Ange's rendition of OP2 is super good. I don't have any single coil guitars and it's hard to get that authentic tele sound for the opening chords. but I guess PRSs are built different. Now we just need a metal cover for the ending theme full of blastbeats and Mongolian throat singing.

I haven't read the manga, but I believe Sein left not necessarily to look for his friend, but to put his own affairs in order, before he rejoins the group. That's why it was a short "see you later", rather than a proper "goodbye". Remember that Sein's character arc is all about his regrets (similar to Frieren, that's why she says to him that she hates her own kind). He already made good with his brother who told him to bloody go on an adventure already, so now he needs to find out what happened to Gorilla. Gorilla Warrior said he'd be back after 3 years. It's been 10 years. The chances of him still being alive are slim at best, and I think Sein knows that. Still, he won't rest until he confirms it himself. He needs to have some kind of closure, so that he doesn't regret anything, and then he'll rejoin the gang. He just wants to have a fresh start. At least that's what I think.

I was ok with the goodbye just bc none of them are very emotionally expressive. I think Sein had only been with them for less than a year. As a show watcher, we probably expect an emotional moment when a seemingly big character is leaving the party, but I think this send off had a grounded/real feeling to it.

so excited for this arc

I originally expected there to be more to the goodbye, but that doesn't mean I was disappointed by what we got. I'm sure he'll return at some point, with or without Gorilla (I'm leaning toward Gorilla being dead though).

Yeah it almost always is explained further in this series. Im sure Sein will be back!

Carlie & Ange

There has to be more season. The manga goes on much further.

I like to think that it was more of a "see you later" than a "farewell" kind of parting. No need to spend time on a long drawn out goodbye if you're going to be together again.

Alex

For me, I like how Sein left the group because it doesn't feel like a "goodbye" but a "see you later" - it keeps me hopeful that they will reunite again in the future! It does feel incomplete and unsatisfying, but oddly enough I think that's the point

Maxine

noticed that too! super hyped

Personally, my initial reaction to the goodbye was that it felt lacking. However, I like to believe that Sein is ok with this, and that he doesn't want it to be a heartfelt goodbye, because then it might have actually made him feel like he was never going to see them again. Him walking off while thinking of their time spent together, is enough for me to be content. I also like to believe that I know anime pretty well at this point, and I think that because Stark says "that was a quick goodbye", possibly means there's more to it that will be explained later.

I think the subdued farewell with Sein was symbolic. It was very contrary to his farewell with his best friend where he began to feel hopeless about seeing him again in the future. Not necessarily because he may be dead but because Sein himself couldn't find it in him to venture out to look for the lad. With Frieren and crew, he walked away with conviction that this was not goodbye. Not that he knows they'll necessarily meet again but he at least knows that there's a chance since he's not holed up in his village anymore. The whole thing was a subtle way of saying "See you later" the way we do in our modern world because it's easy to get around. Even though in this fictional world its years to travel they're suggesting that the distance between them isn't an obstacle that can't be overcome anymore.

great op cover!

Ange's look at the camera when it was confirmed that Sein was indeed leaving is everything, and in episode 18, Carlie, you did not misinterpret why Frieren was upset about seeing only half the sky. She was pissed off at the size of Fern's chest, and Lawi e and Kanne are kinda like Fern and Stark in a way. They just seem to flirt differently. At least that's the way I see it. I need more shipping prospects, so this one is real in my head.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Answering to episode 17 discussion. There will be an explanation for the short goodbye. Not sure when it was though.

Mango
