I know im late lol but i think its good writing because Alicent doesnt understand love IMO. her version of love is dark and twisted harsh and cold. She very much cares for her boyys and will protect them at all cost but when they need help as her dad did she says deal with it on your own as she had to. She might think it makes them stronger because thats how she grew up. Protecting your children from death and giving them a shoulder to cry on are two completely different things. It doesnt mean she doesnt love him. At least thats how im interpreting all of it lol

The Blacks are like the quintessential good guys right now, almost perfect, except for Daemon. You're telling me that it makes sense that in S1 Alicent was ready to defy her King in order to get justice for her blinded son, was willing to die shielding her son from a dragon, but now chooses to shag Criston instead of even touching Aegon on the shoulder while he's crying?

2024-06-25 20:10:41 +0000 UTCThe writers aren’t “demonizing” team green. Alicent isn’t perfect. She has flaws. Two different truths can exist mutually. Alicent can love her children. True. She can also not be a good mother. Also true. She never was! Season One in Episode 4. When she is holding her child while they were screaming and hollering she is stoic and patting their back. She never knew how to comfort her kids. When her child is screaming and crying she hands them to the maids. It’s shown VERY early she isn’t the “best” mother. Using the “bad” writing excuse is a cope and I expected better from you guys. The characters are SUPPOSED to be gray. Alicent has good and bad traits. Rhaenyra has good and bad traits.

Otto often sounds careless and it can be off putting, but I ultimately think he's trying to secure a brighter future for the people he cares about. Do the ends justify the means? Probably not. I just think he is one of the more noble ones, even if his actions aren't always so. I also think it's possible that Alicent is not being painted to be a bad mother here. Maybe I'm interpreting this wrong, but I think Carlie was initially right in saying that Aegon needed to calm himself down. I think this has the potential to be the beginning of that, and I think that Alicent wanted him to sit with it and hopefully come to understand the consequences of the rash decisions he's been making. I could definitely be wrong, maybe he was just crying over the loss of his child (which is perfectly reasonable and would make sense). We'll see what happens.

In season 1, when Aemond lost an eye, she was losing her shit, and wanted to take out the eye of Rhaenyra's son. Obviously, that's wrong, but that shows you how deeply she cares about her children. When Rhaenys crashed Aegon's coronation with her dragon, there's a scene where Alicent puts herself in front of Aegon to shield him from the dragon. That tells me that she really loves her children. Even in this episode, we saw her crying for Helaena. I don't think it's in character for Alicent to be a bad mother. Anyway, we finally got a mention of Daeron. It's safe to talk a bit about him now since he's been mentioned. As Otto said, Daeron is Alicent's 4th child. He's in Oldtown. I think the showrunners should have mentioned him earlier in season 1, so that his introduction wouldnt have been like a huh? moment to show-only audience, but it is what it is. At least we know that he's not been cut from the show.

To give some grace to Alicent her mother died while she was young and the only example she had was Otto. I don’t think she actually “knows” what real love is. Hence this disgusting relationship she has with Cole.

I really liked Alicent until this point and could sympathize with her position but not after the repeated neglect she shows to her children in grief. I get it that Otto was not affectionate but, Alicent has done nothing to break that wheel with her kids this episode.
