Well unlike Oda they had way less time to give characters the ability to see Luffy be free and then chose to follow his example, Luffy saying what his actions allude to doesn't need his characters different. Just means they had very little time to demonstrate one of One Piece core principles

For me it is not just the justice thing. Luffy tells people like zoro, sanji, koby that they should be free and doing what they want in the live action. And I thought that was really annoying especially when he was saying always the same. I think luffy doesnt act like that in the manga at all. He is so free that people around him just feel like they should following him and they do it because they decide to do it. I think it breaks his character to argue with them whether they should do what they want. For me they let luffy say out loud the intention of his character, which is especially not the intention of his character

Idk I mean he never says in the Live Action that he's doing it for justice or anything, his explanation every time is "We shared a meal" or "You fed us" which does track with Luffy's personality and character-driven motivations. Even in Arlong Park they had Luffy more upset for Nami than injustice. His ending speech to Arlong could be interpreted as 'doing it for justice' but Luffy not liking bully's is well documented, it doesn't change the fact that he mostly only got involved because someone he liked needed help. I think the biggest miss with characterization was episode two where Luffy says he can talk to Buggy pirate to pirate and not everything can be solved with violence. As manga and anime updated people know he is supposed to be taught that later by a certain girl on Drum (trying not to spoil anyone lol)

that little edit at 18:40 reminds me, these two should really react to Death Note!

But I think this concept becomes only really clear after about half of one piece. Its more about his free will. Also I think in the netflix adaptation luffy is really out of character when interacting with other characters and his overall characterisation was a big miss for me. You just have to look at the interaction with him and coby in the live action to notice that these are really different characters even for an adaptation. Sorry for bad english

First off, LMAO at pussy feet of Justice/Seduction! I love Kuro's flashback! It's the very first time I started to see a lot of intentionality in Oda's writing. It isn't obvious it's Morgan (and it certainly wouldn't be in any another anime where everyone's face is the same style) but the comment about his shattered jaw and the chin that matches his son's, Helmeppo is A+ writing/design and seeds the idea just enough without showing off the cleverness. OP is full of gems like this. Details matter in the long run. How perfect is it that the feat that launched the career of this man, so full of himself, was built upon a lie. No wonder he's trying so hard to make everyone tell him he's great. Somewhere deep down he knows the truth. Also, in the live action, you can see scars on Morgan's arms that look like they could be from Kuro's claws.

yeah especially they are doing less than them 15 to 19 episodes in 1 month... wait, you and them (i wish) gonna hear haikyuu within me = MOU IKKAI! MOU IPPON! XD

josephocenada

loke_Noke

I also like Blue Lock and I recall my sub reached halfway through it... I actually waited them to start One Piece since they officially announced that time that they're gonna watch it. I believe I'm actually the one who convinced them during their poll on what to watch next ;) I told them that BOLDcast is watching it like one episode a day (2 episodes every 2 days) also funny that dichotomized Naruto fanboys tried to play it down but I prevailed haha... can't wait for them to reach episode 227+ or where BOLDcast is currently (episode 232) we're hype as f waiting for them to upload lmao

josephocenada

oh cool am with you xd but i never unsubbed cus they watched blue lock after haikyuu double good shows i like blue lock wayy more tho (manga is amazing) but haikyuu is good!

loke_Noke

I resubbed for One Piece since Haikyuu! though I really wish Ange to stay away from his trading cards so it will make him somehow unsullied/unspoiled... characters getting revealed is one of the highlights of storytelling in One Piece

To correct you a little, Luffy doesn’t fight for justice, he just wants to be the pirate king. His goal, and the other characters goal has never been to save others and to fight for justice. They are pirates not saints. They aren’t evil but they aren’t angles that want to save the world. They fight the villain and might save ppl along the way not for justice but bc if it concerns a friend or if it will give Luffy a chance to fight someone strong he will. Even if somethjng bad is happening they will walk by it, unless it concerns them. So just remember, they’re goal has never been to save the world or save ppl, they have personal goals and they care for each other, but at the end of the day they wont just save random ppl for no reason, and they won’t just help ppl for justice. They aren’t villains but as a reminder, luffys goal has never been to save the world and to make the world better. His goal is to be the pirate king. In the live action they made him more of a character that fights for justice, but in the anime hes more neutral. He isn’t evil but if it doesn’t concern him, overall he won’t get involved at all snd he doesn’t really care. He’ll only get involved if his friends or someone he cares about needs help or if it means to fight someone strong. And if the type of help there friend needs is to fight a random person or to save the ppl his friends care for then he’ll do it. But he doesn’t really care for justice or anything like that, he’s just living his life and wants be the pirate king.

In general, in the Anime the characters act stronger than the LA, and there is more variety to their combat moves, but considering the obvious reasons, they still did a great job in the LA. They simply made the characters more ‘human’ indeed. Can’t wait for you to meet Sanji and then all the Arlong’s situation :-)

BashaM

FYI at 22:37 you accidently showed Ange's crew a 2nd time instead of Carlie's

Zack

Lol Luffy isn't exactly fighting for justice. He likes Usopp so he's helping. Thats his reasoning. Sure Kuro pisses him off but he isn't fighting cause of justice
