They gave me a reason to re-experience the ball of joy that is this show, and it's so nice to see reactors who genuinely love the characters as much as the action, since I've often felt a lot of reactors miss out on the character-writing of this show. I'm a big fan of all seasons, but for me it's S2>S3>S1>S4 (cause my fav. rival team is Seijoh and I enjoyed the training arc in S2 a lot). My fav. Karasuno characters are actually the same as Carlie's: 1. Daichi (it helps that he has one of my favorite voice actors xD) 2. Hinata (big ball of sunshine like his name) 3. Asahi (he's just so relatable sometimes) Fav. rival characters...hard to choose, but might be 1. Iwaizumi 2. Akaashi 3.Bokuto It's kind of hard to recommend other sports anime after Haikyuu, since IMO it's peak of the genre, but a close one might be Hajime no Ippo (boxing anime). Other sports anime with great character-writing include Giant Killing (soccer) and Big Windup (baseball), but the animation of these aren't exactly on the same level of Haikyuu

I'm excited for your next haikyuu videos because I promise you guys the series and the payoffs to come (even from s1 moments!!) only gets better from here. It's so rewarding that everything comes full circle iykyk. I seriously suggest to read the manga as well because there are little moments that sadly weren't included in the anime (due to time constraints) that absolutely warmed my heart and since y'all love the character writing, I bet you'll love those moments too! If I were to name my favorite characters they'd probably be Kageyama, Sakusa and Akaashi (Hinata is very close but also this list is always changing LOL) You guys are probably my favorite haikyuu reactors. It's insane how quick you're all able to pick up the characters nuances and the story's rich metaphors, symbolism, and analogys (which is super rare for first time watchers). And not to mention how much attention and detail that goes into your editing and discussions. Honestly top tier! Again, just super happy to have discovered yall. Thanks for all the hard work so far!!

2024-02-25 02:20:03 +0000 UTCmy top 3: 1. king kags 👑 - he’s just such a beast 😩 when i was like 16 i used to wish i was a setter because there is just nothing like an absolute boss of a setter. also like ange was saying, i think kags is the technically best player on karasuno. he’s been a genius since day one and he’s not only a great setter, but a great hitter, server, AND receiver 😭 he’s genuinely just so good at volleyball and i love it!! 2. hinata - i love this kid so much, this was his season 100%!! i think his love and obsession for volleyball is such an accurate portrayal of people whose passion pushes them to be the best. i also love how we see his love for volleyball affect literally everyone on the court with him and increase the tenacity and level of play all around. he’s such a special athlete and person. 3. such a toss up but it’s gotta be daichi or noya. daichi is such a great captain and he always knows what to say to his team which is so difficult. and noya is a genius just like kags, and i would say he’s close behind kags in terms of ability. i also usually like loud and funny characters that are just a little bit dumb (as seen throughout this list LOL) i’m gonna miss these reactions every week SO BAD cus it was so nice seeing you guys enjoy this show as much as i did 🥹

2024-02-24 07:50:46 +0000 UTCLove how this match ends with Hinata and Kageyama's block against their own quick attack by the twins. They lost to Seijou in the exact same way, and that moment just came full circle in S4. The whole Karasuno "evolution/development" since S1 is so rewarding as we saw throughout the season. During my first watch of this series, I remember thinking that Hinata was really lacking skillsets as a player post S3. After finishing S4, I thought Hinata's writing was perfectly written. Who would have thought that the training program that he snuck into earlier in the season would have made him the amazing player that he is now, and he wasn't even directly involved in any of the practice games there. While S3 is still my favorite, the peaks of S4 are almost on par with my favorite S3 episodes. Every player had their awesome moments, but Hinata's moments were my favorite. I will never forget that scene where he made the perfect receive 👌 Now we wait for the movie! Likely a 6-month wait (common with anime movies)

I'm so thrilled you're caught up and so sad I don't have more hq reactions to look forward to every week now xD but your episode analysis and hype for the show has been so healing thank you sm for reacting!!! I rewatch haikyuu every couple of months (I don't think I've ever really stopped rewatching since 2020) but its always nicer to watch along with someone else and hear other's POVs. also yeah kinda surprised for Ange's top 3!! but also it makes sense lol. My top 3 would have to be: Kageyama, Hinata, Atsumu. their order can switch up at a moment's notice lol but it's honestly so hard to choose with a huge cast of incredibly fleshed out characters and opponents.

