I Azula try multiple times and so did Iroh. He gave her gifts and tried to reach out but Ozai just had his clutches on Azula. It was clear he favored her and “loved” her for being smart and a genius and ultimately Ozzie wanted the power and was ready to sacrifice his own son or kill his own father. All the fault is in Ozai he was awful and transform azula into a little version of him

it's the same as asking, why one child inherited sth that the other one didn't. Genes don't work deterministically

I find it hilarious when people say that the reveal about Roku being Zuko's grandpa explains a lot of Zuko's motivations when Azula shares the exact same ancestry. How does it apply to her? Or is Zuko the special chosen grandchild? Zuko may lament about being "lucky to be born" but he's the one everyone keeps reaching out to, the one his mother and uncle both gave their love and attention to while Azula got their psychopath of a dad. I think how Azula has turned out is absolutely on Zuko's mom and Iroh too -- giving up on a child so young as a lost cause is pretty terrible if you think about it. Perhaps Azula isn't redeemable like Zuko, but we haven't even seen anyone really try like they do with Zuko. Or perhaps, having the same ancestry, she also has the capacity to either be good or evil. Zuko's the white yang (with a small dark spot) while Azula's the black yin (with a small white spot).
