I've watched this show many, many times and I was always a bit unhappy with the "I'll teach you waterbending because I loved your grandma" thing. But I think I can see it in a different light now. Perhaps it's not giving her special treatment because she's related to Kana. It could be that Paku realised that clinging to his traditions is what drove the love of his life away from him. That things can be different if he simply chooses to believe they can and that sometimes tradition needs to be a guidline rather than a rule. That he is the only one standing in the way of teaching this talented bender. Amd that if he had been more open and understanding in the past, his life might have been different. And the fact that he and Kana seem to end up together in the end really show his growth and willingness to change and be better for not just her, but in general as a person. To be more deserving of love and is able to love more fully in turn. (Also, it's really funny to me that you two latched onto Jong Jong's disappearing act like some sort of firebending power 😂 Pretty sure he just put up a fire wall as a distraction and then ran away, the equivalent of using a smoke bomb to escape lol. Zhao even says right after "it's a trick. He's run off into the woods." Firebenders definitely CAN'T teleport.)

anything related to zuko and iroh's relationship makes me bawl my eyes tbh, some of the best dialogue in the show is between them, i'm so excited for book 2!! i want to predict who your favorite characters are gonna be by the end of the series but i have to be patient lol, it gets better and better from now on, thanks for the reactions♡

you know, i watch Avatar probably once a year or so....I've never considered Zhao's defeat like Carlie saw it....he wanted to be remembered in history as this great person, and the Ocean spirit just comes and quietly grabs him and then poof! nothing...almost fitting. Thanks Carlie, that was a new perspective for me.

i always liked that in the show premier just after Zuko sees the giant light shoot up into the sky, Iroh tells Zuko "a man needs his rest," then in the Book1 finale, his last dialog is the same sentence. almost has a "bookend" to the season.

some of my favourite episodes of the whole series, particularly since I rewatched these so many times while waiting and hoping for Book 2 to appear. The animation when it goes to grey, with colour when there is fire or water, always captivates me.

I know it's easy to miss in the heat of the moment but remember healing works with waterbending and the moon dying disabled waterbending. Katara can't heal the fish.
