Full Moon Bay is a actually a reference to the California beach Half Moon Bay in America. Funnily enough I actually frequented Half Moon Bay when I was younger, so it was really cool to see it reference here.

But rewatching the current set of episodes as an older wiser person really somehow amplified my opinion of ATLA. The writing carries so much wisdom and heart I never understood or appreciated before.

After all, she and Aang are both 12 and while Sokka is older and a smart and responsible leader when he needs to be, he's still too unreliable sometimes, especially when it comes to emotional support, which is one of Katara's best traits. She definitely improved on her good qualities and tuned down a bit her bad ones this season, partially because she realized she now has 2 kids in the group expansible to 3 when Sokka's out there doing dumb shit like licking walls and cacti ๐คฃ. Even though they're all still kids, of course.

It's so sad to see Aang so broken up over Appa, because as the audience, we love Appa too and we know how much Appa means to him. It's his childhood companion, his best friend and even though Aang being upset with everyone is probably the wrong way to handle this, it's completely understandable. We know he doesn't mean it, we know he just deeply cares for Appa. Also, Toph's blind jokes kill me LMAO

2024-06-08 00:30:16 +0000 UTCin this grouping of episodes, I actually like the Drill episode. only because the writers didn't have to go so deep in detail into the mechanism of the drill. the fact that they put in the effort to show how larger drills work in real life by using water to help move the rock out of the drills head and that they had a slurry line to pass it out the back really didn't need to be in the episode to get the story across. but it tells me just how good the writers are by adding little details in their work. I mean, showing Iroh with steaming tea in the background before Jet focused on the tea is just good stuff.

And with Aang losing his best friend, his last piece of home (along with Momo, but Appa is an OG for him haha), it's so distressing to see what that does to him poor boy I also love thinking about Toph's shocked face when Aang goes into the Avatar state. She can't see, and has never experienced him like this - what must be going through her head when she hears the sudden POWER in his voice and feels the wind pick up, and then Sokka rushing her a little away from Aang??? And then Katara just gently bringing him back, her holding back her own tears as Aang finally lets himself cry and be comforted a little - MY HEART And now we begin the Missing Appa arc *sobs*
