Well the election also just offers up more world building and intrigue into the hunter association as well which was pretty underdeveloped up until now in terms of actual details on how it functions. Like there's a lot of implications behind how someone like pariston can run things the way he does when netero was so powerful and yet still wanted someone like pariston around for fun. I think their tastes just skews more traditional anime story beats/plotting. The alluka arc, aside from being a pretty big ass-pull features the more traditional anime emotional beats (killua wants to save him from harm, love is going to motivate to do the right thing etc.). It's pretty meh for a hxh arc, which is only saved by the somewhat interesting mechanic alluka has, but even that has some issues which ties back to the above 'love is important' stuff.
