can't wait to rewatch My Hero w/ you guys, the first few seasons are definitely some of the best shounen anime episodes ever made. Horikoshi (the mangaka) IMO does a fairly good job in worldbuilding the world of MHA.

Same here, I cried too!!) The emotional beats and character writing are two of the things that stand out the most to me with MHA. So glad to see you both picking up some of the subtitles of how heroes and quirks are viewed by society already in these first two episodes. It's definitely something to pay attention to as you continue. As a manga reader, I'm really looking forward to watching along with you on your journey here, I think you'll love it!

I love you guys' reactions and you are definitely in for a treat with this show as yall are so good at reading and discussing/analyzing characters. Also thank you so much for watching the subbed version. I have watched both and it is actually one of the few anime where I could get through the dubbed but it just hits different in japanese especially specific characters such as in my opinion Bakugo it's just Nobuhiko Okamoto just puts his all. Actually in 2020 he did get surgery if I'm not mistaken and treatment for his throat but fully recovered he is just amazing. I am excited to rewatch and see yall go through this amazing show with many themes you will definitely enjoy. ALSO THE OP COVER IS CRAZZZYYYY I LOVE IT

It's just my preference to keep at least one classic shonen by my side and this was IT after Naruto,One piece and Bleach. Effort, friendship and victory. Some might find it childish but I think it's still pretty cool.

Not to plug other reactors, but specifically on MHA, I’ve found Yaboiroshi’s group to be one of the other channels that identify those messages and themes pretty well

As for the story, I see what you mean, there was definitely some aspects where I wish Horikoshi went a tad extra, but I’m overall satisfied with the message @Argonhta you’re valid with those thoughts. I don’t 100% agree that mha didn’t reinvent how shounen was written, since this is probably one of the first stories in modern-ish anime that have very realistic and relatable stories. As superhuman the world of mha is, its still rooted in western comics and regular life, and has had a lot of success because of it. Idk how far you are in the story, or if you have caught up to the manga, but all I’ll say is give it time to cook.

There are moments when it falls back a bit, but it's at the right moments, and very needed). I just like the dub voice actors and I feel the emotional moments hit even harder when they're in a language you can understand instead of having to read them. Also Chris Sabat the Vegeta and Armstrong voice actor is All Might's dub voice which is peak.

Not that I'm trying to pin any other reactors against each other, I just found often that some channels were lacking in appreciating the emotion, and only engaged with the action but I think you both compliment each other so well. I'm so overcome when it comes to emotionally moving scenes and soundtracks and watching you guys feels incredibly validating. Carlie's reaction to Midoriya running out was so similar to my own that I felt the magic of watching it for the first time again. I'm so excited for the journey of this show and re-experiencing it with you both. Some of the best quality reactors I've ever watched and I got into reactions years and years ago. I feel incredibly lucky to have discovered you guys through Arcane and then witness your journey here.

Chris Sabat is All nights voice in the dub, whenever you get fully caught up I'd maybe recommend doing a reaction to the top dub voice acting moments lol (I'd 100% stick with the sub though, I like everyone more in sub, the dub is still good though)

2024-07-14 17:34:54 +0000 UTC@Danny C not the op, but ill give my 2 cents. i started reading MHA when it was at like chapter 20, and felt it had a lot of potential to do something great within the shounen genre. Unforutnately to me it felt like it never rose up, and just kinda settled as a middle of the pack generic shounen that doesn't really do anything interesting or innovative, while also not having the characters to lift it up.

Also the jjk animator are being extremely overwork and awfully treated by the studio and If you read the manga you'll come to understand it's not peak shonen and the author is basicly completly lost in his own story.

I'm 33 so I grew up with old anime like DBZ and I must admit that MHA really reminds me of the old Shonen vibes. The story is pretty "classic" but it's really well done and I love all the emotional moments throughout the serie. Can't wait for the next episodes 😊. Thank you guys for this ♥️
