, as he can't control himself any more. He was only 8 yrs old btw! Yep, that's a cursed baby. It's a 3 or 4 seasons long manga. Short enough.

2024-08-03 17:33:36 +0000 UTCGenji lost his stomach cuz he was busy arguing with Sagiri why she should be in the kitchen right now. xD Props to the guy for saving her tho. Pushed her outta way of Rokurota. Some viewers thought "the way they treat women is this show is disgusting ๐คฎ" not realising those were the times back then. Sagiri: "Imma take you down with strength and compassion"
