2024-04-03 09:32:06 +0000 UTCloved the commentary at the end, i love this episode because they show so much about how katara's mind and heart works, she's such a well written female character

2024-04-02 20:06:06 +0000 UTCHarus father is voiced by the fantastic Kevin Michael Richardson, great VA. I was suprised you didnt spot the Warden is voiced by George Takei, or it may be I'm old enough to remember him in his Star Trek role The female warriors from the last episode were the Kyoshi Warriors, named after a past Avatar - Avatar Kyoshi.

2024-04-02 18:53:21 +0000 UTCI'm going to kind of echo what's been mentioned above. The bending in the show isn't heavily reliant on how the elements interact with one another, but rather puts emphasis on who is more skilled with their element. For example, you'd think water would probably just splash against a large rock from an earth bender, but if a waterbender is skilled enough, they can slice through the rock. You'll come to understand just how awesome and stunning the bending can be. You've only gotten a small taste of it thus far!

2024-04-02 18:17:41 +0000 UTCWhat I love about this show is that the power system doesnt simply come down to limits like “water puts out fire” , its really about how much someone has mastered their element and the techniques they employ. And yes, the environment around the fight also plays a massive role on who has the upper hand. It keeps things really refreshing and each fight interesting. Each of the 4 elements is based off a unique martial arts style which adds a cool sense of realism to it all.

2024-04-02 17:56:59 +0000 UTCSince you guys were talking about how good the fighting sequences are, I thought I’d mention that each type of bending is based off of four different martial arts techniques. Water Bending is inspired by Tai chi’s “fluidity, connectivity and adaptability.” Earth Bending is based off of Hung Gar, which is has “low stances, rooted power, and strength.” Fire Bending is Northern Shaolin and features “very powerful and dynamic footwork, arrow-like forward attacks, and feather-like retreating techniques.” Air Bending is Baguazhang where “fighters shift and rotate their center in circular pattern in order to counteract resistance and attack.” The creators consulted real martial arts experts to make sure the fighting was accurate to their specific style. If you pay attention to the fight scenes, you can clearly see that the benders from each nation fight differently. That’s why it looks so real ☺️

2024-04-02 16:20:49 +0000 UTCWater beats fire doesn't really apply in this universe. They're more equally balanced. Although Ange saying "a waterbender, an earthbender, a firebender and an airbender walk into a bar" sounded less like a versus discussion and more like the start of a joke and now I need the punch line 😂

2024-04-02 16:13:11 +0000 UTCThe warden lost the battle but definitely won the dancing contest.

2024-04-02 16:11:15 +0000 UTCThey would arrest Katara for waterbending but wouldn't send her to the same prison, as you probably realized later. Surely not this one surrounded by water 😅
