The Zoldyck’s assassin training revolves around the idea of strike only when there’s 100% success rate and don’t take risks. If you think about it, that goes against this entire premise of this arc where the characters are facing ants that are much much stronger than them. Illumi always ingrained in Killua not to fight an opponent that is stronger than him, it’s his way of always making sure Killua is safe and not taking risks. He said that to him in the hunter exam when he warned him not to fight him as he is much stronger, and we remember that Killua gave up that fight back then. Even when Illumi said that if he doesn’t fight him / stop him, he’ll go kill Gon. Killua still decided to give up.
