Actually, one of the biggest things I was looking forward to when re-watching Avatar is to experience Uncle Iroh's presence and wisdom again. Not disappointed at all. Great pick-up on how the writers must've intended and wrote Iroh in to be a great role model and mentor for the young audience watching. Makes perfect sense but I never considered that before.

She looks down everyone else as either tools to be used, insects to crush, or obstacles to be removed.

I think it's any strong emotions are the key to bending fire, like ambition, love, pride, anger, sorrow, desire, greed, purpose etc. If you look at Johng Johng and Iroh it's definitely not rage fueling their bending.

2024-05-31 01:04:09 +0000 UTCazula is one of my favorite representations of insanity in media, i love her lolπ. i wish i could hug uncle iroh tooπ that man looks like the fluffiest being out there the last bit of ep 9 never fails to make me cry "you've always thrown everything you could at me, well i can take it, and now i can give it back!" up until this point, zuko has seen power as an instrument to prove his value, he doesn't want to learn how to redirect lightning because it's helpful and that could save his life, he wants to learn because by doing it he's proving to people around him that he's strong and reliable. he finds purpose in his "identity", and he unfortunately thinks his identity relies on his position. no matter how much uncle iroh tries to bathe him in love and acceptance, zuko will always be fixated in this way of thinking, since in his mind he's worth something by following the destiny his father assigned to him, so far, his journey is the saddest one, at least to me

We'll get more on that later, but as he said in this episode, most firebending is done by channeling rage, and clearly Iroh doesn't power his that way.

2024-05-30 23:32:50 +0000 UTCI always found the Zuko storm scene to be extra sad because over the past couple episode we see him get humbled a lot and basically being told he isnβt good enough. Even with Iroh, Zuko learned the technique to redirect lightning and got praise, but he still wouldnβt hit him with lightning, almost like he didnβt believe he could redirect it. So the storm not striking him was basically the universe adding on to this inadequacy, which is so depressing lol. Loved these past couple episodes, and loved the reaction/discussion π

In 2x8, it's so heartwarming that Iroh decides to follow Zuko, just so that if Zuko is in trouble or needs someone again, he'll be able to be there for him. Zuko is incredibly fortunate to have someone like that in his life, even if he hadn't recognized that just yet. I also really liked Toph's line at the end of the conversation, "About your nephew, maybe you should tell him that you need him too". Iroh has no response to this, which leads me to believe that it resonated with him.

Itβs really cool. They put a lot of thought into the fighting styles of this show, especially considering itβs meant to be for kids lol. Iroh explaining the value of drawing wisdom from different places by looking at different cultures as an example is such a great way to introduce this concept.

2024-05-30 19:23:55 +0000 UTCBook 2 start to show you exactly why avatar is such a beloved series for many people, it goes over just a kid show from here on out Edit: Favorite soup is chicken soup lol As the show keeps going you will see how each character refine themselves with their bending (and not bending too), the moment with toph being selfish is more about her not liking people taking care of her cause her blindness and it takes it to the extreme (we too as audience tend to forget she is blind by how powerful and awesome she is) Zuko/Aang paralel is the highlight everytime it happens cause you can see 2 opposite trying to get things right in different ways, Iroh is best dad of the series and you need to fight me otherwise
