At least once a year I get the sudden urge to watch it again, when I'm down in the dumps and feeling stuck, and man is it impactful each time. One of those ones that really kicks you in the rear and makes you want to improve yourself.

When Kousei was playing the part where he says, "Reach her" (before Kaori appears), everyone was floored by how emotionally vulnerable he was being. Takeshi's actually, "Isn't he embarrassed? This performance is a love confession." Another thing not shown in the anime, probably because of lack of time left, is the audience's response to Kousei's performance. He got a standing ovation, and a lot of people were crying and were moved by his music. Emi was also teary-eyed and said that they (she and Takeshi) are on a journey to catch-up to Arima, which implies that Arima won the competition.

Every time I watch this show my eyes well up and my voice starts to break but crying does not happen. I do watch it every year (in April, obviously) and I do feel like I get closer to crying every year, but not yet. Maybe this year... Anyways, I do think the show gets better on repeat views. You can actually see Kaori in the Emi flashback for example. It's really cute.

Such a smart musical arrangement. Personally I think some symphonies are sleeping on an idea that could draw in a young crowd. Don't mind me as I plant this idea here on the internet. P.S. Ange can try to deny it, but I think I caught a brief moment of weeping somewhere in this.

Another trivia, the anime was being developed while the manga was still unfinished, and the author went back and forth multiple times if Kaori would die or not

Kousei used to believe that if he played well enough his mom would get better and obviously that is a silly thing to believe, but when his mother died he did blame himself somewhat, illogical as this may be. And now with Kaori he is trying harder, doing everything he can to help her and convicing her to do the surgery and whatnot. This is ends up being symbolized with the cat. Chelsea dies because Kousei didn't do enough. Now the reality is that he couldn't have stopped his mother no matter how hard he tried, but he didn't try as hard as he thought he should have. But in the present we have the new cat, whom he tries as hard as he can to save and it still wasn't enough. Some things are just out of his control.

It’s one of the only anime I watch reactions to because I want to see other people to cry with me 💀 but your summary at the end shows you really understood what this anime was about and what it set out to do, not something that most people get on their first watch. I'm glad everything reached and got through to you, and that you both enjoyed this beautiful piece of art.

Anime like these show that anime can have more depth and are not “kiddy cartoons” or “silly battle shonens” that non-anime watchers complain about all anime. I can rewatch Violet a dozen times, but I've only been able to make it through this a couple times purely based on the ending.
