2024-05-02 23:59:27 +0000 UTCNot sure if this has been pointed out yet but, on top of the inexperience fighting air bending ange brought up, air bending is visible only to the audience. Every other bending these soldiers have experienced have them dodging/deflecting physical things. It’s like spending your whole life in a martial art now having to adapt to an enemy with invisible limbs.

The order of learning the elements in each Avatar is different, it depends on their born element, following the order of the Avatar cycle. Ex: If the Avatar is from the Earth Kingdom, he/she learns earth bending in the childhood, then fire, air and finally water.

2024-05-02 00:02:16 +0000 UTCThe way the firebending master described the dangers of fire bending and for Aang to first control the other 2 less destructive ones was phenomenal. With earth and water it’s easy to control where u want to go with it without causing harm to others, but with fire bending the smallest flame can cause a huge desaster. And as Ange correctly caught on it also serves as a metaphor to the benders mental state. Aang wanted to rush this step and brute force his way when he clearly isn’t ready yet.

Love how the show implies that every fire bender basically needs to take anger management classes before attempting fire bending lmao! Ep 17 with the airwalkers always left me with mixed feelings, like I'm happy Teo and his dad were able to build a life there but also couldn't help but truly sympathize with Aang. I think if the scientist had built a new life around the air temple structures instead of straight up destroying most of the place and its heritage it wouldn't have hurt so much. That was a hard hitting episode. But nice to see Teo and Aang become friends in the end. Sucks that the fire nation got thier handa on the war balloon now though. What Ange said about the fire nation troops not knowing how to fight Aang as they've likely never fought an Air Nomad is spot on. Nice observation! I also think it's because Air Nomads generally are known to avoid fights so they don't go head on like the Fire Nation. Aang himself is a 'master of evasive maneuvers' like Zuko once said (different context though lol) and he fights by mostly deflecting other's attacks with his air bending. I think that's why his fight choreography has always been the most interesting to me.
