Episode 127 @40:35 Lol I guess we all thought of Armin there, those of us who saw AOT first. EDIT: LOL I saw a comment elsewhere discussing this episode: "use the injection on him"

JN

Ohhh yeah that makes more sense. I’m sure that’s something that could happen once the actual “war” dies down.

The Great Santini

i finally caught up :") great discussions

Brendan C

Thats a cool detail!

Carlie & Ange

yep there's a reason why Togashi is called "your favorite mangaka's favorite mangaka"

Astor Lefflinker

the writing in this arc is incredible. pure master class from togashi the scene when Meruem first felt fear in his life. He realized he wasn't declaring war on an inferior species whilst holding ultimate power, he realized he was picking a fight with a collective race of creatures who have the potential to do horrible, unimaginable things to themselves and everything around them as a means to their ends, when facing a threat. Meruem wasn't afraid when he saw Netero displaying bloodlust, he was afraid after he realized that the old man was willing to activate something so terrifying just to kill the King. The ants thought they could beat humanity using cruelty and malevolence, but they didn't know just how outclassed they were in that field by us. This "victory" that Netero achieved wasn't celebrated with happy cheers and clapping. It was a show... of just how capable we humans were of doing the impossibly evil when put up against danger. the ending scene where netero's eyes are shown like an ant and the king's eyes show human emotion is truly peak writing. it portrays Meruem becoming more humane, while Netero unleashing his inner monster.

Normal shounen: Maybe The Real Treasure Was the Friends We Made Along the Way HXH: Maybe The Real Enemy Was Us

souma shou

you have to remember that netero is'nt even half as strong as he was in his prime when he was young. Current old netero is not in the top 5 nen users but in his prime he could arguably be the strongest and would have definitely put more of a fight

souma shou

it was actually inspired by hxh. gege is a big hxh fan

souma shou

Just love the detail, that Netero flips off Meruem as he unleashes his zero hand :D

I think Ange was referring to people in the anime themselves giving respect for the sacrifice Netero made. I'd argue that episode-wise, yeah, Netero has a great build-up, but of course it's nice to see people in-universe react to it as well.

Jonah van Kerkhof

Dude. Decrepit Netero with his blacked-out eyes is one of the COOLEST fucking things I've ever seen in anime. This arc is by no means perfect (I agree with most of Ange's complaints) but the Netero vs Muruem fight and, well, what happens next are peak anime, IMO. PS Ange: Was there not enough respect shown to Netero just judging from the fight and the history episode they gave him? Short and sweet is always best.

The Great Santini

Episodes ago, Netero told that Meruem was struggling between his human and ant's side, and that it was incompatible. Some people think Netero was unreasonable by refusing to talk with Meruem, but Netero was wise and Meruem was an idealist kid. Every idea Meruem had, Netero knew they were doomed and naive. Ants never stood a chance. If humans wanted to stop them, they would nuke entier countries to stop them. The Hunters are just there to stop them without resorting to the humans weapons. And Netero knew that. Humans are the real monsters and no strenght, no training, no genetic heritage could have faced the harsh truth of the world. The added comment from Narrator-san that made ALL the sense is that the bomb was by no mean special. It wasnt one of a kind, it wasnt the biggest, it wasnt made for that. No. Its a random small nuke that terrorist can have... so its very easy to understand there are FAR more dangerous weapon in humans arsenals... Remember how Hunter world is accustomed to violence and death ? (People dying during the Hunter Exams and no one cared, Gon laughed and smiled when Killua killed a man by ripping his heart out) That these bombs are stocked in a bunker by thousands does not surprise me a single second. This is a f. up place made by the f. up human race. Meruem learned the good things of humans in a week. Netero learned the bad things of humans in a life.

Maxime Goettelmann

next episode is the real peak

Astor Lefflinker

The reaction of the next episode will be legendary. I can't wait to see that

WodanarFogala

Humans can be very very benign and kind but when they have malice and hatred they mean it. Notice how both Pitou and Meruem are becoming human and Netero and Gon are being overpowered by their negative emotions thus becoming more “monstrous”. Love the irony.

Jesus Rocha

One of my favourite details is how they consistently use roses and flowers as a motif for dying/death in the battles during the invasion, including with Shoot bleeding and the near-death experience with Knuckle. Planting the seeds for the miniature rose early on, you could say. And of course, can’t forget about the first use of a flower = bomb, with the Bomber/Genthru’s ability ‘Little Flower’.

Leah

If you think about it. Netero was prepared to sacrifice the other hunters along with the 5m people near the palace if the King didn't agree to go to another place.

Astor Lefflinker

"I'm not sure I can accomplish this mission without sacrificing someone..." "We will use any means necessary" -Netero

Astor Lefflinker

"Hey, cursed spirit. There's no way you don't understand this. Arms are just decorations. The act of applause is an acclamation of the soul!" -Todo (JJK) after losing his hand "Ant King.. You believe I cannot pray with a single arm? A prayer comes from the heart!" -Netero after losing his arm There's also a line from Geto in JJK S2 where he said that he believes conventional weapons should be used in a fight against cursed users - I think that's the JJK author getting something from Netero using a nuke.

Astor Lefflinker

Guys remember at the end of ep 89 when Netero said he can't complete the mission without sacrificing someone...he was referring to himself 😭💥

Kaiser the Elitist

Carlie smiling through the entire Gon/Pitou/Pouf/Knuckle convo was hilarious hahaha

Sam B

The arm and leg that Netero did'nt use were the same limbs he avoided using during the ball fight with Gon and Killua during the hunter exam by the way

Master Nayan

Actually, evolve here also means for malice. In original Manga, this is written as evolve, and pronouced as malice. A simple and cheap bomb destroy the cities and ants

Zinc Young

"Dont underestimate the human race Meruem" it means too much . You might be the strongest creature , i might be the strongest nen user but even a small bomb that is produced by humans can destroy us. It is just EPIC.

yunus

Ooh here we go the chunk of episodes that ive been waiting for since forever, these up to episodes 131 are such a rollercoaster cant wait for the 131 reaction next week

Edward Chireno

Yes EPIC

Chloé