He has a wide spectrum of seeing things positively. 2. Kageyama. Really highlighted Hinata’s plot but Kageyama was a very strong willed character and tho not obvious he was humble. 3. Yachi. Eversince that time she helped them study and very much so when she made those posters ugh she went up there! Rival team top 3 1. OIKAWA my favorite. Without him I guess there would be a less exciting Kageyama dynamics. He made a standard in setting for me and being a captain in terms of bringing the best of his teams. 2. Yahaba because of his tenacity and his support to his senpais he was not afraid to beat the mad dog to his senses. Also the cheers on Karasuno this season. Who could beat that? 3. Difficult to choose among Bokuto, Atsumu and Futakuchi. I love Date Tech and their comedy cause of the new captain. And these three had this tremendous competitve spirit that made the show more exciting. I would go for Bokuto cause maybe bias in terms of mentoring Hinata and helping Tsukki alone.

This version you watched was actually the remastered, mostly fixed Blu-Ray version. Watching it live was... a struggle. Season 3 had much better art/animation. The movie previews so far has really encourage me on that front though.

2024-02-23 00:09:14 +0000 UTCThe other moment they cut short was at the end of episode 23, where Hinata kicks the ball over after Kageyama wasn't able to set the ball properly. Hinata says to Kageyama "Why would I complain, gimme the next one too!" After that (in the anime) Atsumu thinks "I'm moved Shoyo-kun." In the manga there is a little more to Atumus thoughts ""Give me the next one too!" It doesn’t matter if it's short or if it's low. He doesn't care if it's too close to the net either. If his setter gave his all putting that ball up…he'll take it everytime. I think I'm actually moved Shoyo-kun." That's everything Atsumu wants in a hitter, he will give it his all and in turn wants the same from his hitters. That's why in episode 25 Atsumu acknowledges Hinata, telling him that he will set for him one day (which can only happen in college or even the pros, believing Hinata will make it there). I just love evrything about it. Everything I'm saying in comparing the anime and manga are literally just nitpicks(and to give you guys a little more context), I really love the anime so much. And the moment when Hinata slows down the pace of the game and letting his teammates breathe again by bumping the ball really high…I was right there along with Suga crying😭😆 Simply amazing.

The first one being Tanakas line shot. In the anime Tanaka thinks:"That wasn't him trying to make me feel better…all this trust that he's put in me, I'm going to see it through!" Which is still great! But in the manga he thinks: "Yeah no way was that just plain old encouragement. That was a threat. He was saying: Show them why I have faith in you!" And then he makes the amazing line shot. Kageyama was literally threatening him to make it, but his set gave Tanaka all the choices to decide for himself what shot he wanted to take. Hence the title "the serene king". The next chapter is actually called "The threat of trust", examples of that: Tanakas line shot of course, then the set to Asahi where he thinks "I'm jelaous of the first and second years who will keep hitting his sets, but I also feel sorry for them" before he makes the amazing spike where he shifts his timing to hit, we have Tsukishima funneling the ball to Hinata to receive it and thinking "You better be there" which he is, and of course Hinata jumping up ready to hit the ball that is about to go over the net, forcing Kageyama to get up there and set it for him. Great moments all of them.

I know Blue Lock is the next show but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Run with the Wind. It has great character building and a lot of emotional pay-offs. The animation style could be seen as a negative, but I think it works for the anime and you get used to it once the high-octane moments happen. It might not be popularly received on YouTube. But I highly recommend it for a Patreon exclusive. It's only a 11-episode completed series.

I love all of the new character introductions in it and it has my favorite OPs/Endings. the rematch with Seijoh is peak and it has my favorite training arc in the beginning. that also ties in with my favorite rival in Oikawa :) my favorite three characters are 1) Hinata 2) Tsukki 3) Asahi but there is no wrong answer with this show, I think it’s as close to perfection as you can get ❤️

Kags and Atsuma even said the same thing on the last play of the game. Remember when Hinata got blocked on the quick S1... Same for S4 when Hinata did the blocking on the quick.

2024-02-22 20:57:22 +0000 UTCSorry to double post but fave characters have always been 1. Nishinoya, 2. Kenma, 3. (after manga ending) Kageyama. At this point of the anime no 3. would be Kita. Nishinoya is number 1 for personality because I personally see he is the epitome of facing your fears and overcoming them, he is the true aspiration for how one should live life in my opinion, Kenma is one of the rare characters in the series that seem out of place, from his introduction in season 1 to season 4 in the anime he feels so real. I even know a friend of mine who was just like him. Kags because well he is a troubled individual that again is different to everyone else in this series. I just love the time Furudate gives to all these characters

Even with the brackets shown I personally thought there was no way they could beat second seed in the nationals. I was convinced that Furudate will stick to his realism and show Karasuno lose to an amazing team but what took me for a shock was seeing Furudate take me through a believable narrative as to how Karasuno could win. Every starting player had their super saiyan moment this game and I can say that in the manga no matter what happened afterwards this was my favourite arc. I still love Shiratorizawa match in the anime more but looking forward to the Nekoma game in the movie, trailers and first impressions make me believe this will be the best animated game. Thanks for your reactions, I've already said why I love you both but keep up the good work!

