I feel like a big part of Gon being ok with using his friends as bait for Hisoka has more to do with Gon overestimating his own strength. gon is really surprised at the beginning of the heaven's arena arc when Killua spells out the difference in power between Gon and Hisoka at that point in the series. My take is that Gon was assuming either stealing Hisoka's badge would change his focus and make him chase Gon instead of Leorio and Kurapika, or He would be able to jump out and distract Hisoka in time to save his friends. So essentially in Gon's mind Leorio and Kurapika weren't in any major danger. Kite is literally the first experiance Gon had with a fatherly figure, and the first hunter Gon ever met. Not only is Kite Gon's only connection to Ging but he's the reason Gon even knew Ging was alive to begin with.

As someone who grew up with the 1999 anime, I always thought it was weird to throw in the argument that Kite is Gon's connection to Ging, because they knew each other for, what, a week??? Meanwhile, during the Hunter exam, Gon was willing to use his closest friends (Kurapika and Leorio) as bait to steal Hisoka's badge— knowing that Hisoka prefers killing. Yes, he was concerned for his friends, but he was more preoccupied by the badge itself. So with this, I found his relationship with Kite very strange.

2024-03-27 15:08:56 +0000 UTCNot really a lot. But it makes more sense. Because they met in Whale Island when Gon was young and Kite did more than just save him from the Foxbear. He told him that his father is alive and is the best hunter in the world. He also gave him Ging's license. And when they met after Greed Island, they instantly recognized each other instead of momentarily forgetting who each other were like the 2011 anime portrayed. Which is a shame because Gon forgetting who Kite was is one of Ange's big problems.

2024-03-26 01:24:08 +0000 UTCI remember finding a pretty convincing argument for why Gon being fixated with the whole Kite situation actually has nothing to do with Kite and everything to do with this being the first time that things don't go his way, which may also be why the anime leaves out that episode from the 1999 version. At this point we've all seen his selfish tendencies and how he has always got everything to go his way, in the Hunter exam arc with Hanzo, Heaven's Arena why he didn't listen to Wing, Greed Island with Genthru and Killua, these are times where things really could and did go wrong, but there were no lasting consequences, so this is the first time he's being confronted with the prospect of him being denied something he wants. 2024-03-25 03:36:23 +0000 UTCI think Gon and Kite's relationship is best taken at face value. Gon's purpose in life has basically been to find Ging. He ended up stumbling upon Kite (due to Ging) and considers Kite as someone close to Ging and also see's him as someone who saved his life and thought him a valuable life lesson. Gon also takes responsibility for what happened to Kite as well. I get it would have been nice to see them together longer but I think it's established nicely how dear Kite is to Gon.
