That said, that's just one man's opinion. I'll keep paying and watching because I enjoy you two. Also, Roswaal didn't "fail" the trial he literally couldn't take it. He got "rejected" by it. That's why his body was destroyed. And while he might come off as a simp, he's still one of the most powerful mages we know of so... there's that.

If you are not allowed to take it the sanctuary rejects you and hurts you in the process. Soo Roswaal didn't fail it, he got rejected by it and got badly hurt in the process. The only reason Subaru can take it is because Echidna gave him permission.