There's a whole lot I want to say but don't really know how to articulate it all so I'll just share my Haikyuu challenge results. I've dropped from 179lbs to 170.3 and as far as working out goes pretty much all my weight maxes have gone up by about 50lbs across the board which I'm proud of. I also actually started running on treadmill with incline literally just cause ya recommended it haha and that's a new part of my workout routine/warmup :D

I love how in episode 24 Tsukki said "Speed is not invincible. They knew that a little better than anyone else" when referring to Hinata/Kageyama blocking the last point! The spike that Hinata/Kageyama blocked was their own quick attack emulated by the Miya twins. In season 1 we lost with our quick attack. In season 2, we refined our quick attack while recognizing it's weakness (quick attack is not invincible 😭 ). In season 4 Hinata/Kageyma was able to essentially block their own quick attack because of their growth and understanding of their own flaws! The writing in Haikyuu is as poetic as Takeda sensei's speeches 😂

But that final rally was tsuki's doing. through all 3 sets, he played robotic, his serve was only a pass, his block was all cold and calculated. And then, when everybody had already let all their guards down against him, on the last serve, he just changes it and trips aran and send the ball back. which makes everybody run, karasuno wanted to nail them for the mistake, and inarizaki rushing in to cover and block and it keeps escalating like a mf.

I do think it's funny how most people's favorite 3 are either ONLY Karasuno members, or none/only 1 from Karasuno and the rest other teams! Also my favorite season changes depending on my mood and recency bias/where I am in my re-watch HAHA, so I usually just talk about favorite moments vs ranking the seasons - that's my little cheat hehe

I dont think i can come up with better example for how important memories are than to say what they did. It means they want Kita to remember then for so long that he grow old and has kids and his kids have kids and still after all that he keeps the twins in memories. its so wholesome i cant hold my tears back. And also the insane amount of respect Atsumu gave to hinata in just two sentences. "one day i will definitely be setting to you". seeing how far ahead and how far he can go with his skills, to say that wherever he ends up (however high he goes in carrier) Hinata will be there with him means he trust in hinata's skills and that they will be in same profesional team. But that is not all i read in that sentence. When he said "i am moved shoyo" during the match i think in that moment Atsumu saw a spiker of his dreams. Seeing how much effort he puts in his sets and only thing that triggers him is when spikers underperforms after he pulls out great set (for example his fight with his brother in the flashback) seeing someone like Hinata and seeing him in action is probably exactly the type of spiker Atsumu wants on his team. But that is just first sentence that focus on distant future. Atsumu also says "but before that i will destroy you in inter-high". that to me shows Atsumu's trust into karasuno as well, stating that "yeah, karasuno will definitely get to nationals next year again and we will have a match next year too", because in order to destroy karasuno next year, karasuno need again to win against everyone in miyagi prefecture, including sejoh, date tech and shiratorizawa again and Atsumu shows no doubt at all in that moment that they will definitely do that.

It’s a full circle moment about speed attack not being invincible. Also tsuki diving for a ball, you would never have seen that in season 1/2… season 3, perhaps 😂

