I just wanted to clarify something although you guys are way past this by now. Luffy doesn't actually know Sanji's backstory or anyone from his crew for that matter. The flashback for Sanji was happening in his head because he was concussed from getting hit. All Luffy knows is that Sanji keeps saying Zeff saved his life and that is it. In the manga when he makes this argument they have a quick panel showing Shanks saving Luffy, so that is what he is thinking about when he talks about how to repay someone saving you.
