I think it's more that he holds himself to a incredibly high standard. Could have something to do with Ging's abandonment too. And sometimes Gon prioritizes reaching this unattainable standard over all else. He always feels behind, due in part to his young age. Great decision to make the protagonist younger than the usual 16 year old MC.

He doesn't view things like a normal person would, if lying cheating and murdering amuses him, he would want to see you do more of it, even show him how you do it. He would protect you against the "good guys" just for this purpose. Gon has been this way since the start, watch how he evolves. Meanwhile Killua started as a heartless assassin who would literally pull your beating heart from your chest and slowly watch you die.

2024-02-10 07:43:35 +0000 UTCI think Gon's fight with the bomber and the dodgeball match with Razor are really good examples of why he's a good MC but also not necessarily a very likeable one. He's interesting but so, so frustrating. Makes for a good story though. I think Gon's selfishness has an interesting intersection with Killua too. Killua's so supportive of him and doesn't care if he personally gets hurt so long as Gon is happy; Gon cares a lot about him but Gon's desires will always take priority over anything. At least, that's how it's been so far in these episodes. Their friendship is so sweet but also has a shade of toxic codependency. Gon really needs more people who are willing to call him out for some of the things he does imo.

2024-02-10 01:26:19 +0000 UTCJust to give examples to when goku was selfish btw not only to debunk that he wasn’t selfish but to show that he is the most selfish mc of all time: -didn’t take the heart medicine which future trunks brought him right away for wtv reason -he caused the tournament of power. It's a direct result of Goku's selfishness in wanting to fight strong guys. Entire universes erased out of existence cause Goku wants to punch harder/faster. -Giving Cell a sensu to allow him to push Gohan to the breaking point, without knowing Gohan’s true motivation for fighting to protect instead of the thrill of battle. This could have had drastic emotional trauma for Gohan, he eventually even stopped fighting lmao -always letting his opponents power up when he can defeat them earlier -Choosing to stay dead and leaving Chi-Chi to raise his second child all by herself. Also not communicating with any of his friends or family during those 7 years even though he could have literally any time he wanted. -Letting Vegeta live not because he thought Vegeta could be redeemed, but purely so he could fight him again. Vegeta's redemption was more of a happy accident on Goku's part. I’m pretty sure there is more and this is just from the top of my head, I’m sure if I search online there will be more

2024-02-09 23:18:29 +0000 UTCI feel like we have seen gon be more selfless than selfish in the show up until now, rmb when leorio got stuck in the island with the snakes and gon literally risked his life to save everyone there even tho all the snakes were biting him. I completely disagree that “goku is not selfish and that he does everything for everyone else and gon does everything for himself” didn’t goku had so many chances to end opponents when the fate of the earth was on the line in a easier way and he could save everyone but just because he wanted to beat the opponents by winning fairly that he would do it his own way which ended up killing people and everyone on earth, but they were only able to come back because of shenron’s dragon balls. (Also giving cell a senzu bean before fighting gohan🤦🏽♂️ and countless examples) I feel like we are doing revisionist history with goku and gon, I think gon is more selfless and goku is 100% more selfish.

2024-02-09 22:37:45 +0000 UTCI feel like we are super critical of gon, I have a hard time calling gon who is 12 years old, selfish, especially because we have seen him do so many selfless things and risking his life and standing up for people when he didn’t need to. I think it’s important to understand gon’s character. He might do selfish things but he is in no way a selfish person, he is such a compelling character because he is so pure of a character and also a selfless character for most of the time.

I understand friends make sacrifices *for** each other, but they arent suppose to sacrifice each other. Gon's desire to win, along with his pride, just seems like he valued the dodgeball game over his friends hands. Then immedietly after, hes tryna fight again with no regard for Killua's injuries... THAT HE CAUSED. Lord....