2024-02-22 16:19:03 +0000 UTCThat last point and kag's&hinata's block is my favorite moment in the whole show because it brings together so many things and shows so much payoff and contrast and i cant find words to describe how awesome that scene is but i sure can try. Firstly its important to point out how wholesome it is that it was those two, after such rivarly shown in prior episode where kageyama still competes with hinata and all that, who scored winning point. its poethic, its beautiful, i dont know what else to say about it. That being said, reason for why it HAD to be those two is even more mindblowing. Reason why twins had such highlighting moment for their attack is because it is their first time "minus tempo back attack". Going back to season 1, karasuno vs seijoh, Kageyama and hinata try THEIRS first time "minus tempo back attack" and oikawa reads and block them thus making karasuno the point. What Tsukishima was talking about how in that "0.01s" battle these two were only one not phased and were only one prepared for what comes next. that is because out of everyone in karasuno these too took the loss in season 1 the hardest and it was on their mind the most. I can only imagine how many times both hinata and kageyama played that scenario in their heads so much that its carved in their memory. Seeing twins setup for minus tempo back attack we can also see everyone in karasuno noticing whats gonna happen but couldnt react because as tsukki says that all happens in 0.01 seconds, it was only the two people who saw that scene over and over in their minds who knew what to do without thinking. TLDR: Kageyama and Hinata finally got the payoff for the lesson they learned from defeat in season 1. They defeated inarizaki the exact same way seijoh defeated them. And if that is not amazing and/or mindblowing enough, i would also like to point out the contrast between that point and inarizaki's banner. "we don't need memories". Twins kept using new things as their weapon and this last point was no different. Throughout whole match inarizaki was proving what they mean by "we dont need memories" and that last point they also tried something brand new because inarizaki's angle is to keep looking forward and dont care about past. Their whole thing is to discard the past and focus on the future and that is what gives them the strength to move forward and keep winning. Yet in that last point only reason why karasuno won is because of the dreaded memory carved in their brains and experience they gained in season 1. Essentially karasuno won the match thanks to memories which is completely contradictory to inarizaki's belief and thats just beautiful writing. In one point they managed to give two main characters closure to nightmare that happened in season 1 and in same time defeat the very concept of inarizaki's banner. Haikyuu is indeed and probably will forever stand strong as my no.1 favorite anime because its simply perfection and i cant wait for movies :D Thank you C&E for reactions and taking this journey and i am glad i was able to see it <3

2024-02-22 16:05:18 +0000 UTCSince you guys missed all the banners in the anime, which I believe is a very crucial part of the show as a whole, I've made a list of each team and its banner and how it describes them and their philosophies. Hope this helps shed some new light on your thought process: Inarizaki: We don't need the memories (思い出なんかいらん, Omoide nanka iran) Voted by the majority and rightly so as the best banner in the series. It just radiates raw competitiveness and tells the readers that Inarizaki aim for the very top and they aim to win. second place or third place is not good enough for them. This was really highlighted by Atsumu's dialogue in the last episode where he says "what has happened yesterday has already happened. we don't need to dwell on the memories because they have already become the muscles of today". In short focus on what's ahead rather then dwell on what's behind. Aoba Johsai/seijoh: Rule the court (コートを制す, Ko-to wo seisu) The symbolism of Oikawa being the great king and the motto saying "ruling" is just self explanatory, Although it aligns more with Oikawa than seijoh as a whole, it perfectly captures the fact that Seijoh is a well rounded team and focuses on everything from receiving to spiking to setting. This was also mentioned by coach Ukai at the start of season 3 when he describes Seijoh as the most complete team in the prefecture. Shiratorizawa: Irresistible Force (獅子奮迅, Shishi funjin) This Banner perfectly encapsulates shiratorizawa and how they strengthen each player's strong points ultimately in return to support their ace, But of course it mainly shows itself in the form of the goat Ushijima Wakatoshi, arguably the best spiker in japan, as you have seen in season 3 the man was like a force of nature , I mean scoring almost half the points in a final is crazy sheeesh. He was strong almost like an irresistible force both physically and mentally. the scene with him looming over karasuno best explains it. Nekoma: Connect (繋げ, Tsunage) connect. Y'all already know this, Nekoma is all about teamwork. it simply is asking them to connect with each others play to get it going. for that to happen, planning must be done and also you must ( i think) have the trust that your teammate would have your back. I believe moments with kenma in nekoma matches best convey the meaning. Date Tech: Iron Wall of Date (伊達の鉄壁, Date no teppeki) This one is literally just the description of Dateko's play style. Ukai described them as having the best defence in the perfecture at the start of season 2. Karasuno: Fly (飛べ, Tobe) Crows and fly, really simple and powerful especially when you the MC Hinata jumping as though he was flying. Karasuno also hosted the little giant in the past which just resonates more with the meaning of the banner. Not tall, can't jump high enough, literally just fly. It could also be interpreted as flying towards new things and trying new things, not getting complacent, to push your boundaries. Which is basically what karasuno's play style is. These were the ones I could best explain. every one please feel free to share about other banners.

Now here he is with not only a clean receive, but with the foresight to make it high so that his team can catch their breath and reset properly. That's the true growth of Hinata, how he's not just in love with spiking, he's in love with volleyball.

