I've said it before but I'll say it again: this arc of HxH is incredibly overrated. It has some of the best MOMENTS of the show but as an arc it is very slow and straight up boring at times.

2024-04-19 23:58:21 +0000 UTCi love the irony in komugi and meruem's interactions, the first sign of affection she's ever received was from an "evil monster", and the most damage the king has taken so far was done through a defenseless girl asking for his name. outside the palace, everyone is literally fighting and scheming life and death battles, got killua literally losing his mind lol, but inside the palace there's a beast (who is supposed to be a threat to the world) and a fragile blind girl quietly playing a game together. i'm so excited for ya'll to see how togashi develops the arc from this point, thanks for the reactions!! also, i'm so glad you like pouf😭 i've only seen reactors finding him annoying while i enjoy his dramatic scenes so much, he's ICONIC lmao

But with how complex Nen is and the fact that the humans are not obligated to engage in a head on battle against the ants they can find a way to defeat them with special abilities. If this was a tournament tho, any of Royal Guards would solo all of the humans ez peasy.

We’ve had one significant example of a nen genius before (Neon Nostrade from the Yorknew Arc and her Lovely Ghost Writer). The explanation was pretty early on (I think Wing was the one who gave it, when nen was introduced), but there are a few ‘geniuses of their craft’ who unconsciously learn nen, without actually knowing what it is - usually in pursuit of the mastery of a skill of choice, Komugi’s being Gungi (and Neon’s being fortune-telling). Komugi had also set a restriction for herself (if I lose a game, I die) due to her circumstances but those ended up also working as a restriction for her nen ability and strengthening it further. Her nen entirely revolves around mastering Gungi.

The bird that attacked her was the same bird who flew away when Meruem showed off his aura and started acting sinister and thinking of killing her. As Japanese authors love using birds as symbolism, I think that the bird was symbolism for Meruem's intent. The bird was agitated by Meruem's sinister aura that was directed to Komugi. It then attacked Komugi, but when Meruem saw her being hurt by it, he extinguished it and he was overcome by the instinct or desire to protect her instead.

Pouf sees the ideal of the King, the symbol. Pitou considers the feelings of the King, his person. Youpi sees the King as the hierarchy, the order he has to obey, the animalistic side of it, instinct. Netero's story is actually inspired by Mas Oyama (Creator of Kyokushin Karate), a korean martial artist who lived in Japan and once isolated into the mountains to train, like hardcore. The story is hard to know because what happened after kinda made it very mythologized and lots of details are probably exagerrated to be cool (He allegedly knocked bulls out in demonstrations to prove his strenght). But the point is that Oyama was a martial artist before, and when he came back , he had become a a monster. He was the main inspiration of Ryu from Street Fighter.
