2024-03-13 23:10:32 +0000 UTCThe moment you're talking about says that Fern is particularly good at concealing her mana and presence. Not that she's better at it than Frieren. Because she isn't. Frieren trained her to excel at it since then. As Frieren is highly skilled in mana detection and analysis, the fact that she sometimes has trouble detecting Fern shows just how good Fern is. This is also the case for Methode, who claims to have difficulty finding Fern's clone, but she manages to detect it anyway (unlike Sense's.) Fern is also particularly fast at Zoltraak attacks. On that precise point, she's better than Frieren.

It starts off as an episode to episode series and then transitions into a movie. Two new movies have dropped in Japan and are making their way to the US (Rascal doesn’t dream of a venturing sister & Rascal doesn’t dream of a knapsack kid) this month where I live in Seattle. It’s a very interesting story forsure

That’s explained in ep3, I believe, when Frieren was looking for Fern when she was a child. Fern says something like, “It’s hard for you too Frieren to find me. Mr. Heiter says it’s hard to find me”

2024-03-13 20:53:00 +0000 UTCOne other moment of mana suppression in the episode that was missed was with Ehre vs Fern. Ehre felt like something didn't align with how well Fern was defending and attacking. The amount of mana Fern is showing/suppressing is causing Ehre to make mistakes because she expects Fern to be much weaker than she is. Just like with the demons in episode 8. Ehre was almost able to deduce it this episode, though. She did know "something felt off"

2024-03-13 16:02:21 +0000 UTCVery nice little touch was during the montage they showed Frieren looking closely at some trees. That was most likely her trying to find out how to mimic beeing a tree. And the thing with contestants dying is sad, but if they can safely fail and try and try again until they are lucky enough to pass, it would be worse. 1st class mages are supposed to handle whatever danger there is in the north. They are hired by ordinary people to enter the northern area and they carry the responsibility for all those peoples lives they bring with them, so they better be adequate for job.
