I hate this new "yap/yappin" trend. Just a way to attempt to write off anything anyone says if you don't want to hear it lol.

Procrastinating uni work. I'll do literally anything to not study :P

I think the whole situation is supposed to be a bit messed up and uncomfortable, but part of that is the point. Roswaal has done a lot of bad things in the past, or at least been close to them; and he feels like he's failed at protecting everyone he valued the most. So he feels that he is weak and reprehensible, utterly unlovable. But Ram loves him anyways. Right or wrong, she thinks she can see a likeable man under his self-hating act (the makeup and voice imitating one who he hates) and his despair. His disbelief that anyone could love him is part of why he's stuck 400 years in the past, unable to move on and see or care for those actually around him now. So she's forcing the issue by burning the gospel, showing that she wants to strip away that damaged part of him and is willing to sacrifice even her life to do so. But yes, Rem's love confession, which this mirrors, was quite a bit better :)

My 2 cents on the Ram confession to Roswaal: First - I do want to say that I think It's actually pretty well established how Ram feels towards Roswaal in the leadup to that confession, but a lot of people choose to selectively ignore the signposting because it's an uncomfortable thought. I don't really blame anyone for being taken off guard by it, but the story DOES actually signpost it pretty heavily. Which leads to my main thing about why I don't mind it. Re:Zero has a LOT of relationships in it that are seriously problematic, but the reason I enjoy them is because they are MEANT to be viewed as problematic, and those messy, toxic parts are intentional parts of the story that are there to be explored. Basically, if something in the show make you go "... ugh, that's a little ick" - most of the time - that was intentional. Case in point: Subaru's whole meltdown in the capital where he had that big fight with Emilia in S1. It's a ultimately a story about awful, shitty people slowly learning to be better - so yes, there's a lot of awful, shitty people. So yeah, it feels weird knowing that Ram holds strong feelings of love/attraction/dependance towards Roswaal because we know he's a manipulative d-bag who has done terrible things to her and the people she loves. And that's fair to think - it is a messy, awful thing, but it is ALSO, unfortunately, realistic. Stockholm syndrome is a thing that exists for very understandable reasons. Also... Calling it "just" stockholm syndrome is actually a bit reductive - it's more complicated than that, but before I get to that, I think it's also worth noting that Roswaal is actually being very uncharitable towards himself in his framing of the whole situation. He didn't "massacre her village" himself - the Witch Cult was already planning to do that of it's own accord. Instead, when his Gospel told him that the Witch Cult was going to destroy the Oni (AKA Demon) Village, but that he would gain a powerful set of allies if he only intervened right at the end - he followed it's instructions, let the massacre take place, and only chose to step in at the last minute (after Ram had lost her horn). When he says "I am the one who destroyed your home" it means "I am the one who could have saved your home, but chose not to, because I would benefit from letting it happen". He also has always been extremely upfront with her about his reasons, motives and goals. He's never lied to her - so she's not really been "manipulated", just "coerced". And he KNOWS what he did was terrible, which is why he promised her that if she agreed to work for him in the mean time, one day, he would let her have her vengeance by making sure she was the one to kill him. But Ram has now been working for him for a LONG time (at least 10 years), during which time he has taken great pains to treat her crippling health condition, has trained her in many skills of value, and has treated her with the utmost respect to her capabilities and given her plenty of responsibility. He values her immensely and cares for her wellbeing constantly. All, of course, for his own benefit, because it makes her a better "tool", but as I said, he's always been honest about that. And during that time, Ram has gotten to understand him much better, in particular - basically how sad and miserable his existence actually is - eternally pining after a long lost love, making next to no real decisions for himself, just endlessly following the instructions in a Magic Book in the hope that it will one day let him achieve his goals. She pities him. So the combination of realizing that this "awful, manipulative man" is actually basically a sad, depressed loser, the fact that, although he COULD have saved her home, he also could have done nothing, and just... let them all die, and there would have been no consequences for him (like Crusch was going to do to the Village in S1), and the fact that he genuinely does value her highly, trust her immensely and care for her extremely well all served to slowly change her mind on him. Originally she just wanted him dead for having stood aside and watched her family be murdered, but nowadays she just wants him to stop being such a depressed, miserable fuck. The fact that her "love" for Roswaal is therefore, not really rooted in "dependence on him for survival" but actually in "pity and compassion" does a lot to take the "abusive" sting off the relationship for me. And then - Rem got erased - and so with it her ONLY reason for having purpose in life BESIDES Roswaal. Where previously she was pityingly compassionate towards him and maybe a little closet in love with the strong, capable nobleman who tenderly treats her magic disability every night (still kinda ick, but at the same time... I get it) - her priorities were still balanced out by looking out for the wellbeing of her emotionally unstable, borderline suicidal little sister. Now, without Rem, Roswaal is her ONLY reason for existing. He is literally her reason to live, and we've seen how intense Rem gets with her love for Subaru, which is extremely similar in nature - Ram isn't so dissimilar. All up I'm not sure how clear I was - But to summarize it boils down to: - The "Icky" part of it is intentional, its a piece of the puzzle to be explored in later seasons. - Roswaal overhypes how abusive he actually was (because that's how he thinks of himself). Ram isn't some emotionally broken dependant like Ymir, she's made a fairly natural, arguably even "healthy" transition towards love - even if it's a super problematic relationship due to a tonne of power imbalance reasons. - The fact that the crush is entirely and solely from Ram's side of things, and that Roswaal never wanted or tried to get Ram to feel positively about him (the entire time he was convinced she was just waiting for an opening to literally murder the shit out of him), in tandem with the fact that Roswaal was always extremely honest about his goals and desires means Ram keeps her agency. And that's really the big thing for me: Ram has complete agency and independence in this situation. Her love isn't something inherently positive, or healthy, or that we're even supposed to be supportive of, but it is absolutely HERS. Her choice, her feelings, her wants. Even if it's not ideal, it's still genuine. And I think that helps take most of the edge off for me.

