Ohhhh right, of course 🤣 we’re waiting for it to release on streaming services

Carlie & Ange

Zuko is probably the most compelling character in the show so it’s no surprise that episodes that focus on him are broad fan favorites. The Storm, Zuko Alone, etc.

Graham

I think you're right that she never had a chance, but it is interesting that even before Zuko's banishment, when they had the same exact upbringing, Azula was already such a menace lol. Interesting nature vs. nurture kinda thing going on. Like despite Ursa's best efforts to be a good mother to both Zuko and Azula, you see that even she in this episode is like "what is wrong with that child??" Definitely some underlying mental health issues as well, as you said.

Hunter Snider

Could be a hot take, but I think Zuko Alone is straight up the best episode of the show. There are moments that are more epic, more iconic for sure, but in terms of emotional and thematic impact told in a succinct 22 minutes... for me, it's Zuko Alone.

Hunter Snider

Azula may be a huge B but she’s also 14, and grew up in the Fire Nation Royal Family. Like, she really didn’t have a chance. Zuko getting exiled was traumatic for him obviously but it was clearly good for his personal growth to be away from that environment. Azula meanwhile was completely inculcated in it and is basically the embodied ideal of the Fire Nation citizen. Although there’s clearly some underlying mental health issues too. Like it’s hard to look past her ruthlessness and occasional scene-chewing villainy, but she is also ultimately a victim as well.

Graham

I mean the movie 😂 sorry for the misunderstanding haha cause its first day yesterday in cinemas

Ayn Orbuda

Its actually our favourite anime that we’ve covered on the channel! 😅 you can find our reactions here or on youtube

Carlie & Ange

Same here 😂

Alexis

Literally me rn 😂 I don’t know why but their reactions just hit different

Floch

Still waiting for 8 and 9 :(

MO

Sorry guys, different anime, but have you watched Haikyuu today?

Ayn Orbuda

Azula is horrible but I do think her father knew of her potential and made it his mission to make her his pawn idk it just makes me sad :(

David H

I know. I'm kidding xD

KaijinGarou

I have a hunger for Avatar reactions that only Carlie & Ange can fill 🙏🏼

MikeyMike

Thanks legend ❤️ really appreciate the kind words and all of your support for so long now!!

Carlie & Ange

Y’all are hands down my favorite reactors. Your take on shows and reactions are just filled with genuine investment and care that it makes me happy you get to experience this beloved show ❤️

Santos Luna Ramirez

I agree, but like i said, they might want to plan accordingly to ensure that.

Nate Terry

One of the better Zuko episodes. He really shines in this season.

CornCobBob

Since everyone got on me for a potential spoiler I would just reccomend reading The Search comic in the Avatar series for more background info on Zuko. Just read all of them really, they're really good :)

kel011

this is a Spoiler

Vanessa Campbell

I agree with Jason, this this portion is just left open for interpretation. It's also not impossible to deduce if you think about it for a bit.

Gabriel Barott

Iroh would’ve made a good Fire Lord

KC

This episode didn't hit me as hard as it did for me now, back when I watched it in 2015(?). This episode is so good, but I didn't appreciate the depth and care and complexities it tackled. There was so much wisdom and life lessons in this episode I never fully realized or appreciated back then. Definitely one of my favourite episodes now in any medium. Growing older and experiencing more stuff and BS in life really does change your perspective. I always knew this was the case, but when it happens to you it really hits like a truck.

JN

Nah. He knows emotional scars and wounds and trauma exists that people don't like opening up about to those they don't trust.

JN

"Left for interpretation" is not a spoiler. They clearly understood the whole turtle duck mom thing at the beginning. They're not dumb. It's ok to say they're right.

Jason Serrano

Just because that’s something they suspected doesn’t mean you should confirm their suspicion

Amit

Nah man this is a spoiler, it’s left up for interpretation until a certain point in the show

Amit

Definitely a spoiler

Amit

I’d elaborate further, but I’d be spoiling more things myself 😅

Gabriel Barott

This comment may be a slight spoiler.

Gabriel Barott

This episode has so many amazing things about it. It's so great at providing us with a lot of background to Zuko's story (and other key Fire Nation characters, as you guys pointed out). My heart always breaks for little Zuko when I see his facial expressions, directly after Ozai's coronation when he learns that he's in large part been left alone in this toxic and brutal environment, with his father and sister. Obviously Iroh eventually comes back from war, but at least for a time we have to imagine that with Zuko no longer having his mother, probably felt very trapped :(

Gabriel Barott

It'd be a good idea to watch those two back to back though

KaijinGarou

Yeah, I'd advise to be mindful about episodes 12 and 13. Not sure what medium you guys are using but they kinda combined them into one long episode. ...just a helpful tip for logistical purposes if you guys have time constraints and can't watch that many in one setting.

Nate Terry

kel011

would u guys be able to react to one extra episode this week [4 episodes instead of 3] - it'll be better for the flow considering the next few episodes :)

Yara

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Yara

Ur one of the few who picked up that it was the mom who killed The Firelord.

Jason Serrano

My theory is that Azulon's intent of "You will know the pain of losing your first born" was going to be giving Iroh guardianship of Zuko (and placing Zuko above his father in line of succession), but as soon as he heard the words, Ozai immediately responded "Kill Zuko? Sure, no problem."

Craig Payne

"It'd be messed-up if Azula was lying". Opposite to her not lying and her grandfather actually asking her father to kill her brother 🤣. Nah, I got what you were saying but it's funny when you put it like this xD.

KaijinGarou

I'm with Carlie about Lee's dad. He seems like a good dad but is too fixated on privacy. I bet you he has a secret second family somewhere 🤣

KaijinGarou

Toph's voice actress, Michaela Jill Murphy, actually was reacting to Avatar on her YT channel recently, if you're intrigued at any point.

KaijinGarou

This episode takes a lot of inspiration from old samurai stories and movies, in particular Yojimbo. Many of these stories also inspired much of the western movie genre, which is why this episode has a very Clint Eastwood-esque vibe to it.

James Jones

Braille doesn't exist in the Avatar universe, Carlie, and neither it did in the IRL epoch it represents. We're not letting you get away with this, sorry 🤣

KaijinGarou

Crap, I saw 1 episode and thought it was one of the edits of the previous bunch haha. No, no, this I must watch now.

KaijinGarou

When is the hxh upload?

Arian

You guys are superheroes 🦸‍♂️❤️

Maya Coleman

Let's goooo this is one of the best episodes of book 2 imo 🔥
