that's the thing about shounen mc's they rarely get any acharacter development. they just are the way they are, or atleast the old gen shounen mcs

2024-03-24 19:55:02 +0000 UTCEven if they cut the original EP1, I still think they could've made it better... for example, they could've given us the full original EP1 and the encounter with Kite as a flashback after Gon and Killua met him at the tree, that would've solved the issue.

I get your frustration, because Gon is the most immature of the cast and very emotional but you need to remember, he is just a 12 year old kid from a small remote island. Unlike Kilua that's an assasin since he was 6, Gon has no real world experience, especially of a world as deadly and crazy as HunterXhunter's world. He has plenty of development already i think, he is already for example way less naive that he used to be.

2024-03-24 18:05:55 +0000 UTCAh yes, the birth of rizz god Gon and liberated Killua XD Carlie caught something that might be true. Pitou's ability resembling a clown may have been inspired by Kite's. When Kite summoned his clown in front of her, she did seem fascinated by it. And I understand Ange's issue about Gon's affection for Kite even more now after hearing this discussion. It's true that if Gon had recognized Kite immediately after using Accompany card to n-word, their relationship would have felt more organic since it shows the audience that they've known each other for a long time and was important to each other at least to a degree that they won't momentarily forget who either of them are if they met again. Unfortunately that's really an anime adaptation issue. Because in the manga, as soon as they saw each other, Kite and Gon immediately recognized each other. Here are pages 12 & 13 of chapter 185: https://imgur.com/tssRrbk https://imgur.com/S68uibP The problem really stems from the fact that the 2011 version cut Kite's meeting with Gon at the beginning and it snowballed to this. Because of that, they were forced to only show the meeting through small flash backs and make it seem like that event in Gon's life was just a minor one, when in reality, it's really what sets off the story. They even made it look like Kite only saved Gon from the Foxbear, but in the '99 version and the manga, Kite told him about his father and the world of hunters, as well as left him Ging's Hunter license. I still think that it's also understandable why Gon is so attached to Kite even if we only factor in the 2011 version because Kite is the only father figure he's ever had and he's his only connection to Ging. Kite also has earned Ging's respect and I think Gon really doesn't wanna disappoint Ging by being the kid who caused Kite's demise. But could it have been built better by simply adapting Kite's meeting with Gon in Whale Island and their reunion after Greed Island as it was in the manga? Absolutely.

2024-03-24 17:37:57 +0000 UTCYou're right, I didn't remember that scene correctly. But I say "maybe it wasnt his fault entirely, so I may have been harsh on Gon", literally 5-10 seconds later. I dont think i have a lot of negative bias towards Gon. Im very sarcastic about him, and I do like the kid. I'd maybe have hoped to see a bit more character development in Gon 95 episodes in just because I think he's had countless opportunities to learn and grow as a character. But i definitely do not dislike him as much as you think, or as much as I may be letting on.

2024-03-24 16:04:48 +0000 UTCReposting re; Gon and Kite. Gon's behaviour towards Kite is difficult to grasp, to be sure. But this isn’t so much a writing problem as it is an adaptation one. Yes, cutting his flashback in this version was a criminal decision, but as others have said, Gon and Kite’s relationship is built up more organically in the manga and we don’t get this sense of disjointedness, not only because their almost-filial connection (Kite is the closest thing to a father figure Gon has seen) is established at the very beginning, but Kite is name-dropped throughout the series long before the CA arc. And when they do eventually meet, they recognise each other immediately. If you remember from Ep 1 of the 1999 version, Kite even leaves Ging’s license on Whale Island rather than suddenly remembering to give it to him in NGL. As you watch, just keep in mind that Kite was basically Gon’s childhood hero, a secondary father figure and essentially the whole reason the impressionable eight-year-old trained for years to become a hunter in the first place, after realising that his father who he thought was dead was revealed to be alive. Kite gave Gon purpose. All this considered, I think Gon’s behaviour and actions feel more believable.

Kite didn't lose his arm because of Gon's rage, Gon got enraged because Kite lost his arm to shield both him and Kilua from Pitou. Its so funny that from all the psychotic characters in this show Gon is the one that scares and annoys Ange the most.
