You guys seem to have it out for Ging like he's some evil man lol. He's just a deadbeat dad who is *SELFISH* and wants to do what he wants to do. I haven't read the manga but to me, the reason Ging puts Gon through these trials is because he likely assumes his kid has the same love and passion for nen and being a Hunter and adventure that HE has himself.

2024-02-09 00:05:30 +0000 UTCDon’t know why anyone would prefer Gon just stick to the plan and we get three short pretty one-sided fights instead of one of the most technical fights in the entire series. The Gon vs Bomber fight was a fantastic fight in an otherwise underwhelming and technical but lacking in thematic and emotional depth arc. That fight and the dodgeball game are the only highlights. Also, Gon is selfish…Killua is an assassin that has literally murdered innocent people before. The guy has zero moral high ground and he knows it. That scene between Killua and Goreinu felt like Togashi directly spelling out to the audience what protagonist centered morality is.

The moment Gon lost his hand and then the Phantom Troupe soundtrack started playing while Gon was smiling and Genthru was thinking that he's totally insane. Gives me chills all the time. The Killua fight is another example of how fights in HxH are so smart. I also love the soundtrack that was playing during that fight. I don't know why I've never thought of that, but as we've seen so far, especially in this last episode, I think I can agree with you on that. There are definitely some DB inspiration and easter eggs in HxH here and there. Actually, in episode 72, when Tsezguerra's teammate revealed his radar power, it looked so much like a Dragon Radar so I was surprised that Ange didn't catch that it might be a DB reference lol.
