2024-04-21 21:14:48 +0000 UTCApothecary Diaries is a Chinese setting, so the names will reflect that. In Chinese, "mao" actually means "cat", which is why Maomao is often depicted as a chibi cat. You can think of an apothecary as along the lines of herbalist or pharmacist! So Maomao's kind of like a doctor. Not a spoiler: one thing that comes up in later episodes that the first episode doesn't explain is that when Maomao was kidnapped, the kidnappers did (legal) business with a family in the palace to employ Maomao as a palace servant. So, whatever pay she gets goes to the kidnappers, who pretended to be her family. Something you probably didn't catch in this episode is that Maomao warned both women about the powder, not just Gyokuyo. It's just that someone from the other woman's palace saw the flower that the message was tied on and threw it out the window without reading it (probably thought it was trash). I'm excited for your reactions! Apothecary Diaries is a fun watch, and Maomao really makes the show shine!