2024-02-22 15:45:42 +0000 UTCYeah season 4 is my favourite, with season 3 being a pretty close second. Had they adapted season 4 a little better, the gap would be wider. I just love season 4 as a complete package and how everything ties to together so well. Also, the scene of the 2 ukai’s talking at the end was actually placed much earlier in the manga iirc. The conversation took place in a flashback to right after karasuno beat shiratorizawa, and the flashback happened right before the team meeting for inarizaki match in episode 13. I think the anime directors moved it here because in the original, Ukai says that they’ll face nekoma in the 3rd round if they both win the first 2 rounds. And I think mentioning that so early, gives the audience a hint they karasuno will probably win the first 2 rounds like you guys said. So they actually held off on revealing that for longer in the anime compared to the manga

In the manga it was explained as since Hinata spent most of his early volleyball days in middle school and stuff without a proper setter, he's really grateful for any toss he gets and doesn't care about how good the toss was :p

It still feels like just yesterday when I stumbled upon your reaction to Haikyuu S1EP1 on YouTube. I still remember being blown away by Ange’s cover of the OP (did not expect it at all; still so cool that you do that for shows) and being immediately drawn to your duo’s positive/chill energy haha. Thank you for watching and loving this series. This show got me through a very dark time in my life, so it’s very near and dear to my heart (I consider it my life series). 2024-02-22 14:59:15 +0000 UTC1 Hinata. He showed tremendous growth throughout the season and I feel like he enjoys the game just a little bit more than a lot of other characters 2 Kageyama. He's just unrelenting in improving he's own and he's teams condition and overall standing, all whilst accommodating Hinata in all efforts to break the games barriers. 3 Daichi is just a great captain keeping everyone in line and motivated, you can always count on him when necessary, and he's just got this presence about him that makes the opposing team members notice him. Rival Character, Bokuto!! I know we haven't seen to much of him, but I just like his energy, and when he has his little tantrums its always fun to see, and when he eventually regains his composure, its kinda rewarding. Anyways, thanks for all the reactions, was a great journey. Now that Haikyuu is sadly almost over, we can focus on HxH ;)

All three are not what you would call the best at what they are doing but how they are written to despite that be the best version of themselves makes me really love them. My favourite rival character is Kuroo for his passionate yet wise mindset. In fact at the end of the day I just like them because I like them and because they are them, I tried to rationalise it but it’s just as simple as that.

I’d probably guess August at the earliest, but I think it’d take longer. Wouldn’t mind waiting, but it may be a long wait. Plus the movie won’t wrap it all up, because we still have the second movie coming eventually

So many amazing build ups, callbacks, and pay offs. Accompanied with the amazing OST that brings the hype and emotion into those peak moments. hopefully you get a chance to react to My Hero Academia. It also has a large cast of quirky characters. And same OST producer as Haikyuu. The OST in MHA really make those peak moments in the show hype and emotional

The full circle moments are brilliant!

The kanji for 'trust' can also be read as 'threat' so another interpretation of the words is that kageyamas refusal could be a threat. So Tanaka's dialogue could be interpreted something like this as well; That wasn't him trying to cheer me up. That was almost a threat, he was telling me "go and show to them why I have faith in you". The animators did pay a bit of homage to this interpretation I think by animating kageyamas face after the set quite serious, almost threatening, like the 'king' he is.

But Kita’s words in episode 23 changed the complexion a bit when he stated that he doesn’t like the motto because it seems to disregard the importance of the past. He firmly believes that we are the result of everything before us. It’s a perspective of maturity that Atsumu doesn’t yet consciously acknowledge. This helps incorporate a new thematic message and a new spin on the banner motto. It isn’t about being reckless and forgetting the past, it’s about giving it your all using the experiences learned from the past that become ingrained in your body. And this concept is particularly relevant in the final point of this match as an encapsulation of who Atsumu is. They lost primarly because he got caught up in the fun and expression of the Monster's ball, and came up against the block of two who had tried that in the past, failed in the exact same manner (vs Seijoh in season 1), and learned from their mistake through not forgetting that memory which opened the path of their growth. And though the pain of defeat can be difficult to endure, there’s always another chance to go again and experience it once more. And so with this approach, this motto turns from rash to incredibly wise and balanced. And one of the most beautiful things about Haikyuu!! is that these little tidbits of life advice that are presented to us through the characters can be used in any walk of life, in any context.

If you do make the video tho, you should totally include a section of "building the perfect team(u can chose the criteria for it)" from characters outside of Karasuno ofc coz otherwise it would be just karasuno players xD but yeah the build ur team segments usually go hard xD
