@EmJay, that fan theory was more than just a speculation because it is based on japanese "saying" where "falling down the stairs" meaning taking one owns life. But that saying in itself is not confirmed, just something people say so its hearsay at best which is why theory fell off (pun not intended)

2024-05-30 12:13:30 +0000 UTCJohnny and Yosaku are actually part of the original story, so no filler here. The anime also fills out some parts of the manga, which sometimes are just implied and at other times it complements by introducing extra scenes. Johnny simply was left out of the LA.

2024-05-29 15:02:09 +0000 UTCThe anime and the LA series differ in many aspects. which was also clear with only 8 episodes. for example Several characters were deleted that were not directly relevant to the story, such as: carrot, onion and pepper.

2024-05-29 13:53:12 +0000 UTCTo make the scene with Zorro a little sadder: If I remember correctly, in the manga from the beginning Zorro only used the 2 sword style, not the 3 sword style like in the anime, he only used it after Kuina's death. Since Kuina can no longer keep the promise, Zoro thought I would use my 2 sword style plus her 1 sword style and make it a 3 sword style. It was never confirmed that this was Zorro's motivation, but I like that idea.

2024-05-29 13:53:06 +0000 UTCSo they do start the One Piece anime off the same way in a sense. In the first opening they have narration and Gold Roger's words on the day of his execution. In fact, the first 47 episodes have that narration and speech in the iconic first Opening "We are!" and the opening monologue of the op is as follows: "Wealth, fame, power. Gold Roger, the King of the Pirates, attained everything this world has to offer. The words he uttered just before his death drove countless people to the seas. 'My treasure? If you want it, you can have it! Find it! I left everything this world has to offer there!' And so men head for the Grand Line in pursuit of their dreams. The world has truly entered a great pirate era."

2024-05-29 10:02:08 +0000 UTCAfter watching/reading Wizard of Oz as a child Oda said that he was so mad they didn't end up with anything in the end. He found that unacceptable and vowed the One Piece would be a proper treasure worthy of Luffy's great adventure.

2024-05-29 07:27:02 +0000 UTCTHIS! I've always maintained that it was a typo, but I've never seen anyone else point it out.

2024-05-29 07:20:37 +0000 UTCThe only real translation of Kuro's attack that I'll accept is "Out of the Bag Attack". Which is a play on Kuro being a cat and thus letting him out of the bag.

2024-05-29 01:44:44 +0000 UTCMan the fact that Usopp always yelled about pirates coming is because he wanted his dad to be coming home always hits me like a truck.

2024-05-29 00:47:51 +0000 UTCI always think back to the Superman movie where his (Earth) father dies of a heart attack and it's so poignant because, for all his powers, Clark couldn't save him. Sometimes, things are just beyond anyone's control. Kuina's death has a similar ring to it: it was sudden and .... ordinary. She didn't die in battle, or heroically rescuing someone. She didn't even die in Zoro's presence. He didn't even get to say goodbye. One moment she was there, and the next she was gone from his life and nothing could be done about it. I remember initially some fans speculating that it would be revealed that she'd actually taken her own life out of despair of being held back because she was a girl. But that's just it. It was nothing more than a misfortune. Just a tragic household accident. She had ambitions to become the greatest swordsman, but life IS just that cruel that even the most inspiring people can be cut down by something as mundane as a fall.

2024-05-28 21:56:13 +0000 UTCThank you! Some people get so hung up on how "meaningless" her death is that they start tainting all the reasons for such a death by thinking up theories to save her. It's far more impactful that she had such an ordinary end. I've seen a few people claim that it would've been better if she died in a fight or by a pirate attack but they miss the point there too. Zoro's unyielding strive for his goal is a direct result of him having no other way to do something for Kuina. he cant get vengeance for her, all he can do is become the world's greatest swordsman as they promised since obviously she can't anymore.

2024-05-28 20:22:21 +0000 UTCPeople who are like "no she can't die a stupid way because plot armor" are missing the point. What Oda's saying, and what Zoro's learning here, is that no matter how strong or ambitious you are, it can be cut short at any point because human lives are fragile. Both Zoro and Luffy have this philosophy of putting their life on the line for the sake of their dream, which comes from understanding that the world doesn't wait for you and can take everything away at any time. Kuina dying a random meaningless death is crucial in Zoro's story and his own relationship with death. We've already seen, and will continue to see, Zoro just refuses to die, pushing well past the points it should be possible to. This is why Zoro is my GOATπ
