O.P Eps 18 and 19 REACTION!

The anime did the backstory better

O.P Eps 18 and 19 REACTION!

It’s still good in the LA, but it’s definitely not exactly the same. There’s more emotion, entirely different scenes and dialogue, superb voice acting and scene set up. The LA is fine don’t misunderstand me. But just because the bare bones of the story are the same doesn’t make them equally as good. Small example Zoro’s Sensei giving him Kuina’s sword. Zoros speech about wanting it and his name reaching the heavens isn’t in the LA. It’s fine that it’s different and I liked the LA you don’t need to defend it. But the anime just does it better, you will hear that from the majority of people. The Original being better is quite normal and still doesn’t mean the LA is bad.

I’m so on board with this, as much as I thought that the LA was decent and the casting good. The zoro in the live action was definitely too stuck up, he had no sense of humour.

Super Novice

The back story is literally the exact same as the live action tho I don't get it

RunAwayCloak

you just cant help yourself can you

Glad Tidings

there just has to be more coming, we dont really know anything about his life

Ghedo

ASSHOLE! Why are so many anime fans so incredibly dumb? You try to seem clever or funny, but you just have to spout shit that leads or spoil. Absolutely no discipline.

Rockstar

Don’t feel bad, the anime is superior to the live action especially in emotional moments. Doesn’t mean the live action wasn’t good, it was but the anime just hits different. No shade to the LA though :) they had to cram a lot into a short series.

Ange: is the One Piece even real? One of the best dads in One Piece: The One Piece… Is real!!!!

there’s a difference between toned down and giving a totally different personality to the character. you can’t tell me zoro wasn’t a completely different person but with the same green hair. i’m not saying they should cartoonishly drop their jaws to the ground and act over the top. there are traits that can translate well, zoro doesn’t have to be a stuck up bitch all the time (pardon my french) he can still joke around and show emotions other than being monotonous and bored all the time

greyxwaren

The LA versions were toned down, because if they acted like their anime counter parts, they would come off as caricatures. Some things just don't translate from cartoon to live action. It was a smart choice to offer more grounded versions of the characters, considering how successful was the show among non anime viewers.

Everyone interprets it differently, but I think how Kuina died and how it is then said that people can die easily, really affects Zoro character in how he sees death and how he knows it can come every time. Oda could just have a villain kill Kuina so that Zoro couldnt save her. Then he would want to be the strongest. But this death is really uncommon, especially in One Piece. And the reason why Zoro wants to be the best swordsman or in general a swordsman is I would say innate, in the way that some people just want to be the best in something

no shade to the LA but the backstory scene literally just felt like two people delivering lines, there was no emotions whatsoever. the same can be said about mackenyu (zoro's adult actor) yes he looks the part but his line delivery was really weak (which i found shocking since i've seen clips of him performing at japanese musicals and he had RANGE) he for some reason chose the "very cool and stoic" approach when performing as zoro which is odd considering how we're introduced to zoro in the first place. he's goofy, serious when needed to be and very stupid. same can be said about nami's actress, yes nami isn't fully on board with the crew yet but she doesn't show it until she takes off with our ship going into arlong park which added to our shock and surprise. the LA made her resentful from the get go no moments of light hearted banter no "greedy nami behaviours" the characterizations of the LA in general were not spot on, even with the sanji (y'all will see for yourselves so i will not go into details) they all felt like fanfiction versions of their original source. crazy how fictional characters feel more real than real people lol

greyxwaren

this tbh yes it's done better in the anime but it still falls short especially as you meet more characters

greyxwaren

as someone who's caught up with the manga that question has me sweating profusely lmao

greyxwaren

So sad that Kuina fell "Down D. Stairs" 😭😭. That villain literally pushed zoro to get a complete beast.

tris273

Just remember don’t compare it to the live action because they cut characters and brought characters who were not meant to be there but way later won’t give examples

eduardo jaimes

If you think the anime did this backstory better, wait till you see Nami's in the anime 🤣😭🔥

SomeoneElse

Also Oda has answered the question about "is the One Piece just the friends we made along the way" or something and he has said that is not something he likes so it will definitely not be that

fr0st

anime backstories are far better bc better voice actors, the soundtrack and they take a lot of time progressing the story. zoro's back story was rlly short and rlly rushed everything and lacked a lot of the emotional aspect, all bc the actors were just kids that can't act that well lol. that being said, zoro having the weakest backstory says everything about the others you're about to see

gee

No shade on the live action, it was a good show, but the backstories hit so much harder in the anime imo. Zoro probably has the weakest one of the crew, can't wait for nami's arc, that was the one I felt the anime had much better details for.

Leo

Zoro is after Luffy my favorite but in my opinion he has the "weakest" backstory of all members. Its not bad but its not great either.

Sikk Karuzo

Ange remembered a patreon discussion on how Kuina really died and couldn't believe it. Yeah, in manga (chapter 5) the reason was same that she fell down the stairs but the difference = Kuina's corpse was shown. It's just an anime thing that they omit things for young audience like Luffy scarring his face (too brutal for kids) and there's also notable difference in Sanji's backstory.

josephocenada

I think Zoro's backstory is one of the greatest. It's so understated but needlessly cruel. Zoro is a man of action, making Kuina's death so ordinary it takes away anyway for Zoro to grieve or avenge her except to power on toward their promised goal

DandyZombie

really enjoyed this glad to re experience one piece with you guys

ertuひ

Zoro's backstory is the weakest in the series imo. Shows you how great the backstories are.

Vidilian

I'm really loving the fun facts/trivia read after the episodes that's a cool addition you guys do. You'll see soon that Luffy doesn't even need the stretchy bits to get all the waifus :)

DietPop

"Is the One Piece real?" 😬 For someone who just finished the Marineford arc that question hits differently

Ezile Xozwa

Oda be bullshitting a lot so maybe he was when he said that.

John Paul

Probably because he's the best character (Sarcasm, in case it's not obvious)

Brian Sexton

Gaimon is one Oda's favorite characters. I have no idea why, but he said it in an interview.
