"Have you ever spared a cow or a pig as it begged for its life?" "...If I said 'yes', would you still-" *splat*

I agree with this, and there's also that part where Gon is very worried that he had caused Kite's demise. It never really bothered me that he's so invested on Kite's well-being seeing that he's his only connection to Ging, he's the closest to a father figure to him, and he's thought him a lot during the short time they spent together + the time he saved Gon in Whale Island. In episode 85, Carlie said that Kite might be her favorite character and Ange was surprised and that's probably because Kite has only been on screen for a few episodes. But I think that's kind of another example of how you can be attached to someone even if you weren't with them for a long time.

As someone who watched hunterxhunter 2011 before the 1999 first episode, I can tell you that honestly except informations from Mito it didn’t bring anything new about Kite for me, he just had a little longer apparence. And if for you, for a relationship to seems strong it needs to be showed (in the show) on the long term then I can understand your frustration. Even though I didn’t quite understand why you would think that their relationship was too shallow to be really cared about, I think it’s because of different ways of seeing it. When I first watched HxH and even still now, what I saw was a little boy in need of someone to look up to, he learned that Kite was someone his father recognised, someone he could relate to because once had the same goal as him but also someone who was still willing to stay by his side to teach him about hunters and his father (unlike everyone else until now, they were either secretive or clueless). The reason it didn’t bother me that it was so short was because I don’t think every relationship are always created on the long term, yes we learn more about the other with time, but in real life they are just people that you like immediately and people you can’t seem to like even tho you don’t know why. Logic and emotions can go in quite the opposite directions sometimes (Killian and Gon are quite the analogy for that) and maybe you’re trying to think a little bit too much logically. Anyway that’s just an opinion, it’s also completely valid to think otherwise, just wanted to show another perspective.

Any updates about the next two episodes?

Jesus Rocha

dont worry they know it hope they change it just how they banter husbando and waifu things xd

Jeff

yeah they do that a lot. like looking away from the screen for longer periods of time while the ep is still playing. i think pausing and then doing the banter or talking would enhance the experience for them and the viewers

souma shou

I think Gon sees Kite as the closest thing to his father, and in a way sees him as some sort of father/role model. but 100% agreed with Ange about the Kite/Gon relationship buildup. There just isn't enough of it.

WodanarFogala

they missed the part about the women fanatics that gon was talking about that was suppose to be a funny please try to not look away at the screen :(((((

Jeff

HxH is one of my favorite animes but that Gon and Kite thing is one of the things I never really got. Kite was there like 5 episodes and Gon seems to be overly attached.

Phil

but king and royal guards don't have human memories, the are a combination of all features

Zinc Young

the ants don't know anything about humans, look how's Meruem was genuinely shocked when they asked him to spare their lives, he's like why? this doesn't make sense lol

the grafted

Gon is also not a normal kid, that alone works lol

Ayy LFG

Well said and also another thing. Gon feels tremendous guilt about Kite, he believes that he is responsible for Kites demise and is his duty to fix him or else avenge him. Because Gon is a naïve 12 year old with a strong sense of justice, coupled with insanely strong willpower and stubbornness. That's the burden he will carry with him for the next episodes.

Gon's behaviour towards Kite is difficult to grasp, to be sure. But this isn’t so much a writing problem as it is an adaptation one. Yes, cutting his flashback in this version was a criminal decision, but as others have said, Gon and Kite’s relationship is built up more organically in the manga and we don’t get this sense of disjointedness, not only because their almost-filial connection (Kite is the closest thing to a father figure Gon has seen) is established at the very beginning, but Kite is name-dropped throughout the series long before the CA arc. And when they do eventually meet, they recognise each other immediately. If you remember from Ep 1 of the 1999 version, Kite even leaves Ging’s license on Whale Island rather than suddenly remembering to give it to him in NGL. As you watch, just keep in mind that Kite was basically Gon’s childhood hero, a secondary father figure and essentially the whole reason the impressionable eight-year-old trained for years to become a hunter in the first place, after realising that his father who he thought was dead was revealed to be alive. Kite gave Gon purpose. All this considered, I think Gon’s behaviour and actions feel more believable.

Kaiser the Elitist

Exactly. it is actually quite sad the first person he meets that resembles a father figure he grows insanely attached to in such a long time, just goes to show how the absence of Ging affected Gon. I use to think it was not Gon/kite relationship wasn't that strong for Gon's obsession but I came to realize that it actually is genius writing

Ammar gayal

Literally checking everyday if new HxH video is out lol, thanks much appreciated, and happy you're feeling better Carlie xD

Heinrich

your thoughts on how the series treated gons relationship with kite are very valid ange, that’s one of the few things manga readers complain a lot about the 2011 ver.

beannie

Btw episode 95 has a scene at the very beginning of the video before the opening song and the title screen. I hope you don't miss it!

It's understandable that Ange feels that way about Gon's affection for Kite. The time they spent together was quite short and yep Gon didn't even instantly remember him. That's why we really pushed for you guys to watch the 1st episode of the 1999 version. Also, in the manga, when he and Gon met again, they instantly recognized each other. With that said, Gon, all this time, along with trying to find Ging, has also been basically seeking his approval, and then we have Kite who has gotten that respect from Ging. Kite is Gon's only connection to him, and I think that in the back of Gon's mind, if Kite ended up dying from Pitou and that was because he held him back (Kite protected them after all), that he'd be a big disappointment to Ging. That's just how I read into Gon's psyche. Before going to NGL, Gon talked to Killua about Kite telling them to leave him if he's the one who's in trouble, and Gon asked Killua if it's even possible for someone who earned Ging's respect to be in that kind of situation. Ging is a big part here and I think Gon doesn't want to be that kid who caused the demise of someone who earned Ging's respect.

The buildup of Kite and Gon was more or less seen on the manga, i think since this is an anime adaptation is a little less develop? not like it was that much developed either way. In my opinion Gon is putting Kite on a pedestal cause he is the closest person he has to Gin. we know Gon has an obsession to finding his dad and now he got a person that knows him and met with him not so long ago, since we have seen Gon is not really a sane person i always got the feeling he got some kind of toxic adoration for Kite in some part cause is a person close to Gin and Gon is too into finding anything about him.

Edward Chireno

Honestly I've had a hard time understanding Gon's attachment to Kite. Specially in the 2011 version since he was never introduced in the first ep. It is one of the few gripes I have with this version.

Oh I really needed this today. Thanks ❤️
