Regarding your final conversation about the Fire Nation perspective. You have to remember that even Zuko doesn't know if Aang is alive or not. Zuko has the knowledge that it is *MAYBE* possible, because Katara had some special water from the North Pole that even she said she wasn't sure what it was capable of. He is, similar to how Aang was shown in this episode, overstressing about the possibility of him being alive and ruining his name again. Regarding Azula, what we know is that she has manipulated the situation that *if somehow* the Avatar ever pops up again she won't be blamed for it. But she also literally struck him with lightning, and she has no actual reason to believe he's alive... except, possibly, picking up on Zuko's anxiety.
