Blue Lock was the biggest surprise for me when it originally aired. I did not expect to like it (especially as I don't particularly like football) but I had so much fun watching it! I wonder if people don't like blue lock because it doesn't have those feel good team moments that shows like haikyuu or ace of the diamond which I could see. The selfishness of this anime is a fun perspective though.

I don't mind the show trying to push its argument as is. It's a work of fiction and it can do whatever silly things it wants. But Pele, through all his many many faults as a human being, has always been an incredibly humble player. He's always given his teammates and teamwork a ton of credit. So to see a quote praising the man be twisted to imply he's selfish just feels messed up. The argument could have easily been made without Pele being brought up.

And yet the story is almost non existent, the characters are poorly written, one note caricatures with zero development. The "hype" moments aren't really hype at all because there is no story buildup; there's no incentive or reason to even CARE about any character. I mean, this isn't even a sports anime. It's a battle Shonen. You don't learn any of the game rules, which position does what; literally everything that a sports anime is judged on, this show simply doesn't do. This anime is meant for a very specific type of person. The kind of person who judges how good an anime is by the FIGHTS instead of by the story. If the story is bad or nonexistent, the show is bad.

That's one of the problems I have with this show as well, hence why I dropped it. It kind of twists or picks elements from the sport to justify it's premise. IMO it's not really an anime for soccer fans but rather for people who enjoy squid-game like shows. For people interested in soccer anime, I recommend Giant Killing, but I do get that animation-wise it's not as good/flashy as new gen anime these days.

I will say, as a Brazilian who has heard and watched a lot of classic soccer... Pele is a terrible person for this anime to try to pretend is an egotist. He's been pretty vocal that he owes a lot of his success to his team, and especially Garrincha, with whom Pele has never lost a match when playing alongside. On that quote specifically, it is misatributed to Pele, but it was said ABOUT him by his coach, João Saldanha, with whom Pele didn't even get along very well. I swear, I am not going to be a stick in the mud about this anime, but I just want to point out that the premise as presented was done so with straight up lies. Whether late in the show we will learn that the misquoting was done by the character in the story or if it was done by the writer, I don't know. I just can't let the lie stand.

I'm not a big fan of Blue Lock either. It's entertaining but I don't subscribe to a lot of the core values in the show, namely its philosophy, "power progression" narrative, or just straight up eye candy. The only exception are Bachira's moves.

Maturity is when you realise we were lucky enough to watch the likes of Messi and Ronaldo than just arguing over who’s better. A bit more love for one which is for Ronaldo but respect to the freak of the nature Messi and probably the greatest and the only player to complete football in every aspect.

By the way after blue lock, the next sports anime should be kuroko’s basketball, that along with blue lock and haikyuu are the 3 best new gen sports anime’s and kuroko’s basketball is a mix of haikyuu and blue lock. They focus both on individual skills and team work! The show is also complete unlike haikyuu and blue lock

Yeah they were not really the realization of BlueLock, the BlueLock hype was mainly because of the timing of the release of the anime with the World Cup and the Japanese kits that were inspired by BlueLock. But they definitely seemed more confident in their playing ability but to say that’s because of BlueLock would be delusional, still, those were great times.

i dont think acknowledging you are better than others immediately means you are bad person. some of that can be simply observational and even objective truth. For example Ego estimated him better than most in that room so there is merit to his words. That kind of "EGO" is exactly what bluelock is actually about. I think you are mistaking ego for personality. There is more to one's personality than just their ego. if you only judge them by ego, or if you only judge them by how they act in distress then you miss a lot about their true character. You can't label an individual based solely on the one trait you dont like whilst ignoring everything else, or worse, twisting the narrative to make everything else be seen from negative POV cause you dont like a single thing about them. Its unfair and shallow. Kira was only one who thought about his teammates, in that regard he is only "good" person out of the bunch. He was also very hesitant to join and was likely going to leave if there was a divide of people leaving and going. He only goes when he sees Isagi and everyone rushing and his competitive nature kicked in. To simply ignore everything shown based on one moment is petty

United fan here and oh my God Ange is a Aussie scouser and he just asked me to get out sigh, anyway banter aside. I have been playing footy since I was 6-7 and became a United fan since I first saw 2006 flamboyant Ronaldo. But my all time favourite player is Bastian Schweinsteiger from Germany along with Ronaldo. I played CM and CAM also there’s nothing more satisfying than that inch perfect through ball assist to your striker even better than a goal coming from a midfielder. Ange will know how satisfying it is to put that ball on a plate for a striker as winger too from an inch perfect cross.

if you guys want a more team oriented, realistic football anime, I highly recommend Ao Ashi. If you guys want a sport anime with an mc similar to hinata shoyo, I recommend Diamond no Ace (baseball). For me, the only sport anime that can rival Haikyuu is Diamond no Ace.

I'm gonna enjoy this journey! I'm also a football player. Not a pro but I'm a winger as well (can play both right and left side). I agree, Neymar is no where near Ronaldo and Messi, he was right behind them for like 2-3 years, then he started getting injured every other game...still a great player though. I'm a big fan of Ronaldo (cause I'm a Real Madrid fan). I also like Vini Jr. and Bellingham, Mo Salah as well! Carlie Butchered his name 😂😂 I love the fact that you do these reactions on your game day. If I want to hype myself up for a game I watch an old Ronaldinho video. The guy gives me goosebumps every time even though I keep rewatching the same video 😂😂 By the way, I don't think this show does a good job in explaining football rules and tactics, so you may have to explain things to Carlie from time to time...I'm sure she'll enjoy it XD

Bluelock was made after Japan was eliminated from the 2018 World Cup (so not the most previous World Cup where they performed well) and it was made as a critique of the Japanese national team and also Japanese sports mentality as a whole. Fun fact, the anime release of BlueLock was popular enough the Japanese national football team made a collaboration with BlueLock and the jerseys they wore in the 2022 World Cup were BlueLock inspired (I believe they were designed by the author of BlueLock). I remember watching Japan’s games and being absolutely shocked at the teams they were beating and they got impressively far this time, all over social media it was a running joke that their success was because of BlueLocks mentality (since they were also wearing the Bluelock kits), I remember seeing hundreds of TikToks saying “the Bluelock project is real” and even comparing some of the goals scored by Japan to the goals you’ll see in BlueLock. Fun times.

So excited! Kira's definitely not a nice guy in my books by the way. The way he said "Do you seriously think Isagi or Igaguri are better than me? Why should I leave?" shows he thinks himself better than everyone else, even when he got shown who's boss. Like, I get his emotional state after being told his dreams are over, but the fact he said that shows he seriously treats others as lesser than him, his "kindness" is definitely a show he puts on and being told he's "the jewel of Japan's future soccer" has really gone to his head. Also Ego Jinpachi's VA is Hiroshi Kamiya, the VA for Levi from Attack on Titan, Takeda (Karasuno's advisor teacher) in Haikyuu, and Akashi in Kuroko no Basket. The creating soccer from zero part really reminded me of a video I had seen a long time ago of what soccer was like back when all videos were taken in black and white or sepia format (don't remember what year :p) and soccer was indeed a lot rougher than how it is now :p. The I in Iemon is an i not an L :p Personally don't care if you call it soccer or football.
