One of my favorite episodes! Mai’s “I love Zuko more than I fear you” line has deeper significance that I didn’t realize as a kid… Mai is also telling Azula that she fears her more than she loves her as a friend. It’s not “I love him more than I love you.” You can see something snap in Azula when she hears this for the first time. Her most positive, precious relationship was her bond with Mai and Ty Lee. But their loyalty was more similar to the loyalty that Azula and Zuko feel/felt for Ozai. It’s all built on fear, not love. Brilliant writing!!!

2024-08-06 17:13:46 +0000 UTCI know its hard to see sometimes, especially when it is your first watch, because the writers characterized her VERY subtle, but Azula has a lot of layers. Having watched this show a ton of times I would say I now understand Azula very well. And in my opinion she is the second most tragic character, after Aang, in the story. I am confident that you will see what I mean after you are done with the series in two weeks.

2024-08-02 07:05:06 +0000 UTCLol, during E14's attempt to get arrested, it reminded me of AoT's Eren vs Jean scene in the Cadet corp party. I was confusing the scenes and thinking Zuko and Chit Sang were gonna beat each other up and wonder why nobody was stopping them.

2024-08-02 06:51:37 +0000 UTCFor Chit Sang my theory is maybe his buds blamed him for screaming in the middle of the lake, they had a huge fight and a falling out. Maybe they were having a hard time with their relationship already; this was the last straw, and they weren't on speaking terms anymore. Are you going to watch the last 4 episodes in one go? I HIGHLY recommend you do that. Even if you put a week in between uploading the last 2 and the previous 2, I would say you should still watch them in one go, and just upload them separately. Although I wouldn't say no to receiving all 4 in one go either. :) I cannot imagine breaking those episodes apart and watching them separately.

2024-08-02 02:27:49 +0000 UTCAzula is such a complex picture of a golden child dynamic, when you guys finish the show you should read some of the follow-up comics because one of them in particular gives you more of her. I think Azula is very tragic in a way since she's a 14-year-old girl, she's so young, and yet she is treated like an adult, constantly wearing armor like a proper general. She's lost any semblance of a childhood she might have had when her mother left. There are lots of videos by 'Hello Future Me' that go into her psychology

2024-08-01 21:33:13 +0000 UTCI'm with Ange here. Yes, it was always in Azula's nature to be like that to some extent but in that flashback Ozai already was corrupting her. In their meeting with Azulon, Ozai told her to show him the new moves she demonstrated to him, meaning they spent a lot of time together back then already, just like Ursa did with Zuko. And the way Azula talked isn't normal for a little girl. She must have heard it from someone. We don't really know if Ursa didn't try to spend more time with her but it's very possible she did and Ozai didn't allow it because he already considered her the better heir to the throne. Not to say she deserves redemption but that's a layered tragic story right there.

2024-08-01 20:27:40 +0000 UTCRegarding the parenting, I kind of agree with Ange. From what I can tell, Zuko was a disappointment in his father's perspective. That's why he was horrible to him. His mother then paid more attention to him. This is in contrast with Azula. Since she's a prodigy, their father paid attention to her. Zuko was basically raised by their mom and Azula by their dad even when they're still all together.

Remember back in season 1 when Zuko infiltrated the Spirit Oasis at the North Pole through that frozen lake and got out alive thanks to his 'breath of fire' that Iroh reminded him. But, Iroh was the last outsider to learn from the dragons before that happened, so saying the dragons taught Zuko that technique isn't exactly wrong either.

I always laugh thinking back when I see them together. Also I think everyone agrees that we wanna see Iron again the anticipation makes it all the better.
