Definitely saw it all watching again with you guys. Ep 14 is really special now. I see some tears coming as Frieren's understanding of what was going on comes into light for her...that ep would definitely be devastating emotionally. Guess we'll just keep watching.

Its the one where the character has only one facet and its their only defining characteristic other than physical design plus it has to be over the top. Maybe its easier for teenagers to remember so many characters.

2024-02-28 18:47:14 +0000 UTCA really nice detail about Frieren&Himmel is that in every episode, we are reminded that it is XXX years after Himmel the Hero's death. For Frieren, whose lifespan is so long that 1000 years pass within a few blinks of an eye, Himmel's death marks a vital and pivotal moment in her life. This just shows how important he is to her. It also shows you how much she has changed. Her 1st ten-year journey to her felt like mere moments with little to remark upon, but now, every moment is of worth to her: 28 years after Himmel's death, this happened, and 29 years after Himmel's death, something else happened... Something tragic about opening each episode with XXX years though, is that we are constantly reminded how much time has passed. The theme of regret is always present in this anime. We find out more and more about Himmel, we are reminded of just how many years have already passed since his death and how Frieren is only NOW realising, through little moments of memory, just how important he was to her. She realised his love for her now, 29 years after his death. And he knew, Himmel knew that she didn't understand, and because he is human she most likely wouldn't even years after he died, but he still gave her the ring and decided to love her immortality with all his mortal years regardless. Eternal love indeed.

2024-02-28 03:58:07 +0000 UTCSomething that always comes to mind in ep 14 when I'm not having my heart shattered is how much I like Sein as a corrupt priest trope character. The guy doesn't even have a specific woman he's into, but he's not corrupt by being a pest to women. In fact he can very easily be trusted to be alone with them. Makes me think of Miroku from Inuyasha and even though he was all about Sango, he was still a pest to her and every other remotely attractive woman they met and he was really frustrating. It's a boring way to convey the trope and I'm so glad Sein so easily defied it.

It was Himmel expressing his eternal love for Frieren that goes beyond the boundaries of what his life span would allow. Him getting into a relationship with frieren could be more problematic than anything else. One example is that Frieren could become overly attached to Himmel and then due to her long life span the time she spent with Himmel would only chip away at a tiny little portion of her life.

It was more a gesture to express his love/fondness for Frieren as he probably knew that Elves lack romantic feelings and reproductive instincts (remember Frieren said that couple episodes back) and also he knows how dense Frieren is when it came to these things. Also Frieren is collecting grimoires period, not just the fake ones from Flamme.

2024-02-27 22:33:39 +0000 UTCYes, Frieren has a longer season than a normal one. Usually one part/one cour = 12 episodes. 2 parts/2 cour = 24 episodes. But Frieren had a 4 episode prologue. Hence the 28 episodes in total. This first season will end around chapter 60 of the manga. There are currently 124 chapters, and there will be more until Madhouse makes season 2. Frieren's adventure still holds many surprises in store :).

2024-02-27 20:48:56 +0000 UTCJust a prediction on my part. I haven’t read the manga, not even sure it’s completed yet, but i can really see it going in this direction. This is going to be a long journey. Stark’s motivation is to return to Aizen with stories of his adventures and mend the relationship. However, the party is heading north to Ende while Aizen is staying at home in the southern lands. As the show goes on, our distance from him will only increase. Yes, Aizen is a dwarf, and yes they live for a long long time, but i have a nagging feeling that when they finally make it to Aureole, Stark will hear someone call his name, and Aizen will be there. Their reunion will have to take place in heaven. . . It’ll be a devastating gut punch but also something i can totally see this show doing. The way it depicts mortality through the eyes of an immortal is something special. The way it shows how joy and sorrow are part of the same coin couldn’t be better written in my opinion.

2024-02-27 20:47:06 +0000 UTCThe dance scene from episode 15 was entirely hand-drawn by MYOUN with ZERO CG used. The dance moves were motion captured of real dancers from a dance school in Japan. The music composer of the show, Evan Call, specifically produced a Waltz BGM for that scene. The smoothness and fluidity of characters movements have always been the highlight of this series for me, and that dance scene just simply leveled up even more.

Frieren's ring, however, is still a simple bud and hasn't bloomed yet, showing that Himmel's love will never fully come to fruition, even if it still exists and is still eternal.