Btw the song playing during the Ram/Roswaal fight is called 'What You Don't Know' which is Ram's theme sang by her VA Murakawa Rie. A very beautiful song that deserves a listen on its own when you have time!

yeah i actually dont know who's the mother or anything outside of the anime, but i also noticed that MotherFortuna , when she's dying, said that "brother, i couldn't keep my promise to you... your wife is going to be very angry". that last word i feel is intentional. On my first watch i thought that the implication was that Emilia's satella's daughter or reincarnation of some sorts and "wife" was a contract between emilia's dead and the witch of envy... but... after a second rewatch, i'm on ange's new camp here, and the interactions between minerva and emilia were ... familial... and she wouldnt let her see her face, maybe because she'd recognize her.?

I was wondering if you were going to switch up your theory about Emilia's mother after seeing the scene with Minerva.

12:00 "That was kinda hot" - Ange in his mind.

Yeah it's basically Stockholm Syndrome. She doesn't care what he did to her clan, fucked up as it is.

Please fix episode 23 full reaction link. It leads to ep22

Nah I’d win

I may be wrong but i think that the "love" Ram is feeling right now has something to do with the state Rem is in. Since she doesnt remember her, maybe her brain adapted her memories to a life in which Rem never existed, so she probably doesnt remember how she lost her horn and thinks that she was born without one and her life in that village was hell because of that, etc, etc... and Roswall indirectly saved her by destroying it or something like that. After all she indeed hated him when she was young so i cant think of any other explanation that fits better than this one. Then again, maybe that hatred just somehow changed to love, after all love is the most irrational emotion there is.

R.I.P to Anges favorite mommy.

Just a clarification. Ram always knew that Roswaal did it. I think you got something mixed up back at that episode, but they even show Ram as a little kid looking at him with Hatred. There's even talk about the pact they formed. Not that it needs to change your mind or anything, it is a very strange relationship. Classic case of Stockholm Syndrome.
